Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a major update of CTET February 2026. The board has started the online application process for the examination this time by issuing an official notification on 27 November 2025. Lakhs of candidates across the country, who are dreaming of becoming teachers from class 1 to 8, will now be able to apply online from 27 November to 18 December 2025. This examination is conducted to determine eligibility for teacher recruitment and its certificate is valid in many schools including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas.

The CTET exam will be held on 8 February 2026 in offline mode in two shifts at different examination centers across the country. Paper-II will be conducted from 9:30 am to 12 noon, while Paper-I will be conducted from 2:30 pm to 5 pm. The duration of both the papers will be 2 hours 30 minutes.

What qualification is required?

Talking about eligibility, for Paper-I, the candidate must have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) with 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education or 4 years B.El.Ed. Must have a degree. Whereas for Paper-II, it is mandatory to have graduation and with it D.El.Ed. Or B.Ed. degree is required.

How much will be the fee?

The application fee has been decided according to the category and paper. General and OBC candidates will have to pay Rs 1000 for one paper and Rs 1200 for both papers, while SC/ST and PWD candidates will have to pay Rs 500 for one paper and Rs 600 for both. The last date for depositing fees is also 18 December 2025.

CBSE has also released the complete timeline related to the application process. Online application will start from 27th November and will continue till 11:59 pm on 18th December. At the same time, the correction window will be active between 23rd to 26th December. Admit cards will be issued two days before the examination.

CTET Notification Soon: There is good news for the candidates preparing for CTET. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may soon release CTET notification for December 2025 session. Through this notification, the path to becoming a teacher will be easy, especially for those candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 8 in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya and other government schools. Paper I – This exam is for those candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 5. For this, the candidate must have a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd).

Paper II – This exam is for those candidates who want to teach classes 6 to 8. For this, the candidate must have B.Ed degree along with Bachelor degree.

Now if you are dreaming of becoming a teacher from 9th to 12th grade, then get ready to work a little more. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to make a big change. Now to teach from 9th to 12th grade, the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) exam will have to be given. For this, CBSE is going to release a new guideline soon. Know about this new rule in detail.

What is CTET and what was its scope?

CTET is an examination of National Level, which is conducted by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and CBSE. This examination is for those who want to become teachers in schools related to Central Schools like Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya or CBSE. Till now CTET was held at two levels.

• Paper 1: This is for those candidates who want to teach from class 1 to 5.
• Paper 2: This is for candidates wishing to teach from class 6 to 8.

Candidates can give both papers according to their will, but now this scope is being increased. Under the new rule, it will be mandatory to pass CTET to become a teacher from 9th to 12th grade.

What does the new rule say?

CBSE and NCTE are working on this new rule together. After this, now the CTET exam is likely to be held at four levels. These four levels will be like this.

• Class 1 to 5 (Paper 1)
• Class 6 to 8 (Paper 2)
• Class 9 to 12 (new paper)
• Bal Vatika (for Elementary Education)

This means that now CTET will have to take the examination to become a high school teacher. This rule will be applicable to all schools affiliated to CBSE. Apart from this, a separate examination can also be started for Bal Vatika (Elementary Education).

When will the new rule apply?

According to reports, CBSE will soon release a new guideline. If the guideline is issued on time, then this rule can apply from this year or next year. Due to some internal exams of the board, it is getting a little delay. If everything goes well, CTET can be held at three or four levels in 2025.

What was the qualification to become a 9th-12th teacher till now?

Till now, the candidate needed a degree of B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) and post graduation to teach from 9th to 12th grade. In some schools, it was not mandatory to pass CTET, but it depended on their will, but it is already necessary to pass CTET in schools associated with CBSE. After the new rule, now CTET will be compulsory for the teacher of 9th to 12th in all CBSE schools.
