Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai said that he follows Buddhism, but has not studied any religion in depth. Describing himself as completely secular, he said that he believes in all religions – Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian.

Considered humanity and the Constitution above religion.
Speaking at a program, he told that he got this idea from his father, who was a follower of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Gavai said that whenever the family got information about any Dargah, they used to go there also.

CJI said before leaving the Supreme Court
This speech was given at the farewell ceremony organized by the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA). CJI Gavai is retiring on 23 November and 22 November is his last working day in the Supreme Court.

What I am today is because of the Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar – BR Gavai
CJI Gavai, who comes from the Dalit community, said that his entire journey was possible because of the Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar. He said, ‘Whatever I am today is because of this institution (Supreme Court). A child who studied sitting on the floor in a municipal school could never have imagined that he would reach this far. I always tried to follow the four values of the Constitution – justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

Supreme Court is not just an institution of CJI but of all judges – Gavai
Gavai said that the Supreme Court should not be an individual-centric institution. He said that I never took decisions alone. Every decision was taken with the participation of the full court and all the judges. The Supreme Court is a big institution and judges, lawyers, registry and staff are all equally important in it.

Mention of big decision on calling lawyers by investigating agencies
In the program, SCAORA President Vipin Nair thanked CJI Gavai for taking cognizance of the issue of lawyers being summoned by the investigating agencies.
A major decision has been given on Monday (November 17, 2025) on the matter of banning construction work amid increasing pollution in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). The Supreme Court has rejected the suggestion to stop all construction work in Delhi. The court said that a large number of people will be affected by this. Instead of taking such steps, we have to think about long-term solutions. CAQM takes appropriate steps according to the pollution situation.

The court asked the central government to hold a meeting with the governments of Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan and give suggestions on long-term solutions to deal with the air pollution crisis, so that a permanent solution to this problem can be found. For this the court has given one day’s time to the government. In the hearing to be held on Wednesday (November 19, 2025), the court also sought an affidavit regarding whether the equipment being used to monitor pollution in Delhi is capable of this.

Court said that balance has to be struck between environmental concerns and development

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai on Monday (November 17, 2025) said that the court is not in favor of issuing strict directions to curb the rapidly increasing pollution levels in Delhi, as the court cannot take the place of experts. The court said that it is necessary to strike a balance between environmental concerns and development.

Central government will have to take the lead – Supreme Court

While hearing the case, the Supreme Court has reiterated that it cannot take the responsibility of Delhi’s pollution management every year and the basic responsibility in this matter lies with the Central Government. The court said that the livelihood of millions of families depends on construction and all related sectors, hence imposing a blanket ban can have serious social and economic consequences.

The Supreme Court is the largest court in the country and its head i.e. the Chief Justice of India is considered to be the highest post in the judiciary. Not only does he have full responsibility for the administrative and judicial functioning of the court, but this post is so influential that its dignity is maintained even by the President and Prime Minister of the country. But have you ever thought that if the most powerful judge of the country is found guilty in a criminal case, can the police arrest him? In such a situation, let us tell you today what is the power of the CJI and can the police arrest the CJI also?

What is the power of CJI?

The Chief Justice of India has got very important powers under the Constitution. He is responsible for deciding the functioning of the Supreme Court and deciding which case will go to which bench. Apart from this, the CJI also plays an important role in the appointment process of judges. Without the opinion and signature of the CJI, the appointment of new judges in the Supreme Court or the High Court is not possible. The CJI also constitutes constitutional benches and decides which cases should be heard immediately and which cases should be heard later. Apart from this, the Chief Justice of India sits in a bench of three judges, due to which the impact of his decisions is more than that of other benches.

Can CJI or any judge be arrested?

According to the law of the Indian Constitution, a judge can be arrested, but not like an ordinary citizen. In fact, to maintain the dignity and independence of the judiciary in India, special provisions and procedures have been made for the arrest of judges. In India, judges have been given legal protection, so that they can deliver justice without any pressure or fear. But if a judge misuses his powers or is found involved in any criminal activity, the law applies to him in the same way. Just like it happens to any other citizen. Just its process is different.

Which laws protect the judge?

Judicial Officers Protection Act, 1850- This law protects those judges who administer justice impartially.

The Judges (Protection) Act, 1985- This Act gives extra protection to judges in civil and criminal cases.

CrPC Section 77- If a judge does any work in his judicial capacity and impartially, then it will not be considered a crime.

CrPC 345- Insulting a judge or disrupting court proceedings is considered a crime.

The Judges Inquiry Act, 1968- This Act prescribes the procedure for disciplinary proceedings and investigation against judges of the Supreme Court and High Court.

An attempt was made to throw the shoe over the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the country, BR Gawai. In the court, a lawyer created a ruckus, allegedly throwing a shoe over the judge, committing a ruckus. Other lawyers present there have confirmed this. Meanwhile, after this incident, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has given his response by tweeting. He has said that, by going into the hands of some people, the shoe also feels insulted himself. At present, his tweet is being discussed fiercely.

Akhilesh Yadav made this tweet

The SP chief wrote in his tweet, such rude people who insult the PDA society are actually due to their arrogance and ego. His dominated thinking gives rise to hatred, which is as much for the person sitting in the highest judicial post of the country, as much as the weakest last person of the society. Such people suffer from domination disease. Akhilesh wrote, that’s why we say, PDA means ‘victims, sad, humiliated’. PDA has been forgiving such people for 5000 years of generosity and well -being of society, but after insult to this extent, the PDA society will not bear any more.

Akhilesh attacked BJP

Akhilesh Yadav, as an attacker on the BJP, wrote that, the BJP and its Sanghi-parties are in the final stages of their power, because their corrupt electoral conspiracy has been busted, they will never win now. That is why they are doing such some things desperate.

Further, he told in the tweet, if the BJP goes this time, he will never come again. When 90% of the population has woken up for its rights, then 10% Gurur and the throne will not last. In the socio-political history of India, this period is of the struggle for ‘insults versus honors’. The PDA will win this final struggle of its self -respect and self -respect.

After the completion of the legal process of many years, a grand temple of Lord Shri Ram is being constructed in Ayodhya, but former Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. A new debate has started with Chandrachud’s comments. In fact, the former CJI made a statement during an interview that the construction of the Babri Masjid was originally impure. He had said that the place where there is already a mosque, then it was impure to build a mosque there. A new controversy has started since his statement.

Professor G.R. regarding this statement of former Chief Justice. Mohan Gopal retaliated and has said to file a chicken against the decision taken by the Ram temple. He has said that curative petition can be filed only on the basis of Chandrachud’s statement.

What did Professor G. Mohan gopal,

Professor G. Mohan Gopal said that in the statement of DY Chandrachud, that thing has been said, which was not said in the court’s decision. In such a situation, a reconsideration petition can be filed on the basis of his argument. In 2019, a constitutional bench of five judges of the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Ram temple. In that bench, Tatkali Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice S.A. Bobde, Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Abdul Nazir were included.

What did the Supreme Court say in the verdict,

The Supreme Court had said in its judgment that the Muslim side has failed to prove that they have had a uninterrupted ownership at the Babri Masjid place. With this, the Supreme Court ruled with a majority on the Ram temple case, after which the construction of the temple has now been completed.

My statement is being seen incorrectly- Chandrachud

However, after a dispute over his statement, former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has also given cleanliness. He said that his statement has been presented incorrectly. He said that the decision on Ram temple was given on the basis of evidence and legal principles and not on the basis of faith.

It is also read: ‘What should have been done, it is done’, actor Vijay came out for the first time after the stampede; Know what to say?

Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gawai said on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) that his decision on bulldozer action has given him a lot of satisfaction as it deal with human problems. Supreme Court Justice Gawai and Justice K.V. Vishwanathan’s bench had compared Bulldozer Justice to an chaotic situation on November 13, 2024 and set guidelines for the country.

At a reception ceremony organized by an academic group of lawyers of the Supreme Court lawyers on Friday (September 19, 2025), CJI Gavai said that he had the opportunity to share his back with Justice Vishwanathan for about six months.

He said, ‘I think the decision related to bulldozers is one of the decisions that gave us excessive satisfaction. At the core of this decision, there were human problems and problems faced by humans. The family was being harassed only because its members are either criminals or perceived criminals.

CJI BR Gawai appreciated former Chief Justice

Chief Justice BR Gavai said, ‘Though the credit goes to him, but the equal credit for writing this decision should also be known to Justice Vishwanathan. The tenure of CJI does not affect justice administration.

The CJI said, ‘I do not think the tenure of the Chief Justice has a direct connection with the efficiency of the administration. We have been the best Chief Justice like Justice Lalit and Justice Sanjeev Khanna for two and a half months, who have left their mark and are known for their contribution to justice and (justice) administration. He made his best attempt to improve the betterment of justice and improve the infrastructure of the judiciary across the country.

He said, “I have tried every moment to improve the betterment of justice administration and to improve the judicial infrastructure across the country and ensure that appointments in High Courts should quickly reach the logical conclusion.”

Efforts made to give good representation to young lawyers- CJI

According to the CJI, an attempt has been made to give good representation to the young lawyers who are advocating in the Supreme Court in the last few years. He said, “We are confident that the rich experience he gets in the Supreme Court actually helps to bring efficiency or increase it at the high court level.”

Chandrashekhar Azad, MP from Nagina in Uttar Pradesh and National President of Azad Samaj Party...

Chandrashekhar Azad, MP from Nagina in Uttar Pradesh and National President of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), has written an important demand to the Chief Justice of the country (CJI) Bhushan Ramakrishna Gawai. He has given information about his demand on social media platform X. At the same time, this demand of Nagina MP is being discussed a lot in the political corridors.

Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad has urged that the picture of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the creator of the Indian Constitution and the craftsman of modern India, should be mandated in all the courts, Supreme Court, High Court and Subordinate Courts of the country.

What did Bhima Army Chief say in the letter?

Chandrashekhar Azad said in his letter that Babasaheb gave us the constitution, on which the judiciary stands on the foundation and who gave every citizen the right to equality, freedom and justice. He wrote in his tweet, “In all the courts of India, the creators of the Indian Constitution, the craftsmen of the Indian Constitution, the exploited and the liberator of women, the symbol of knowledge, the Vishwa Ratna Param Pujya Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar ji has written a letter to Chief Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai.”

He said that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar has not only a great scholar of jurisprudence, but has also been a guide to the independence and equal justice system of the judiciary. In such a situation, the judiciary is incomplete without respecting his contribution.

The MP has three main points in the letter –

A picture of Babasaheb Ambedkar should be established in all the courts of India.

This step will be a symbol of fairness, constitutional values and commitment to social justice.

By setting up the picture, the message will be sent to the exploited and disadvantaged class that the court is not only the law but also the conservator of the constitution maker.

Chandrashekhar Azad believes that this step will further strengthen the democratic and constitutional traditions of the country along with increasing the dignity of the judiciary. His letter remains a matter of discussion in social and political circles and it is being considered an important initiative towards social justice in the judicial system.

‘Executive cannot become a judge’
BR Gawai was part of the bench of the Supreme Court, which immediately criticized the ‘bulldozer justice’ and set guidelines for the demolition of the assets for the country. It was said in the judgment that the executive cannot become a judge and cannot declare any accused guilty nor can his house be dropped.

Gawai said, “My decision was criticized by the people of my own community, but I always believe that I should write my decision not according to the wishes or pressure of the people, but on the basis of the understanding of the law and the voice of my conscience.”

Pointing to the speeches made by the former speakers during the honor ceremony, pointing to their historical decisions, CJI Gavai said, “I really are happy that as the patron of the Constitution we could do something to protect the rights of the citizens whose houses were demolished without following legal processes.”
