He said, ‘As far as I feel, I will not accept the post of head of any tribunal. I will not accept any governor’s post. I will not even accept being nominated in Rajya Sabha. I am very clear about this.

CJI Surya Kant heard 17 cases on the first day
On his first day as Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant set a new procedural benchmark on Monday (November 24). He said that for immediate listing the cases should be mentioned in writing. Oral requests will be considered in exceptional circumstances, such as in cases involving the death penalty and personal liberty. The bench led by CJI Surya Kant heard 17 cases for about 2 hours on the very first day.

Let us tell you that earlier, former Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna had stopped the oral practice for immediate listing of cases in the apex court. However, Justice Gavai, who came to this post after Justice Khanna, started it again. In such a situation, the number of commercial cases will increase, for which we will have to be prepared. He described India’s judicial system as one of the best judicial systems in the world. Recalling his days as a lawyer, he said that he had received invaluable guidance from the senior members of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. He described the relationship between the Bar and the Bench as an unbreakable one.
