Five Lowest Team Score In Test Cricket History: The format of Test cricket is completely different from T20 and ODI and that is why the batsmen do not show any haste here. First he settles down and then plays big shots. This is why teams make big scores. However, sometimes such situations arise in Test matches too, when teams collapse like a house of cards. Many times teams have been all out on very low scores in Tests. For example:- New Zealand team was limited to a score of just 26 runs against England in the year 1955. Here we will tell you about the five lowest team scores, which are recorded in the history of Test cricket.

5 lowest team scores in the history of test cricket

1.New Zealand – 26 runs vs England (1955)

The lowest score in the history of Test cricket came in the year 1955 in the match played at Eden Park, Auckland. New Zealand was all out for just 26 runs against England in its second innings. England’s bowlers, especially Brian Statham and Bob Appleyard, did not give any chance to the Kiwi batsmen. The New Zealand team was bowled out in 27 overs and only one batsman, Bert Sutcliffe, was able to reach double figures (11 runs). Due to this shameful performance, England won the match by an innings and 20 runs.

2. West Indies – 27 runs vs Australia (2025)

The second lowest score in the history of Test cricket came in the year 2025 in the Test match played between West Indies and Australia at Sabina Park, Kingston. Chasing the target of 205 runs, the West Indies team collapsed for just 27 runs in its second innings. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc took 6 wickets for just 9 runs, due to which West Indies’ batting fell apart like a pack of cards. This is West Indies’ lowest test score so far.

3. South Africa – 30 runs vs England (1896)

In the history of Test cricket, South Africa has had to face the embarrassment of being out on the lowest score many times. In a match against England at Gkebera in 1896, South Africa were all out for only 30 runs in their second innings. In this innings, England bowler George Lohman bowled amazingly and took 8 wickets for only 7 runs. England had easily won this match by a margin of 288 runs.

4. South Africa – 30 runs vs England (1924)

The fourth lowest score in the history of Test cricket came in the year 1924 in the match played between South Africa and England in Birmingham. The interesting thing is that South Africa had repeated the same score after 28 years. Once again the South African team was all out for just 30 runs. This performance reflects the strong bowling of England and the struggling start of South Africa in that period.

5. South Africa – 35 runs vs England (1899)

The fifth lowest score in the history of Test cricket came in the year 1899 in the match played between South Africa and England in Cape Town. In this match, the South African team was reduced to only 35 runs. All these matches took place in difficult conditions and in front of world class English bowlers, who made it almost impossible for the South African batsmen to score runs at that time.

The South African team that visited India created history in the Test series held during November and made a clean sweep by defeating Team India 2-0. This crushing defeat also freshened the wounds of that 25 year old defeat, when the South African team had defeated India 2-0. However, after that defeat, the issue of match fixing came to light, which shook the entire world. This was in April 2000, when serious allegations of match fixing were made against the cricket teams of India and South Africa. Let us introduce you to the whole matter.

How did the match fixing scandal start?

In the year 2000, Delhi Police taped a suspicious phone call during its routine security check. This call was of a conversation between the then South African captain Hansie Cronje and a bookie. When the police recorded this conversation, match fixing was revealed. Clear information was received in the call as to how the players will take the money and play in the prescribed manner, how many runs will be scored as per the set score, and what will be the team’s strategy. When Delhi Police made this recording public, after this revelation the ICC and all the national cricket boards decided to further tighten the anti-corruption rules.

Hansie Cronje initially denied the allegations, but later admitted that he fixed matches by taking money from bookies. After this confession, he was banned from cricket for life. Hansie Cronje died in a plane crash in 2002.

Which Indian players’ names came out?

As new revelations continued to emerge, the Indian cricket team also came under suspicion. The case was handed over to CBI, in which the names of many Indian players came to light. These included Ajay Jadeja, Mohammad Azharuddin, Manoj Prabhakar and Ajay Sharma. Cricket fans were surprised when the names of such big players came forward.

After investigation, Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma were banned for life. Whereas Ajay Jadeja and Manoj Prabhakar were banned for five years each. Although all the players were banned from playing cricket, no legal case was registered.

What were the changes in cricket rules?

Strict monitoring of players: During matches or tournaments, their movements and suspicious calls started being monitored.

Security of team hotels increased: Entry of suspicious persons and bookies was banned. The team was given a separate floor and strong surveillance.

No contact with bookies: Players were given clear instructions not to contact any bookie or bookie.

ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU): Which keeps a strict vigil on the players, team and management so that crimes like match fixing do not happen again.

The first match of Ashes 2025-2026 has been in the name of the bowlers. The first day of the first Test was in the name of the bowlers of England and Australia, a total of 19 wickets fell on the first day. On the second day, with England’s first wicket, something happened which had never happened in the history of cricket. This wicket belonged to Jack Crawley, who was sent to the pavilion with a brilliant catch by Mitchell Starc.

This happened for the first time in cricket history

This is the first time in 148 years of cricket history that the first wicket has fallen at zero in the first three innings of a Test. In England’s first innings too, Jack was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for zero, England’s score was also ‘zero’.

Even in Australia’s first innings, the first wicket fell at zero, when Joffra Archer got Jake Weatherald out LBW on the second ball of the very first over. In England’s second and third innings of the match, Starc once again made Jack Crawley his victim.

On the very first ball of the 5th over, Starc bowled the ball on the wicket line, on which Crawley tried to hit a shot in front but was dodged by the bounce. The ball was in the air, which Mitchell Starc caught with one hand in a spectacular dive.

Good partnership between Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope

England’s first innings ended at 172 runs, Mitchell Starc alone took 7 wickets. It seemed that now Australia would gain control in this match, but England’s bowlers turned the tables. Australia lost 9 wickets for 121 runs on the very first day. Ben Stokes had taken 5 wickets, on the second day Australia’s innings was reduced to 132 runs with the wicket of Nathan Lyon.

The start of England’s second innings was also not good, Mitchell Starc dismissed Jack Crawley for zero. But after this, Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett made a good partnership for the second wicket. Till the time of writing the news, England has scored 59 runs after losing 1 wicket, England has a lead of 99 runs.

A partnership of 177 runs for the third wicket between John Campbell and Shai Hope saved West Indies from an innings defeat. This has happened only for the fourth time in the history of cricket when the Indian team gave follow-on to the opposing team and they will have to bat in the fourth innings also. This happened in the India vs West Indies second test.

Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant inning of 175 runs, after which captain Gill also scored a century. He scored 129 unbeaten runs. India declared its first innings at 518 runs. After this, the first innings of West Indies started on the second day of the test. By the second session of the third day, West Indies’ first innings ended at 248 runs, then India decided to give follow-on to West Indies.

In the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav took 5 wickets, Ravindra Jadeja took 3 and Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj took 1-1 wicket. The way West Indies was batting, it seemed that India would win this test also by an innings. India had taken a lead of 270 runs in the first innings.

Team India will have to bat even after giving follow-on

In the second innings of West Indies, the first two wickets fell for 35 runs, but after this John Campbell and Shai Hope made a partnership of 177 runs. Campbell scored 115 runs, this was the first century of his Test career. He became the first batsman to score a Test century in India since 2002. Jadeja made John his victim. After this, Shai Hope (103) also completed his century, he was bowled by Mohammad Siraj.

As soon as West Indies crossed the score of 270 in the second innings, it was confirmed that India would have to bat in the fourth innings as well. The last time this happened was in November 2012. This happened only for the fourth time in the history of Indian cricket.

This has happened only for the third time with the Indian Cricket Team when no team has an edge after the first innings of a Test, that is, the score of both teams remains equal. The same happened in the India vs England third Test being played at Lord’s Cricket Ground, when Shubman Gill & Team was reduced to 387 runs. Earlier, the England team, which won the toss and batting first, also scored 387 runs.

Ben Stokes won the toss in the Test being played at Lord’s and chose batting first. On the first day, 251 runs were scored, on the second day Joe Root completed his century (104) but soon after Jaspreet was dismissed by Bumrah. Jamie Smith finally played an important innings of 51 runs and took the team’s score to 387.

India and England score equal

In India’s first innings, KL Rahul scored centuries (100), Karun Nair (40), Rishabh Pant (74), Ravindra Jadeja (72) scored important innings. The last pair was of Siraj and Washington Sundar, which broke as soon as the score was equalized.

This has happened for only the 9th time in history when both teams have been score in the first innings of a Test match. The last time this happened on the field of Leeds in 2015, which was won by New Zealand. Out of the last 8 matches, 6 have ended at the draw, 2 of them are also with Team India.

This happened for the third time with India

This has happened for the third time with the Indian cricket team, when the score has been equal in the first innings. Both the Tests played earlier have ended on the draw. This was the last time in 1986 with India.

In 1958- India vs West Indies, Kanpur, Draw

In 1986- England vs India, Birmingham, Draw

Both teams score equal in the first innings

In 1910- SA vs Eng, Durban, Draw

In 1958- IND Vs Wi, Kanpur, Draw

In 1973- PAK vs NZ, Auckland, Draw

In 1973- Wi vs Aus, Kingston, Draw

In 1986- Eng vs IND, Birmingham, Draw

In 1994- Wi Vs Eng, St. John’s, Draw

In 2003- Wi vs AUS, St. Johns, West Indies won

In 2015- Eng vs NZ, Leeds, New Zealand won

In 2025- Eng vs Ind, Lords

The first time in history is on the Lord’s Cricket Ground, called the Mecca of Cricket, when the score of both teams has been equal in the first innings of a Test. Talking about India vs England Test series, the first Test was won by England and the second Test was won by India.

Heinrich Klassen hit 2 sixes and 2 fours off Akshar Patel in the 15th over, a total of 24 runs came from this over. Now South Africa needed 30 runs in 30 balls, Klassen 49 and David Miller were unbeaten on 14 runs. Africa’s 6 wickets were in hand and it seemed very difficult to win India.

16th over: Jasprit Bumrah put pressure on the batsmen of South Africa with tight bowling, in this over, he conceded just 4 runs. Now South Africa needed 26 runs in 24 balls.

Hardik Pandya took the big wicket of Heinrich Klassen

17th over: On the very first ball, Hardik Pandya caught Heinrich Klassen out behind the wicket, then an Indian again thought that we can still win the 2024 World Cup title. Klassen was dismissed for 52 runs. After this, he kept pressure on the new batsman and conceded just 4 runs in the over. Now Africa needed 22 runs in 18 balls to win.

Jasprit Bumrah blew South Africa’s senses

18th over: In this over, Bumrah bowled Marco Jansen and gave only 2 runs in the over. This made India stronger and now South Africa needed 20 runs in 12 balls.

19th over: Rohit Sharma gave the 19th over to Arshdeep Singh, in which he bowled deadly. To only 4 runs, Miller could not hit any big hit in this over.

Suryakumar Yadav caught historical catch on the boundary line

20th over: On the first ball of Hardik Pandya, David Miller fired aerial, the ball went very high, Suryakumar Yadav caught the catch on the boundary line, but could not handle himself, he threw the ball back into the air and went beyond the boundary line. Then came in and grabbed this ball in the air and took a historical catch. Everyone knew that Surya had caught the World Cup, not this catch.

Untold Story of Indian Players after Win 1983 World Cup Final: On June 25, 1983, India won its first World Cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Team India defeated the West Indies, who became champions 2 consecutive times, in the title match. Mohinder Amarnath was the hero of the final, who took 3 wickets for 12 runs and scored 26 runs. But most people would not know that the Indian players were stuck in a problem that night. What happened that night, here you have been told.

The 1983 World Cup started from 9 June, on this day a total of 4 matches were played and India defeated the West Indies and told that he is a strong contender for the title. However, before the start of the tournament, India was being considered a weak team, while the West Indies were the most dangerous team of that time. After this, India defeated Zimbabwe and then lost to Australia.

The West Indies also took revenge and defeated India by 66 runs in an important match on 15 June. India again defeated Zimbabwe and lost to Australia in the match before the semi -finals. In the semi -finals, the Indian cricket team defeated England by 6 wickets to make it to the finals.

What happened in 1983 World Cup final

The West Indies won the toss and chose the first bowling. Sunil Gavaskar was the biggest batsman at that time, he was out after scoring 2 runs. Krishnammachari Srikanth (38) scored the most runs for India, Kapil Dev scored 15 runs. Mohinder Amarnath played an important innings of 26 runs. India was all out for 183 runs. It was felt that the West Indies would easily achieve it but it did not happen and the Windies collapsed for 140 runs. India created history and won by 43 runs and won the first World Cup.

Why was the players’ car caught by the police?

In media reports, senior journalist Vijay Lokpalli was quoted as saying that he had revealed this in a podcast. He could not do dinner in the process of celebrating victory. He had to eradicate his hunger by eating burgers.

Even after this, the players had to face a problem. The London police had set a time limit that how long a driver could drive a maximum, the driver in which the Indian player was in the time was over, despite he was driving. The driver was caught at a checkpoint. Indian players told the whole story that they have won the World Cup by defeating the West Indies. The authorities took autographs from them but still cut the challan and imposed a fine. However, it was not revealed who filled this money.

It was also told in the report that some Pakistani cricketers also attended the celebration with Indian players. The players went to the pub, meanwhile Kapil Dev was worried about how to pay so much bill, who would pay. But it is estimated that a rich Indian fan paid the bill that night.
