China reiterated its territorial claims on Shaksgam Valley on Monday (January 12, 2026) amid India’s objections and said that its infrastructure projects in this area are absolutely justified. In fact, last Friday (January 9, 2026), India had criticized China’s infrastructure projects in Shaksgam Valley, saying that this is Indian territory and it has the right to take necessary steps to protect its interests.

In 1963, Pakistan handed over 5,180 square kilometers of Shaksgam Valley from illegally occupied Indian territory to China.

India never recognized China-PAK agreement- Jaiswal

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘Shaksgam Valley is Indian territory. We have never recognized the so-called China-Pakistan border agreement made in 1963. We have been continuously saying that this agreement is illegal and invalid. He said, ‘We also do not recognize the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), because it passes through Indian territory, which is illegally and forcibly occupied by Pakistan.’

Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India- Jaiswal

In response to a question related to China’s infrastructure projects in Shaksgam Valley, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inseparable part of India. This has been clearly told to Pakistani and Chinese officials many times.

China reacted to India’s comment

Responding to Jaiswal’s comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press conference held in Beijing, ‘First of all, the area you are mentioning is part of China.’ He said, ‘China’s infrastructure activities in its own region are absolutely justified. China and Pakistan had signed a border agreement in the 1960s and the border between the two countries was fixed. This is the right of China and Pakistan as sovereign countries.

What did the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry say about CPEC?

At the same time, when criticized by India regarding CPEC, Mao reiterated Beijing’s old stand and said that it is an economic initiative, the objective of which is local economic and social development and improving the lives of the people. He said, ‘Such an agreement and CPEC will not affect China’s stand on the Kashmir issue and China’s stand on this issue remains unchanged.’

What is China’s stand on Kashmir issue?

China’s official position on the Kashmir issue is that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute has been long-standing and should be resolved appropriately and peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements. China has been reiterating this stance.

China has inaugurated the world’s longest Tianshan Shengli Tunnel in Xinjiang province and opened it to the general public. This tunnel is about 22.13 kilometers long and passes under the Central Tianshan mountain located in the Uyghur region of northwest China.

According to Song Hailiang, Chairman of China Communications Construction Company, this tunnel has created two world records. He said that this is the longest expressway tunnel in the world and it has the deepest vertical shaft compared to any highway tunnel.

How China’s new Tianshan Shengli Tunnel will make travel easier

The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, which passes through the central Tianshan Mountains in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, has reduced the difficult and long journey through mountainous terrain from several hours to about 20 minutes.

According to the government news agency Xinhua, this tunnel is a major part of the G0711 Urumqi-Yuli Expressway, which became operational on Friday (December 26, 2025).

This expressway will serve as an important transport artery linking city clusters to the north and south of Xinjiang.

The world’s longest tunnel, spanning about 2,500 kilometers, is located in the Tianshan mountain range in central Xinjiang and separates the provincial capital Urumqi from Korla.

With the opening of the expressway, the travel time between Urumqi and Korla has reduced from about 7 hours to about three to three and a half hours.

This new engineering achievement of China passes through 16 major geological fault zones.

This more than 22 kilometer long tunnel passes through the Tianshan mountain range, where earlier the journey used to take several hours, now the same journey is completed in just 20 minutes.

China started the construction work of this entire project in the year 2020. It has been completed at a cost of about 6.6 billion US dollars.

US President Donald Trump on Friday (October 17, 2025) has given a big statement regarding the tariffs imposed on China. Amidst the increasing tension between China and America, Trump said that the tariffs imposed on China are not sustainable.

This statement of Donald Trump has come before his possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In an interview with Fox Business, when Donald Trump was asked whether the tariffs imposed by the two countries on each other at the beginning of this year could remain equal? On this, President Trump said, ‘This tariff is not sustainable. But these are the figures. It could work, but they forced me to do it. He said, ‘He will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in the next two weeks and he feels that everything will be fine with China.’

China is always looking for advantage – Trump

President Trump told Fox Business, ‘China is always trying to gain advantage. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Now let’s see what will happen next. At the same time, this tariff dispute between Washington and Beijing has increased the US import tax on Chinese goods to 145 percent, which has increased fears about the global economic recession.

However, those tariffs were paused for 90 days under the agreement. If this agreement between China and America is not extended in between, then this agreement is going to end on November 10.

Donald Trump threatened China

US President Donald Trump last week threatened to impose 100 percent additional tariffs on Chinese goods from November 1, 2025, and even considered canceling a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This meeting between the Presidents of the two countries is expected to take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit to be held in South Korea later this month.

During the interview, Trump said about Xi Jinping, ‘I have a very good rapport with him. I think everything will be fine with China, but we want a fair agreement and it will be completely fair.

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the relationship between Russia-India (India)-China (RIC) on Friday (September 5, 2025). During this discussion, Vladimir Putin said that Chinese President Xi Jinping compared it to the dance of Dragon and elephant to show the relations between China and India. He said that later the bear of Russia was also added to it.

In the Eastern Economic Forum 2025, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin jokingly spoke of using a tiger instead of a bear instead of a bear for the far-eastern region of Russia. He said, ‘Of course, the bear is a symbol of Russia, but we are currently sitting here in the remote-eastern region and the world’s largest tiger is of this area. Putin spoke to Amur tiger or Siberian tigers.

Putin tightens the symbol of America

During this, Russian President Vladimir Putin taunted the symbol of two -headed Garuda of America. He taunted and said, “It only looks towards East and West, but you all know that there is also South.”

Prime Minister of Nepal K.K. P. Sharma Oli on Saturday (August 30, 2025) raised strong objection to the agreement of India and China to resume border trade through Lipulekh. Oli claimed that the area comes under the jurisdiction of Nepal under the Sugardhi Treaty of 1816.

Of. P. Oli gave his message directly to Chinese President Xi Jinping in this regard. Oli said this to Xi Jinping during bilateral talks at Tianjin on Saturday (31 August). This meeting of Nepali PM and Chinese President took place just before the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) summit and SCO Plus meeting held at Tianjin.

Nepal’s foreign secretary issued a statement and shared information

Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has issued a statement in this regard. He said, ‘Oli reminded Xi Jinping that the Mahakali river was fixed as the boundary line in the Sugauli Treaty and all areas located in the east direction of the river have been described as part of Nepal, including Lipulekh.’

Rai said, ‘Prime Minister Oli also raised the Lipulekh issue during the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In this case, he clarified that according to the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, all areas falling in the east of Mahakali river are from Nepal. In such a situation, China should not support this agreement using Lipulekh area for trade, as Nepal objected to this agreement between India and China. This clear message was conveyed to President Xi Jinping.

Nepal PMO Repeated Oli’s stance

Apart from the Foreign Secretary, the Prime Minister’s Office of Nepal (PMO) also PM K.K. Repeating this attitude of P. Sharma Oli clearly put Nepal’s side clearly. PMO said in its statement, ‘In a meeting with President Xi, PM Oli clearly objected to Nepal’s Indo-China agreement to make Nepali area a way of trade.

Disputes emerged again after India and China agreement

The controversy emerged again earlier this month, when India and China agreed to reopen the trade from Lipulekh Pass in Darchula district of Nepal during a conversation in New Delhi.

At the same time, in response to this agreement of China and India, the Nepali Foreign Ministry reiterated on August 20 that the official map of Nepal has its integral parts of scripts, lipulekh and kalapani, which is mentioned in the Constitution of Nepal. However, India has retained its stance that the border trade from Lipulekh has been running since 1954 and in the last few years it was interrupted only due to Korona epidemic and some other reasons. But now India and China have agreed to resume it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to work towards the fair, proper and mutually acceptable solution of the Indo-China border issue on Sunday (August 31, 2025). He also pledged to expand business and investment relations, acknowledging the role of both economies in stabilizing global trade.

The conversation between PM Modi and Xi Jinping in Northern China’s Tianjin city on the sidelines of the Annual Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation (SCO) took place in the backdrop of the upheaval in the global economy due to the tariff policy of the administration led by US President Donald Trump. The two leaders in their comprehensive conversation mainly focused on promoting trade and investment relations.

Modi emphasized the importance of peace and harmony in border areas

In the meeting, Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of peace and harmony in the border areas for the continuous development of India-China relations. He said that New Delhi is committed to pursue its relationship with Beijing on the basis of mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.

According to a statement issued by India, the two leaders committed to promote bilateral trade and investment relations and reduce trade deficit. He agreed to expand the shared base on bilateral, regional and global issues and challenges on terrorism and multilateral forums.

India-China cooperation is related to the interests of 2.8 billion people- PM Modi

In his statement aired on television, PM Modi said, ‘Our cooperation is related to the interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries. This will also pave the way for the welfare of all humanity. At the same time, the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) said in its statement that Modi and Xi Jinping accepted the role of both economies in stabilizing the world trade and underlined the need to move political and strategically to promote bilateral trade and investment relations and to reduce trade deficit.

Mea said, ‘The Prime Minister emphasized that both India and China want strategic autonomy and their relations should not be seen from the perspective of a third country. The two leaders described the expansion of shared base on bilateral, regional and global issues and challenges on terrorism and multilateral forums.

What did PM Modi say after meeting with Jinping,

In a social media post, PM Modi termed his conversation with Xi Jinping as fruitful. He wrote, ‘We reviewed the positive pace of India-China relations after our last meeting in Kazan, Russia. We admitted that it is important to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas. We reiterated our commitment to cooperation based on mutual respect, interests and sensitivity.

India and China have taken several steps in recent months to remove the increased tussle in the relationship between the two countries after the violent clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley of East Ladakh in June 2020.
