There was heavy violence in Leh on 24 September amid the demand to make Ladakh a separate state, after which activist and environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested under the National Security Act (NSA). Curfew continues in Leh on the third day after the violence and there is tension in Ladakh, but now there is peace.

After the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk, the authorities are apprehensive of protests in Ladakh. Wangchuk has been arrested under NSA and kept in Jodhpur Jail. At the same time, a new round of talks are expected between the representatives of Ladakh and the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi on 29 September.

Lab and KDA Dailing will be available from Home Ministry officials

A seven -member delegation of LAB and KDA will leave for Delhi to meet the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs at 12 noon. Let us know that some members will come from Jammu and most of the members will come from Leh after holding SpiceJet’s flight. These members will meet at 11 am tomorrow at Ladakh Bhavan, Chanakyapuri.

40 police and CRPF jawans have been injured in violence

Earlier on Wednesday, protesters set fire to BJP office and government buildings in Leh. Police burnt the vehicles and attacked the security forces. 40 police and CRPF personnel are also among the injured. Strict prohibition has been implemented by the administration and people are being appealed to restore peace. Police and CRPF have a huge deployment in sensitive areas of the city.

Please tell that additional security forces have been deployed in areas where violence took place. The administration has held Sonam Wangchuk responsible for provoking violence, saying that her inflammatory statements provoked the youth. Internet speed in Leh has been slowed down.

The solution will be done through dialogue

The government has said that we are committed to constitutional security to fulfill the expectations of the people of Ladakh. It was also clarified that many important decisions have been taken through negotiations. In this, reservation of scheduled tribes was increased from 45 percent to 84 percent. One-third reservation for women has been ensured in the councils.

Three days after the Leh violence, the police arrested environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk on Friday (September 26, 2025). Police arrested Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA) and sent him to Jodhpur Jail. He is accused of inciting violence. At the same time, internet service in Leh has been closed with immediate effect in view of the situation.

Sonam Wangchuk was brought to Jodhpur in Rajasthan by special aircraft after completing all formal processes at Leh Airport. After reaching Jodhpur, he was shifted to the High Security Jail Ward via tight security and many security vehicles, where Sonam Wangchuk will be under 24 -hour tight security and CCTV supervision.

According to the Leh police, on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), the police registered several FIRs against Sonam Wangchuk on charges of abetting protesters for violence, after which they were arrested on Friday (26 September).

Sonam Wangchuk started hunger strike on September 10 from 10 September

On September 10, Sonam Wangchuk started a fast to include the region in Leh city in the sixth schedule, giving state status and demanding the security of sensitive ecosystems of Ladakh region. After this, Sonam Wangchuk broke her fast on Wednesday (September 24) when a large -scale violence started in the city.

Security forces firing when the situation is uncontrollable, four protesters killed

On September 24, uncontrolled mob in Leh city pelted stones at security forces. The mob set a CRPF vehicle on fire. Not only this, there was arson in the BJP office and the top organization’s office of Leh and the DGP’s DGP’s vehicle was also damaged by the protesters. The security forces opened fire when the situation became uncontrollable, in which four protesters were killed and around 70 were injured.

Curfew in Leh and Kargil

To restore law and order, the authorities imposed curfew in Leh city. Curfew was also imposed in Kargil city in the evening of Thursday (25 September 2025). Police detained several protesters.

Home Ministry took action, Sonam Wangchuk denied allegations

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs canceled the FCRA registration certificate of Sonam Wangchuk, the founder of Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) to violate the FCRA Act.

Here, Wangchuk, who won the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2018, has denied all the allegations against him. He told reporters on Thursday (25 September) that his non-profit organization had not taken foreign donations, but has made business transactions with the United Nations, Swiss and Italian organizations and paid all taxes. Wangchuk said, ‘The central government considered it a foreign donation. I consider it a mistake of them and so I have no objection to it.

Government claims- external forces in the region encouraged violence

The police have registered an FIR against some Nepali citizens and those of Doda city of Jammu region who were involved in violence. Now he is hospitalized to treat injuries involved in the action of security forces. When Ladakh was made a union territory in 2019, this decision of the Center was widely welcomed and Sonam Wangchuk was at the forefront of that reception. Later, he led the protest against the Center for inclusion in the Sixth Schedule, state status and other demands. The central government believes that a large -scale violence in a very peaceful border area of Ladakh has not been spontaneous, but has been provoked by outsiders to create unrest in this peaceful area.

Also read: Erdogan had raised the issue of Kashmir in UN, now India has heard a lot, fiercely lashed

The reason for social media ban
The government banned 26 social media platforms because these platforms were not registering under local rules. These include large platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Redit. The government had given the time limit to the companies to register, appoint Grievance Redressal Officers, and to form a contact point.

Status so far
The demonstrations have spread rapidly in other major cities of Nepal. The government claims that the decision to remove the ban will be taken only when these platforms follow the rules. At the same time, protesters are calling it an attack on freedom of expression and demanding to withdraw it.

Nepal Political Crisis: There is a rapid demand to bring the monarchy again in Nepal. It is being demonstrated for this. Due to this violence erupted, in which one person died and many people were injured. Amid increasing tension, the Ministry of Home Affairs has called an emergency meeting with the security heads to handle the situation.

In many areas of Kathmandu, there were violent clashes between the monarchy and security forces. The protesters tried to break the police barricades, in response to which security forces used tear gas. Meanwhile, a corsal complex, shopping mall, headquarters of a political party and a media house building were set on fire, injuring more than 12 policemen.

What is the Nepal government’s response?
Due to this increasing performance and violence, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an emergency cabinet meeting. The main objective of the meeting is to discuss the incidents of violence and arson in Kathmandu. According to media reports, the government is considering the former King Gyanendra Shah responsible for this violence and his arrest. According to a minister in the cabinet, knowing the opinion of security heads regarding the arrest of Gyanendra Shah and assessing the possible results is being discussed.

Airport shutdown and impact on flights
The Tribhuvan International Airport had to temporarily shut down due to violence in Kathmandu. Several flights were diverted to India, including Bangkok to Air Asia, Dhaka to Bangladesh Airlines, Dubai from Dubai and Seoul to Korean Air. Apart from this, flights of Qatar Airways, Fly Dubai and Batik Air have also been stopped.

Why did the demand for monarchy arise?
In 2008, Nepal ended the monarchy and established a secular, federal, democratic republic. However, recently the demand for restoration of monarchy is increasing rapidly. The main reason for this is political corruption, economic instability, and increasing resentment towards repeated changes of governments.

Former King Gyanendra Shah’s appeal to support public
Former King Gyanendra Shah had appealed to the public on the occasion of democracy on February 19, which further intensified this movement. After this, on his return from his religious journey, thousands of supporters welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport. The protesters raised slogans like “Raja come back, save the country”, showing that support for the monarchy is still deep.

Monarchy support is increasing
Political analysts believe that a strong movement is taking shape to demand the restoration of Hindu monarchy in Nepal. The main reason for this is the increasing resentment towards corruption, economic decline, and political instability in the public. Since 2008, 13 governments have changed in Nepal, but political stability has not come.
