Assam Elections 2026: Political turmoil has intensified ahead of the results of Assam Assembly elections 2026, where Congress and its allies have claimed that their government is going to be formed in the state and have dismissed the exit polls as an attempt to create an atmosphere.

On Saturday, senior Congress observer D.K. Shivkumar, Bhupesh Baghel and Jitendra Singh held meetings with alliance partners, while Congress has contested this election in alliance with Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), CPI(M), APHLC and CPI(ML).

Gaurav Gogoi’s claim – Government will be formed easily

After the meeting, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi claimed that the alliance will form the government comfortably and said that the people of the state, farmers, youth and women have voted for change. He also termed the exit poll as a strategy of the ruling party and said that the results will come on May 4 and everyone will have to prepare for the counting keeping an eye on the strong room.

‘People did not speak openly because of fear’

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also rejected the exit poll and said that there is an atmosphere of fear among the voters, hence people could not express their opinion openly. He alleged that those who do not agree with BJP are not getting the benefits of government schemes and his team is strong and united. Shivkumar also claimed that some BJP leaders are trying to get in touch with Congress due to fear of defeat and the party has full confidence in its internal survey.

NDA has lead in exit polls

Exit polls have shown the BJP-led NDA in the lead, where Axis My India has given the NDA 88-100 seats, JVC 88-101 seats and Matriz 85-95 seats, while the Congress alliance has been given between 23 to 36 seats. Counting of votes for Assam assembly elections will take place on May 4 and this time Congress has given a tough challenge to the BJP led NDA by forming an alliance with six parties.
