The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made another arrest in the Chhattisgarh liquor scam. ED’s Raipur zonal team has arrested IAS officer Niranjan Das on Friday (December 19, 2025). After this, he was presented in the PMLA special court of the capital Raipur, where the court approved ED custody for three days.

ED had started this investigation on the basis of FIR registered by ACB/EOW Raipur. Investigation by police and investigative agencies revealed that the Chhattisgarh liquor scam caused huge loss to the state government. According to the investigation, this scam generated illegal earnings of more than Rs 2,500 crore, which was distributed to different people.

What was revealed in the agency’s investigation?

ED investigation also revealed that Niranjan Das received illegal money of about Rs 18 crore. Digital evidence, seized documents and written statements have made it clear that he was an active part of the liquor syndicate. The investigating agency says that their role in carrying out the scam was not limited to mere information, rather they were directly misusing the system.

A big revelation in the investigation was that Niranjan Das was deliberately given the additional charge of Excise Commissioner and Secretary of the Excise Department, so that the liquor scam could be run easily. The allegation is that he ignored his legal responsibilities and allowed open plunder of government revenue.

In return he used to get an amount of Rs 50 lakh every month. According to the ED, he used to instruct field officers to increase the sale of raw and unaccounted illicit liquor in their respective areas.

Role of IAS officer in illegal earning and money laundering

ED says that the role of Niranjan Das was not limited only to the original crime, but he also played an important role in laundering illegal earnings. It was because of him that such huge plunder of the state’s resources became possible.

Many accused arrested in the case

Niranjan Das is not the only accused in this case. ED has earlier arrested Anil Tuteja (former IAS), Arvind Singh, Trilok Singh Dhillon, Anwar Dhebar, Arun Pati Tripathi (ITS), Kawasi Lakhma (then Excise Minister and MLA), Chaitanya Baghel (son of former Chief Minister) and Soumya Chaurasia. ED has made it clear that the investigation is still going on and more big names related to this scam may come to light in the coming days.

Five people died in a horrific road accident on Sunday (07 December) in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. Four men and a 17-year-old boy lost their lives in a collision between a car and a truck. Police gave this information. Police said that the accident took place in the early hours near Patratoli village of Duldula police station area when the people in the car were returning to their native place Khatanga after watching an ‘orchestra show’ at a fair near Manora.

Duldula police station in-charge KK Sahu said, “The head-on collision between the car and the truck was so strong that the car was completely damaged. All five people in the car died on the spot.” After the incident, some villagers reached the spot and immediately informed the police about the accident.

Earlier in the month of October, five people were killed and five others were seriously injured in a horrific road accident in Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh. The case is from Manpur village of Khairagarh Chuikhadan Gandai. There is an electrician named Officer Khan here. A few days before August 15, a gift packed box reached the officer Khan’s shop. This gift had his name and fake logo of India Post.

When the courier came, the officer Khan’s shop was closed. On August 15, when he returned to his shop, he opened the gift. He found that the speakers kept in the box were usually weighing, it was a little more weight than that.

Officer Khan called the police on suspicion
In such a situation, officer Khan got suspicious and immediately called the Gandai police. Police reached the spot as soon as the information was received. After initial investigation, the police called the Bomb Detection and Disposal Team (BDDS), fearing the bomb.

The BDDS team recovered the hidden bomb in the speaker. After this, the police reached the main accused while investigating the evidence.

Bomb was made by watching videos from internet
The name of the main accused is Vijay Verma. The police has seized his phone. When the search history of the phone was investigated, the police found that he had searched the way of making the bomb and the way not to be caught on the Internet. With the help of online videos and tutorials, he prepared explosives.

This explosive had Gelatin’s stick which could be torn anytime. Vijay Verma had designed him in such a way that he would get electricity and he would get a blast as soon as he was put in the plug.

Accused Vijay chased officer Khan’s wife
When Vijay Verma was asked in the intention behind this conspiracy, he told that he loved the wife of officer Khan. Wife and accused used to study in the same school in childhood and he wanted him since then.

It was also revealed that before the marriage of the woman, the accused Vijay used to follow her. In such a situation, the woman told her husband officer Khan everything. She told her husband that Vijay follows her and he can also harm the family.

Vijay Verma’s companions also under police arrested
The people who have caught Vijay Verma are 25 -year -old Parmeshwar Verma, 22 -year -old Gopal Varma, 38 -year -old Dilip, and 19 -year -old Gopal Khelwar and Khilesh Verma. Police has also found explosives and other evidence from all of them.

Anusuiya uikey news: Police have arrested accused Ajay Ramdas alias Ajay Verma in the case of sending fake recommendations in the name of former Governor of Chhattisgarh Anusuiya Uike. This young man, who described himself as ‘Mahamandaleshwar’, was under the scope of police investigation since 2019. On Monday, Chhindwara police arrested him and handed him over to the Chhattisgarh police.

According to TI Umesh Golani, in the year 2019, the then Governor Anusuiya Uike lodged a complaint that Ajay had sent fake letters to the officials and leaders by misusing his official letter pad. The matter was under investigation since the complaint.

In this case, former Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uike said that without my knowledge my letter pad was wrongly used. In which a person wrote a letter in the indefinite language, misusing the MLA including the people in the country, including the people in the main position of the country. I was informed by the said people. I had complained about this in Raipur and Bhopal. The police is investigating the case and taking action.
