China Trade Surplus: Amidst the imposition of high tariffs by America, China has crossed its trade surplus of 1 trillion dollars for the first time in November. According to Customs Department data released on Monday, China’s total exports in November increased by 5.9 percent on an annual basis. In the same month, China’s trade surplus increased to $111.68 billion, which is the highest since June and has also crossed October’s record of $90.7 billion. Due to this, China’s trade surplus went above 1 trillion dollars for the first time in the last 11 months.

According to Jichun Huang, China Economist of Capital Economics, despite the agreement between the US and China on tariffs, there was no significant improvement in China’s shipments to the US. Experts believe that China’s exports will remain similarly strong in the coming year also. After Trump’s election in 2024, China adopted a strategy to expand its exports to diverse markets, including increasing trade with Southeast Asia and the European Union.

How is China’s trade surplus?

This directly benefited Chinese companies, who strengthened their hold in global markets with low tariffs. At the same time, China’s exports to America decreased by 29 percent in November, while exports to European Union increased by 14.8 percent, to Australia by 35.8 percent and to South Asian countries by 8.2 percent.

This report has come at a time when after the meeting of President Trump and President Xi Jinping in South Korea on October 30, there were positive signals regarding the tariff agreement between the two countries.

In August, America’s exports to China declined by 33 percent to $ 47.3 billion, while its imports from the US declined by 16 percent to $ 13.4 billion. At the same time, China’s exports for the European Union increased by 10.4 percent to $ 46.8 billion, while the imports fell slightly to $ 22.8 billion. Overall, the growth of China’s exports between January and February has been the slowest. During this time, only 2.3 percent has increased in it. The export of Rare Earth from China increased to $ 55 million in August, which was $ 41 million in July, but it is 25.6 percent less than this month last year.

In June, China’s steel exports increased by more than 10 percent to 97 lakh tonnes. Export of rare economy from China in June has also increased by 32 percent over the previous month. After the US imposition of heavy tariffs in April, when China also banned the shipment of Rare Earth Magnets, many factories in the US came to light. Then in June, there were many agreements between the two countries for their supply. In June, China exported 7,742.2 metric tonnes of meaning as against 5,864.6 metric tonnes of May. In the first half of 2025, China exported 32,569.2 tonnes of rare meaning, compared to 29,095.2 tonnes during the same time.
