America’s prestigious Columbia University is going to make a big agreement with the Trump administration. The university is alleged to have not given adequate protection to Jewish students from harassment on campus. Now, to resolve this dispute, preparations are being made to give compensation of $ 200 million.

According to a New York Times report, Columbia University officials may meet US President Donald Trump next week to finalize the agreement. The Trump administration stopped the first $ 400 million Federal Research Funding. Now this agreement is being done to partially restore the same funding.

What is involved in this agreement?

Under this agreement, the university will pay compensation to settle allegations of violation of civil rights. The university will have to bring more transparency regarding its admission process and foreign funding. However, this deal will not be a part of ‘Consent Decree’, that is, the government will not get long -term control over the operation of the university.

Monitoring from White House

The agreement is being negotiated from the White House directly under monitoring, which is being led by Trump’s senior advisor Stephen Miller. University officials discussed the terms of this deal last Sunday.

University spokesperson Virginia Lam Abrams said, “The university focuses on advancing the conversation with the federal government. No final decision has been taken yet.”

Trying to reduce distance from Trump administration

Since the Trump administration stopped the $ 400 million Federal Research Funding in March this year, Columbia University has been continuously trying to solve the concerns of the Trump administration. Under this, the university took many strict steps. For example, the campus police were given the rights to arrest the protesting students. Harvard University Funding Stopped: The Donald Trump administration in the US stopped the funding of about $ 2.3 billion to Harvard University on Monday (April 14). This decision was taken on the recommendation of a government task force created to deal with the anti -Jewish spirit. University President Alan Garber accused of intervening

This statement of the Education Department came after a letter from Alan Garber, President of Harvard University. He sent this letter to the students and staff of the university. In this, Garber clearly dismissed Trump’s demands, defended the independence of the university and accused the government of intervention. Garber wrote, “No government, no matter what party, should have the right to tell private universities what they should teach, whom to give admission to whom and do research on which subject.”

He said that these demands of the Trump administration violate the first amendment of the American Constitution, which gives freedom of expression. Also, this title is against VI law, which protects citizens from discrimination on the basis of breed, color or country. Garber said, “If a government wants to run the process of studying and teaching in Harvard according to its own, then our real purpose will not be fulfilled. We have to improve our shortcomings.”

Trump wrote a letter

President Trump wrote a letter to Harvard University on Friday. In this, he talked about making major changes in the administration and leadership of the university and improving its admission policy. He also asked Harvard to review the initiatives related to his ‘diversity’ and end the recognition of some students clubs.

The government has warned that if Harvard does not accept these things, then it may threaten about 9 billion dollars of funds and contracts. Harvard is not the only big institution on which the government is pressurizing. The Education Department has also stopped the funds received by Pennsylvania University, Brown and Princeton University due to similar differences. Columbia University was also threatened by the government to stop the grant of billions of dollars, after which it had to make changes in its policies.

Harvard President Garber admitted that the university had taken several big steps to prevent incidents of Jewish protest, but he also clearly said that such changes will be made in their own way, not under pressure from any government order.

Ranjini Srinivasan on Columbia University: After supporting Hamas, Indian PhD student Ranjani Srinivasan, who is self -submitted from the US, alleged that Columbia University had cheated her. She moved to Canada after the US visa was canceled from the US. He has been accused of being a supporter and sympathetic of Hamas.

Talking to news channel Al Jazeera, Ranjani Srinivasan accused Colombia University of not taking admission. He said, “I spent five years in Columbia University, worked. Sometimes even worked about 100 hours a week. I did not expect the institute to disappoint me, but it happened. I hope Columbia will be conscious and he would re-enroll me.”

Ranjani Srinivasan hopes for justice

Ranjani Srinivasan has expressed hope of fairness and justice from Columbia University. He said, “All the requirements for my PhD have been fulfilled and whatever is left I do not even need to live in America. I want Columbia to listen to my appeal.” Ranjani Srinivasan, a doctoral student at Columbia University, said that on 5 March 2025, he received an email from the US embassy in Chennai for the first time, stating that his student visa was canceled.

Fear of being arrested in America

Ranjani Srinivasan said that she was trying to contact the university officials, when the Ice (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent came to her door. Srinivasan said that he was afraid of being arrested in the US as US Home Safety Secretary Christie NoM posted on X and accused him of being a pro -terrorism.

No comments have been made by Columbia University on this incident yet. The US government has called him a pro -terrorism, but did not publicly shared any evidence of his involvement. Ranjani Srinivasan is currently in Canada.
