Amidst tense relations, China has given a good advice to Japan. It has been cautioned to move forward after learning the lessons from the recent leakage of radioactive material from the site of the Fujin nuclear reactor in Fukui Prefecture. Along with this, China has also emphasized on its monitoring. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, quoting a report, said that a leak incident has occurred in Japan due to which there is a possibility that ‘many people may be exposed to radiation.’

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said these things in a press conference on Wednesday (December 24, 2025). He said that several incidents related to the safety of nuclear facilities in Japan have raised concerns for some time, including fraud in quality inspection data for radiation detectors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and an incident of overflow of used fuel pool cooling water at a reprocessing plant in Rokkasho village, Aomori Prefecture.

He was asked a question about the leak of water containing radioactive materials at the Fugen nuclear reactor in Tsuruga city of Fukui Prefecture, Japan on December 23. Decommissioning work is going on at this plant. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, Japan’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority has said that the concentration of radioactive materials in the leaked water is believed to be very high, and many people may have been exposed to radiation.

“Despite various problems such as aging nuclear facilities, disorganized management and inadequate regulation, Japan still decided to restart the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant,” Lin said. Here earlier there had been an incident of overflow of used fuel pool cooling water, after which the people of Japan were very angry and protested.

Lin said China urges Japan to fully learn the lessons of the Fukushima nuclear accident, honestly fulfill its nuclear safety responsibilities, promptly provide information and take effective measures, properly handle the decommissioning and disposal of radioactive waste of nuclear power plants, and voluntarily accept international monitoring to reduce concerns in the international community.

The tension in the deteriorating relations between China and Japan has increased further. Now Beijing...

The tension in the deteriorating relations between China and Japan has increased further. Now Beijing has announced action against Shigeru Iwasaki, former Chief of Staff of the Self-Defense Forces. At the same time, Japanese media has called it a symbolic ban, which is a response to his appointment as an advisor to Taiwan’s cabinet this year.

According to Global Times, Shigeru Iwasaki is accused of conspiring for ‘Taiwan independence’. China on Monday (December 15, 2025) announced retaliation against Shigeru Iwasaki, former chief of staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. The allegation is that this was due to their public collusion with separatist forces, violated the spirit of the One China Policy and the Four Political Documents between China and Japan, interfered in China’s domestic affairs, and tried to violate China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In accordance with the provisions of Articles 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 15 of the Foreign Anti-Sanction Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese side has decided to take retaliatory measures against Iwasaki. The ministry said these retaliatory measures include visa restrictions, freezing Iwasaki’s assets, and prohibiting any transactions or cooperation with him. This decision is effective from Monday.

According to The Japan Times, the matter is old. Iwasaki served as SDF chief from 2012 to 2014. During that time, tensions had increased between Tokyo and Beijing regarding the islands of the East China Sea. He helped design joint operations for the SDF and worked closely with US forces.

These sanctions have been imposed at a time when relations between Japan and China regarding Taiwan have reached their worst point in many years. Japan’s PM Sanae Takaichi had said last month that any military action by China against the self-ruled island could become such a big threat to Japan. In such a situation, she can allow SDF to take action. His statement angered Beijing because it considers any issue related to Taiwan as its internal matter.

Iwasaki is the second Japanese citizen this year on whom China has imposed sanctions, earlier in September it had taken similar steps against MP Hei Seki. Seki, who was born in China and later became a Japanese citizen, was accused by Beijing of interfering in China’s internal affairs and undermining its sovereignty.
