Retail Inflation: Due to the ongoing tension between US and Iran, the prices of crude oil are continuously increasing. Its direct impact is also on India’s economy. With the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas, the era of inflation has started. The country’s retail inflation rate has reached the highest level of 15 months at 3.48 percent in April. • Mizoram recorded the lowest inflation rate of 0.69 percent
• 1.77 percent in Chhattisgarh
• 1.96 percent in Delhi
• 2.02 percent in Ladakh
• 2.07 percent in Arunachal Pradesh

Inflation rate increased the most in these states

• The highest inflation rate of 5.81 percent was recorded in Telangana.
• 4.20 percent in Andhra Pradesh
• 4.18 percent in Tamil Nadu
• 4.00 percent in Karnataka
• And the inflation rate in Rajasthan was 3.77 percent.

These states remained on top in terms of inflation this month.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) estimates that the country’s retail inflation rate may be 4.6 percent in the financial year 2026-27. Better production of Rabi crop is considered to be the main reason behind this.

Prices of these things increased
The increase in inflation has had the biggest impact on five things. These include silver jewellery, coconut, gold-silver and platinum jewellery, tomato and cauliflower. Apart from this, inflation rate was high in food and beverages, paan tobacco and intoxicants, clothing and footwear, health, information and communication and educational services in April.

What did the RBI Governor say?
On this issue, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said, “Due to the rise in global energy prices, prices of some fuels like premium petrol, LPG and industrial use diesel have increased. At the same time, due to good Rabi crop, food supply is likely to be better in the near future, which may provide some relief.”
