Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Rajendra Shukla says that from September 7, 20 children have lost their lives in Chhindwara, Betul and Pandhurna districts of Madhya Pradesh. Maximum 17 deaths have occurred in Chhindwara alone. After this, 4 new cases of death have also come up here in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, 3 children in Rajasthan had to bear the brunt of this poisonous phlegm syrup.

In which states the fear of phlegm syrup?

After the use of syrup, the health system of all the states has come into alert mode. Apart from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, there is a fear in other states as well. Due to this, the sale of cold -cuff syrup in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Punjab has been completely banned. Apart from this, this syrup making company has shown strictness and has also ordered an inquiry into medicines.

Why is the life going through cuff syrup?

A dangerous chemical named Diathylene Glacol, present in this phlegm syrup given to young children, has killed the children. According to experts, this chemical directly damages the kidney. This is a chemical that is used in the paint industry. Drinking this provides problems like vomiting, diarrhea and a few days later, after which a person dies due to kidney failure.

Government ordered inquiry

All the plants of this deadly cuff syrup of the Coldrif Company have also taken action by the state governments, after which its extra stocks in the market have also been removed along with banning its sale. Also, instructions have been issued to examine the medicines made on all its plants.

The main cause of these deaths is being described in the cuff syrup.

What is Deg and why is it mixed with phlegm syrup?

Diathylene glycol is an industrial solvent, used in antifreeze, brake fluid and paint industry. It is very dangerous for humans, but due to being cheap and easily available, some manufacturers mix it in the medicine. Generally, propylene glycol is used in making cuff syrup, which is a safe solvent – but it is expensive. The manufacturers mix the cheap greed. After the cases of death of children, when this medicine was examined in the lab, it was found that the quantity of DEG in it was 48.6 percent.

How does a bad effect on the body?

DEG has a very bad effect on the kidney and liver health by accumulating in the body. This increases the chances of liver and kidney failure. This shows many types of symptoms in children, such as-

Tamil Nadu manufacturer Shreson Pharmaceuticals has also been made the main accused in this case, the doctor is in police custody. “

Cuffs were toxic chemicals in syrup

Please tell that taking quick action, the police took Dr. Praveen Soni into custody from Rajpal Chowk in Chhindwara. It is being told that Dr. Soni is posted in the government hospital, but keeping the rules on hold, the patients were presenting the same syrup in private clinics, which lost the life of the children. Preliminary investigation has revealed that there were poisonous chemicals in Kapha syrup. Due to this adulteration, children were severely reacted and they died during treatment. Doctor Praveen Soni is accused that he presented this syrup to many children without a thorough investigation.

Diathylin glycol a toxic substance

After the incident, when phlegm syrup was examined, the volume of dialine glycol was found to be much higher than the prescribed limit. In general, the amount of diamethylene glycol in phlegm syrup should be up to 0.10 percent, but in the investigation this quantity was found to be 48 percent, which is about 480 times more than the standard. Diathylene glycol is a toxic substance, which can cause severe damage to the body. Because of this, the government banned Coldrif Kapha syrup.

After the death of 9 children in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, the state government has taken a big step. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has banned the sale of Coldrif Cuff Syrup across the state. This incident has shocked the entire state. Taking immediate action, the government has started investigating the syrup making company and its products.

Taking a tough stance in the matter, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that, “The death of children due to Coldrif Syrup in Chhindwara is extremely tragic. The sale of this syrup has been banned throughout Madhya Pradesh.” He further said that the sale of other products of the syrup making company is also being banned. This syrup is produced in a factory located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

CM said that the syrup making factory is in Kanchipuram, so after the incident came to the notice, the state government had asked the Tamil Nadu government to investigate. The investigation report was received this morning. Based on the report, strict action has been taken.

Investigation team active at local and state level

The CM said that after the sad death of the children, action was going on at the local level. At the state level too, a team has been formed to investigate this matter. The culprits will not be spared at any cost.

Deg quantity more than the prescribed limit

The Union Health Ministry has also released information in this matter. According to the Ministry, the investigation of 6 samples taken by CDSCO (Central Drug Standards Control Organization) did not find DEG/EG (Diethylene Glycol/Ethylene Glycol).

At the same time, 3 of the 13 samples taken by Madhya Pradesh FDA were examined and they were also found free from DEG/EG. However, when Tamil Nadu FDA took samples of Coldrif Syrup from Sresan Pharma in Kanchipuram, the report on 3 October 2025 found the Deg volume above the permissible limit.

Ongoing investigation and sample testing in 6 states

In view of the seriousness of the case, investigation has been started on manufacturing sites of 19 drugs across the country. This investigation is being done under the “Risk-Based Inspection”, so that there is no flaw in the quality of medicines. Also, NIV (National Institute of Virology), ICMR, Neeri, CDSCO and AIIMS have reached the multi-disciplinary team Chhindwara and surrounding areas of Nagpur. This team is trying to find out the real causes of the deaths of children.

This incident of Chhindwara once again questions the quality control system of pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. Investigation is going on at both the state government and the center levels, and there may be more big revelations on it in the coming days.
