Cold Feet Problem: As soon as the winter season starts, everyone hides in quilts or blankets to protect themselves from the cold. But have you ever noticed that despite being under a quilt, your feet still remain cold? If this happens to you often, then do not consider it just because of cold or weather. It could also be a sign of deficiency of some essential nutrient in the body or some hidden disease.

poor blood flow

The most common reason for cold feet is blood not flowing properly in the body. When the blood flow does not reach the feet completely, the temperature there falls and one starts feeling cold. The American Heart Association says that weak blood circulation can make hands and feet feel numb or cold. This condition is more common in people who sit for long periods of time or move very little. If so, then it is beneficial to take a short walk every day, do a light massage of the feet and do not sit in the same position for a long time.

iron deficiency

If your feet are always cold, it is possible that there is iron deficiency in the body. According to WHO, iron deficiency is the most common nutritional problem in the world and is also the biggest cause of anemia. WHO reports that about 1.62 billion people worldwide suffer from anemia, out of which almost half of the cases are due to iron deficiency. When there is less iron in the body, the flow of oxygen in the blood decreases, due to which hands and feet feel cold. To prevent this, eat spinach, jaggery, beetroot, pomegranate, pulses and green vegetables. If needed, iron supplements can also be taken as per doctor’s advice.

Thyroid hormone imbalance

Thyroid controls the metabolism of the body. When this hormone is not produced in sufficient quantity, body heat decreases and one starts feeling cold quickly, especially in the hands and feet. According to the American Thyroid Association, people with hypothyroidism have reduced ability to tolerate cold. If there are problems like weight gain, fatigue or hair fall along with it, then thyroid must be checked.

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Vitamin B12 is very important for the nerves and blood cells of the body. According to the report of the National Institutes of Health, its deficiency causes the nerves to become weak, due to which tingling, numbness or coldness may be felt in the legs. To fulfill its deficiency, consume milk, eggs, fish and dairy products. If you are a vegetarian, you can take B12 supplements as per doctor’s advice.

Diabetes and nerve damage

Diabetes i.e. sugar disease can also be a reason for cold feet. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 50 percent of people suffering from diabetes suffer some form of nerve damage. This is called diabetic neuropathy, which causes coldness, tingling or numbness in the feet. If you have diabetes, keep sugar under control, eat less sweets and do some exercise daily.

Effect of cold can also be the reason

Sometimes cold feet are just due to weather. Harvard Health Publishing explains that when temperatures drop, the body focuses more on keeping its vital organs, such as the heart and brain, warm. In such a situation, the blood flow in the feet and hands reduces, due to which they become cold. To avoid this, wear woolen socks, keep the body warm and if necessary, use a hot water bottle.

The feet are a very important part of our body and they really tell the condition of our health. Some symptoms that appear in the feet may be an early signs of a serious disease. If you find anything unusual in your feet, do not ignore it. By recognizing these symptoms on time, you can avoid major diseases. Dr. AK Mishra, the famous orthopedic surgeon of Kanpur, says that if you see some special symptoms in your feet, do not ignore them. These can be a sign of a serious illness, for which it is necessary to seek advice to the doctor immediately.

Swelling of legs and ankles

Inflammation in the legs and ankles, often called fluid retention, can be a symptom of many health problems, including diseases associated with heart, kidney or liver. It can also be caused by protein or vitamin B12 and folate deficiency. To reduce swelling, keep your feet up for a while. Reduce the amount of salt in the ears also helps in fluid retention.
Legs or ankles

Pain in the legs or ankles can be caused by a problem related to an injury, arthritis or nerve. If the pain increases when walking and less on rest, it can be a symptom of stress fracture or osteoporosis. Lack of magnesium can cause muscle cramps and joint discomfort. Pain can also occur due to problems related to the veins or not reaching the right amount of blood till the ankle.

Numbness

Numbness of the feet or feeling tingling is a sign of nerve damage, also known as peripheral neuropathy. It can also be caused by diabetes, excessive consumption of alcohol or chemotherapy. This problem is quite common in diabetes patients, because high blood sugar can harm the veins. Apart from this, lack of essential vitamins like vitamin B-12 and vitamin-E in the body also causes the health of the veins, which can cause this problem.

Foot cramps

Frequent legs cramps can be a sign of decrease of essential nutrients and minerals such as dehydration or magnesium. These minerals are very important for the correct functioning of the muscles and the nervous transmission. If you are often cramps, you drink plenty of water, take a diet rich in nutrients and minals and massage light stretching and legs before bedtime.

Heel pain

Heel pain or planter fisheritis is a common problem. This can happen for many reasons, but if you are having constant pain, then there may be some serious reasons behind it. Vitamin D deficiency, wearing wrong shoes, overweight, excessive physical activities are many reasons that can cause heel pain.

Cold legs or cold feet

The legs are often cold, but it can also be a sign of an internal disease. Hands and feet remain cold due to reasons like poor blood circulation, nutritional deficiency, thyroid problem, poor lifestyle. To prevent this, include iron and thyroid-porting foods in your food. Wear insulated shoes or socks to keep your feet warm.

Akle’s torn skin

Cracks in ankles or heels are not only due to dry skin, but the deficiency of vitamin A, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids can also be the reason for this. Diabetes and eczema can also increase it. Walking barefoot, wearing wrong shoes and using rough soap can also increase this problem. To avoid this, keep your ankles regularly moisturized and wear the right and comfortable shoes to protect your feet.

Spider veins

Spider vesses are a common problem, which is caused by the accumulation of blood in the veins. In this, the veins look like spider webs. When the valve present in the veins is weak, the blood is not able to go upwards properly and accumulate, making spider veins. For this, this problem can also be caused by lack of pavi vitamin C and bioflavonoids.
