On Tuesday (August 26, 2025) in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, a sudden rain started, in which about 15 houses were swept away and three people died. Relief and rescue work is being done rapidly in the affected areas, but there is an atmosphere of panic among the local people. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of heavy rains in many areas during the next few hours.

1. Due to heavy rains, the journey of Mata Vaishno Devi has been stopped because there was a landslide in this way. The accident took place near Ardhkunwari, where thousands of devotees go to the court of Mother Vaishno Devi every day. While 5 people died in this accident, 14 people were injured. According to the officials of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the Himkoti route was first closed after heavy rains. According to IMD, there is a danger of floods in Udhampur, Samba, Doda, Jammu, Kathua and Kishtwar districts till 5:30 am on August 27.

2. The Tawi river in Udhampur is currently flowing above the danger mark. A part of the bridge over the Tawi river in Bhagwati Nagar was swept away. The water level of this river is very high of the water level recorded during the floods in 2014. Water can reach Jammu city in the coming hours. As a precaution, the main Tawi bridge from Bikram Chowk, Jammu has been closed for the movement of vehicles.

3. The Jammu Divisional Commissioner, along with the Deputy Commissioners of all 10 districts, apprised the Chief Minister about the ground status and preparations of his respective areas. The Chief Minister was made aware of the highest flood level, warning levels and rising water levels in rivers, drains and other water bodies recorded at various places. The Chief Minister instructed the administration to ensure timely supply of food, clean drinking water, medicines and other essential items to the affected families.

4. Due to heavy rains in many places, the normal life was disturbed due to landslides and sudden floods. Many buildings collapsed and lost contact with the National Highway. The river water level in Manali increased so much that water entered the plains of Manali, causing Manali-Leh National Highway to collapse.

5. Due to continuous heavy rains in the Jammu region, the North Railway on Tuesday canceled 18 trains coming from Katra, Udhampur and Jammu railway stations. The Jammu region has been receiving heavy rains since Monday night, causing the bridges to be damaged, road connectivity disrupted and large terrain was submerged, forcing people to go to safe areas.

6. According to railway officials, train services from Pathankot to Kandori in Himachal Pradesh have also been suspended due to heavy soil erosion on the mill river and sudden floods. He said that four trains were short terminated in Ferozepur, Manda and Chak Rakhwal. He said that the movement of trains on Katra-Srinagar route is going on.

7. Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar and Kishtwar-Doda National Highway has been suspended, while several hill roads have been blocked or damaged due to landslides or sudden floods.

8. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that all the schools in the state will be closed till 27-30 August due to the forecast of heavy rains. Due to heavy rains, there are flood conditions in many districts of Punjab.

9. Union Territory of Ladakh’s height areas received the first snowfall of the weather, while its low -lying areas received moderate rains. Officials said that there has been snowfall on Khardung La Pass, located at an altitude of 18,379 feet. There has been rain in Leh and Kargil district headquarters as well as other subdivisions. IMD has issued a red alert regarding heavy rains in Ladakh.

10. In view of bad weather and floods in the area, all government and private schools in Jammu division will remain closed on August 27, 2025.

There is an appeal to the people to avoid travel till reinstatement.

Meanwhile, CM Omar Abdullah held a review meeting. He said that the situation is serious, keeping an eye on themselves.

Omar Abdullah said, “The situation is very serious in many parts of Jammu. I will personally go from the next flight from Srinagar to Jammu to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, instructions have been issued to provide additional funds to the Deputy Commissioners (DCS) to meet emergency restoration work and other requirements.

At the same time, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and BJP MP from Udhampur Jitendra Singh said that he just spoke to DC Harvinder Singh of Doda. According to him, sudden floods have been reported in Charava area of ​​Khalasa. No casualties have been reported due to this sudden flood so far. The administration is keeping an eye on the situation and my office is being given regular updates.
