Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed concern over the arrest of former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe. He has appealed to Colombo to renounce the politics of vengeance and treat his former President honorable.

Shashi Tharoor said that the Sri Lankan government should treat his former President with the honor and dignity, which he is entitled to after serving decades towards the country.

What did Sri Lankan journalist tell?

Talking to news agency ANI, senior Sri Lankan journalist S Venkat Narayan said, “I think it is very ridiculous because he (Wickramasinghe) said before the arrest that I have never done anything for myself. I only worked for Sri Lanka and you know that I know how to arrest me (President Anua Kumara Disanayake) is leading the administration at this time.”

According to a report by Newswire Lanka, Ranil Wickramasinghe was arrested on Friday on charges of misuse of government money. His arrest is associated with allegations of using government money to meet the expenses of a private trip to London, where he attended a university graduate ceremony. Investigators claim that the journey which was part of a broad foreign tour was not an official program, but was funded by government money.

Colombo search operation: After the Pahalgam terror attack, a search operation is being conducted on a large scale to find terrorists and people associated with them. In the same sequence, after the information received from India, six suspects have reached Sri Lanka by a flight from Chennai, on the afternoon of Saturday (May 03, 2025) at Colombo Airport.

According to a report by news agency PTI, Sri Lankan Airlines said that a large -scale search operation was conducted on the flight number UL 122 at 11:59 am at Bhandarnayake International Airport. Police spokesperson said that Indian officials had warned Sri Lanka that there were six suspects from Pahalgam in the plane. He said that it is believed that the suspects have reached Colombo by Sri Lankan Airlines plane.

No suspect found

According to local reports, Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Air Force and Airport Security Units jointly conducted a search operation. But no suspect was found. The airline said that it received an alert from Chennai Area Control Center. Sri Lankan Airlines said that on reaching Colombo, the aircraft was thoroughly examined and after that it was approved to go further.

India’s action against Pakistan

The country’s leading anti-terrorism agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been entrusted with the task of investigating this attack. India took immediate action against Pakistan and suspended the Indus Water Treaty. Apart from this, imports and upcoming parcels from Pakistan have also been banned. Pakistani ships have been stopped from coming to Indian ports. India has also canceled the visas of Pakistani citizens. In response, Pakistan has threatened to abolish all bilateral agreements with India, including the Shimla Agreement.

Apart from this, he made new agreements with the government of Sri Lanka, including areas such as infrastructure, digital connectivity, and green energy.

India helped Sri Lanka

The Prime Minister’s visit to Sri Lanka is taking place at a time when this island country is indicating to recover from the economic crisis.
