Kerala Elections 2026: After the election results in many states of the country, the process of government formation has intensified, but the picture is different in every state. Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government for the first time in West Bengal and Subhendu Adhikari will take oath as Chief Minister at 11 am on Saturday.

Whereas in Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Vijay (Vijay Thalapathy) has met the Governor for the third time and staked claim to form the government and he too is going to take oath on Saturday. On the other hand, in Assam, the swearing in of Himanta Biswa Sarma is proposed on May 12, where the BJP alliance has got a clear majority.

What is Kerala’s Kich-Kich?

However, the picture is most complicated in Kerala. The Indian National Congress has won the elections, but no consensus has been reached yet on the name of the Chief Minister. To resolve this issue, party president Mallikarjun Kharge is going to hold a meeting with the MLAs, in which Rahul Gandhi is also likely to attend.

According to sources, most of the MLAs are in favor of KV Venugopal, while the Muslim League, which is part of Congress’s ally United Democratic Front, wants VD Satheesan to be the Chief Minister. While government formation is almost certain in some states, the political equations in states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu are still changing.

Why is the suffering increasing?

The tussle within the Congress regarding the post of Chief Minister in Kerala is coming to the fore. Congress MLA K Neelakantan, elected from Uduma seat, on Friday alleged that his choice for the post of Chief Minister was not recorded in the Legislative Party (CLP) meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram. He has also sent a complaint in this regard to All India Congress Committee observers Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken through email.

The controversy came to light when a report revealed a picture in which supervisor Wasnik was seen holding a list after the CLP meeting. It was told that the names of the MLAs and their choice for the post of Chief Minister were recorded in this list. Many MLAs like Sandeep Warrier, Sajeev Joseph, T.O. Mohanan, Sunny Joseph, Usha Vijayan and T. Siddiqui had written ‘KC’ as their choice, which is being seen as an endorsement of KC Venugopal.

At the same time, “KC+RC” was written in front of the name of I.C. Balakrishnan, which was seen to be linked to the support of Ramesh Chennithala. However, Neelakantan says that he had clearly expressed his choice, but no entry was made against his name in the list, which raises questions.

Meanwhile, in the race for the post of Chief Minister, V.D. Satheesan, K.C. Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala are considered to be the main contenders. The final decision will be taken by the party leadership only, because the legislature party has already passed the resolution and given the right to elect Mallikarjun Kharge as the Chief Minister. Despite the victory of Congress in Kerala, confusion and internal differences regarding the Chief Minister’s face still continue.
