Can Mobile Addiction Affect Children Brain Development: In today’s time, giving mobile phones in the hands of small children has become a common thing. Be it to feed food, keep the child quiet or to take out some time, many parents hand over mobile phones to their children. But now a new study by AIIMS has said that there is a big danger regarding this. Research has revealed that children who are exposed to mobile phones and screens from a very young age may have weak learning ability and may also have an increased risk of problems like autism.

What do experts say?

According to Dr. Shefali Gulati, head of the Pediatric Neurology Department of AIIMS, “Children who watched more screens at the age of one year showed more symptoms of autism by the age of three years.” This effect was more visible in boys, although signs of it were also found in girls.

What are the reasons for this?

Experts say that the brain of small children develops rapidly in the early years. During this time, they need the most to talk to their parents, understand facial expressions and connect with the things around them. But when a child is constantly engrossed in mobile screens, his social and mental development starts getting affected.

According to Dr. Shefali Gulati, it is very important to spend personal time with children. The child learns by seeing the parents’ faces, hearing their voices and understanding their behavior. These things play the most important role in the development of his brain.

A key finding from AIIMS New Delhi research highlights that increased screen time in children under one year of age is associated with a higher risk of autism by the age of three.

The study suggests that greater screen exposure may increase the likelihood of autism-related… pic.twitter.com/U3Ubmhedek

What is autism?

Autism is a condition in which a child’s brain is unable to understand social behavior and language normally. Such children may have trouble socializing with people, communicating and understanding emotions. Some children do the same things again and again, some remain lost in their own world and sometimes they start getting disturbed by loud noises or changes.

What things should not be ignored?

According to experts, if the child does not respond to name calling, looks less in the eyes, is delayed in speaking or avoids playing with others, then it should not be ignored. The situation can be improved by timely investigation and getting proper help.

Attention to children under 18 months

AIIMS experts say that the screen habit of small children should be reduced gradually. Suddenly snatching the mobile can make the child irritable. The most important thing is that it is considered better to keep children below 18 months of age away from screens. Experts believe that for the better mental development of children, it is not the mobile phone but the support of the parents that is most important. The more time the child gets with the real world and family, the better his mental and social development will be.
