Claude Mythos Threats: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a high-level meeting with the heads of public and private sector banks on Thursday. During this, he talked about Anthropic’s Claude Mythos model and its potential cyber security risks. Claude Mythos is claimed to be the most advanced AI model in terms of cyber security.

The Finance Ministry’s official account on Twitter said that Nirmala Sitharaman warned stakeholders about the possible impact of Claude Mythos. The post said that Mythos faces several unprecedented threats, which require a very high level of vigilance, readiness and better coordination between financial institutions and banks.

What is the Claude Mythos?

This is the most powerful AI model ever created by a company named Anthropic. According to the company, this model is so adept in cyber security that it is being kept out of the reach of common people. The company says that Mythos is expert in finding and removing such small flaws or cracks related to cyber security in the banking system, which are beyond human control.

In the 1990s, when the Internet and operating systems were being developed, not much attention was paid to security. Now these flaws are buried inside the old code, which Mythos AI can remove. It is capable of deep investigation into old operating systems or web browsers. Anthropic has said that making it available on a large scale would be like putting advanced hacking capabilities in the hands of anyone with a laptop.

What are its dangers?

As a result, Anthropic has limited access to the Claude Mythos to only a select group of about 40 companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. However, according to reports, an unauthorized group of users had gained access to Mythos, which may have given them the opportunity to exploit cybersecurity flaws.

In such a situation, the government told the banks to make their walls so strong that if there is an attack or something suspicious is seen, it can be immediately informed to other banks. The Finance Minister also says that this AI model can be used to steal money from banks or obtain personal information of customers.

The Government of India is not the only organization which is keeping an eye on Mythos. According to reports, the US government has also held talks with various Wall Street banks to take similar measures. The White House is also possibly planning to use Mythos to strengthen cybersecurity across its various agencies.
