A strange case has come to light in the India vs England Oval Test. On the second day of the match, Team India’s first innings was reduced to 224 runs, in response, the England team has scored 247 runs. In this way, the English team got a lead of 23 runs in the first innings. England’s innings came into the discussion because even after losing only 9 wickets, it was declared an allout. This is due to the ICC’s Substitute Rules, which remained in controversies during this series.

England lost the eighth wicket at a score of 235. After that, Harry Brook and Josh Tung added 12 runs for the 9th wicket, then England’s 9th wicket fell on the score of 247. England’s innings was declared an allout as soon as the ninth wicket fell.

9 wickets fell, yet allout

On the first day of the Oval Test, Chris Woakes was injured while stopping a boundary. He could not return to the field on the first day and before the beginning of the second day, ECB announced that the Vox has been dropped from the fifth Test.

Under the ICC’s Substitute Rules, England team can replace the 11th fielder in the field during fielding. But the subsidy rules also say that the player can neither bat as a substitute in place of the injured player nor bowling. Due to the subsidy rule, no other player could batting instead of Chris Woakes.

During this series, the Substitute Rules also came into the discussion due to Rishabh Pant. In the Manchester Test, Rishabh Pant had a fracture in the toe. If Pant had not come to batting, Team India would have been declared an allout if 9 wickets fell.
