Phishing Crime: In today’s times, the methods of cyber crime are changing rapidly and common people often fall prey to it. Recently, CBI has busted one such big phishing crime network. Which used to provide phishing message service to cyber criminals. Through this gang, people were being cheated by luring them with fake loans, investments and benefits.

The investigating agency has arrested three operatives in this case. An active system came to light during the raids conducted in Delhi, Noida and Chandigarh. Due to which phishing messages were being sent on a large scale. Huge cash, cryptocurrency and many digital evidence were also recovered from here. After this action, many questions are arising in the minds of people regarding phishing crime. After all, what is this phishing crime? Let us tell you.

What is phishing crime?

Phishing crime is a method of cyber fraud in which criminals send messages or emails to people pretending to be banks, companies or government agencies. These messages promise fake loans, rewards, investments or account updates. As soon as a person clicks on the given link or shares his personal information. Criminals steal his data.

After this, it becomes easy to empty the bank account, take fake loan or commit digital fraud. CBI investigation revealed that thousands of SIM cards were being used in this network. So that fake messages can be sent to a large number of people simultaneously. This entire system was being controlled with the help of technology. Due to which the identity of the criminals remained hidden.

What was revealed in the CBI investigation

In the initial investigation, CBI identified about 21 thousand SIM cards which were obtained fraudulently by violating the rules. Investigation also revealed that channel partners of some telecom companies and their employees arranged for these SIM cards illegally. These SIM cards were controlled through an online platform. Due to which phishing messages were sent on a large scale.

According to CBI, private firm Bhagwan Mahavir Services India Private Limited was operating this entire system. Through this platform, cyber criminals were cheating people across the country by sending fake messages. This case shows that phishing crime is now working as an organized network. Due to which it has become more important than ever to be cautious.

Online Fraud: Nowadays scammers are adopting various tactics to cheat people. One of these is digital arrest fraud. In this, the person is threatened with arrest online and in this way money is extorted from him. Something similar happened recently with an 84-year-old retired government officer and his wife. However, by taking appropriate steps in time, both of them were saved from losing Rs 1.50 crore. The matter is of Ahmedabad.

first threatened by calling

This elderly couple living here received a call on WhatsApp, in which the scammer introduced himself as a Court Liaison Officer. He told that his name is Pradeep Kumar. To lure the elderly person, the scammer told that he had received the news from one of his relatives that his name has cropped up in a money laundering case related to a private airline, hence he will have to appear in the online court. The caller also instructed both the husband and wife not to leave the house or allow anyone inside.

Video call also came

Every effort was made to ensure that the elderly couple did not have any suspicion from anywhere. He also received a video call from the scammers, in which a court-like background was shown, where a hearing was seen taking place. A man was sitting on the screen as a judge. Apart from this, a prosecutor and staff were also seen. The person pretending to be a judge claimed to have opened 227 accounts in the name of the couple and started interrogating them about it. When the couple refused, they were warned that they would face trouble if they did not cooperate.

Elderly people scared of digital arrest

Then the callers told him about being ‘digitally arrested’. During this time the old man was asked to remain sitting in front of the phone, while the woman was asked to transfer money. A relative of the couple also helped the scammers in this task, who explained to the couple, “The callers told them that they will have to verify all the money they currently have and only then they will be acquitted of the charges. Since they did not use online banking, they were asked to go to the bank for RTGS transfer.”

This is how the truth was revealed

On December 9, the woman went to the bank and transferred Rs 21 lakh to the scammers’ account. They thought that the money would be sent back to their account after verification. On the second day he transferred another Rs 21 lakh. He also had Rs 1.5 crore in another account. He got this money after selling a property. The scammers also asked for this money and said that if they did not transfer the money, they would be sued and would be fined heavily. Scared, she went to the bank to transfer the entire amount.

The manager found all this strange and he went to a police officer present in the bank to investigate. After this, the police went with the woman to her house, where they saw the woman’s elderly husband talking to several men on video call. When he told the people on the call that he was from the police, they immediately disconnected the call. He then told the couple that they had been cheated and advised them to go to the cybercrime helpline. The couple lodged a complaint on the National Cybercrime Portal. FIR is yet to be registered in this case.

‘Sanchar Sathi’ app is a digital security app of the Department of Telecommunication (DOT), which has worked to crack down on the crime of mobile theft in India. Sanchar Saathi app has achieved great success in tracking and recovering lost or stolen mobile phones in India. Through this app, about 7 lakh mobile phones have been recovered and handed over to their owners in 2 years. This app was launched in March 2023. Its performance has been very excellent.

How does ‘Sanchar Sathi’ app work?

Sanchar Sathi app or portal is being run by the Department of Telecommunication (DOT). Which is a completely safe app. DOT has also requested every citizen of India to install this app (Sanchar Saathi) in their mobile phones.

With the help of Sanchar Sathi app, if your phone is stolen or lost, then that mobile phone can be recovered or tracked.

When any stolen or lost mobile phone is reported on the app, its IMEI or details are recorded. If a thief tries to use the same phone with a different SIM or a new number, the system alerts, thereby “blacklisting” the phone and preventing it from being misused.

If any citizen buys a new or second hand mobile phone, then through this app you will know whether this mobile phone is stolen or blacklisted.

How many mobile phones have been received from Sanchar Sathi app so far?

Sanchar Sathi app/portal was launched by the Ministry of Telecommunication, Government of India in May 2023. This year, in the month of October 2025, approximately 50,000+ mobile phones have been recovered. If we talk about the year 2023 till now, 7 lakh mobile phones have been recovered, and their stolen or lost phones have been handed over to the mobile owners.

Maximum number of mobile phones have been recovered through the app in Telangana and Karnataka. The number of mobile phones recovered in both the states is more than one lakh each. Till now, 12.38 lakh WhatsApp accounts related to cyber crime have also been closed through this app.

Chakshu Reporting of Suspected Fraud Communication (SFC): If a citizen receives fraudulent phone calls, they can be tracked and stopped using this feature.

Identification of all mobile connections issued in their name: Citizens can identify and manage all mobile connections issued in their name, ensuring that no one is using them without permission.

Know whether the mobile phone is stolen or not: Checking the genuineness (IMEI validity) of new or old phones so as not to buy stolen or blacklisted phones.

Haryana DGP O.P. On December 1, 2025, Singh conducted a surprise visit to Gurugram Police Station Cyber Crime East, where he put himself in the role of a “digital arrest” victim and examined the response process, support system and technical capacity of the police.

This inspection is being considered very important for the purpose of cyber crime prevention, quick relief to the victims and fixing the responsibility of the banks. The DGP clarified that Haryana Police will now adopt a more aggressive, strategic and innovative approach to deal with cyber crimes.

Major decisions regarding cyber crime control

During the inspection, the DGP directed the officials to take prompt action on cyber complaints and ensure immediate recovery of small financial losses. He said that in cases of bank freezing of small amounts, the victims will be given quick financial relief by involving Lok Adalat.

He said that if the negligence of the bank is proved, the bank will have to compensate for the financial loss. Cases causing delay in disposal of complaints will be strictly reviewed. With each complaint lodged, tracking status and support will be provided to the victim.

He said that “Haryana Police aims to make cyber fraud difficult and make the police process citizen-friendly.” During the inspection, he also thoroughly examined the response system, data handling and follow-up structure of the police station.

Appeal to beware of cyber fraud

DGP OP While talking to the media, Singh said that most of the cyber crimes are committed by creating greed or fear in the minds of people, hence vigilance is the biggest weapon. He stressed that if someone asks to send money in the name of earnings, award, government order, police action or any kind of pressure, then understand that fraud is taking place.

If you open a suspicious call, link, website or app, be alert immediately. Verify before making any payment and do not trust messages from unknown sources. If you face cyber crime, lodge a complaint on helpline 1930. DGP warned citizens that in the digital age, fraudsters are constantly adopting new methods, hence security is not possible without awareness.

Preparation of “Cyber Awareness Ambassador” in schools and colleges

Haryana Police is working on a plan to make cyber security a mass movement in the state, under which “cyber awareness ambassadors” are being prepared in schools and colleges. The role of these students will be to spread safety messages in every home, society and on digital platforms.

Youth will be trained to identify and prevent cyber crimes. Awareness campaign will be run widely on social media. Partnership between police, educational institutions and citizens will be strengthened.

The DGP assured that Haryana Police will continue its efforts to provide justice to the victims, increase technological infrastructure and ensure digital security across the state. He said that along with police action, public vigilance is equally necessary in the fight against cyber crime.

If the Central Government implements these two steps, then the identity and location of every phone will no longer be foreign but will become completely Indian. If this change is implemented then every fraud from stolen phone to fake IMEI will now be caught within minutes. The need of the hour is to make Sanchar Saathi and NavIC the default in the phone.

The Government of India is continuously working rapidly on major changes in digital security. There are many steps related to digital security which the country needs at this time. The first of which is to make Sanchar Saathi the default app in every new smartphone and the second is to make India’s indigenous GPS NavIC mandatory in all phones, but looking at the current cyber environment, this does not seem to be just a government preparation. This is a step which has now become mandatory for the security of the country.

What is Sanchar Saathi?

Sanchar Saathi- Actually, it is the most direct and quickest weapon against cyber crime. Making Sanchar Saathi the default on every phone will be a direct attack on mobile fraud and cyber crime. Stolen phones, changed IMEI and fake mobile connections have created a huge network of cyber crime in India.

In such a situation, the communication partner being in the phone by default means that the stolen phone will go out of the network as soon as it is switched on. There will be a huge reduction in fraud calls, WhatsApp scams, UPI fraud. Apart from this, police and agencies will get help in real-time tracking. Fake mobile connections will be automatically identified.

What will change with NavIC?

NavIC- Time to free location data from foreign systems. Till now India has been dependent on American GPS, but in changing times, location data has become not a convenience but a part of national security. It is important to make NavIC the default so that the location data remains in India’s system and does not go abroad. Police, army and disaster agencies will get meter-level accuracy. Drones, delivery, transport and every sector will get reliable location.

Digital sovereignty will be strengthened

This will strengthen the digital sovereignty of the country. From users to national security, defaulting to NavIC is a long-term safety plan. Both steps together will take India’s digital security to a new level. If both Sanchar Sathi and NavIC become default, the benefits to India will increase manifold. For example, the entire market of stolen phones will end. Reduction in cyber fraud by 50–70%, location of criminals can be traced within minutes and dependence on foreign GPS or foreign companies will end.

India will have 100% control over digital security. This step is not just a technology improvement, but a decision to strengthen India’s digital boundaries, but with big changes will also come some big threats. Like new questions on privacy, having a default app can increase the concern of surveillance. Brands like Apple, Samsung may object to such rules. Apart from this, phones can also be expensive.

Every day cyber thugs are making people their victims in different ways. In Jehanabad, Bihar, a retired doctor was defrauded of Rs 27 lakh 30 thousand by pretending to be an accused in the Delhi blasts. Cyber thugs, posing as officers of Mumbai Crime Branch and ATS, digitally arrested Dr. Arun Kumar and defrauded him of Rs 27 lakh 30 thousand in three days. The incident took place in East Gandhi Maidan locality of Nagar police station area.

Dr. Arun Kumar, resident of East Gandhi Maidan, received a call from an unknown number on his mobile. When the wife picked up the phone, the caller said that she needed to have an important talk with Dr. Arun. After this, when the doctor talked, the person in front introduced himself as an officer of Mumbai ATS branch. Said that an account has been opened in his name in Canara Bank of Jammu and Kashmir, in which a transaction of Rs 3.5 crore has taken place in the purchase and sale of RDX during the Delhi blasts. The doctor got scared after hearing this.

‘…then will be arrested’

The thugs warned that if they did not cooperate they would be immediately arrested. After this the doctor was made to talk to an alleged DCP. He proved himself to be a police officer on the call. Said that the doctor’s name has been linked to the Delhi bomb blast case. It was said that to prevent arrest, anticipatory bail would have to be taken. For this, first Rs 3 lakh will have to be deposited towards court expenses.

The fraud took place between 25 and 28 November

The doctor was told that until the case is cleared, he will not talk to anyone, will not go out and will remain in touch all the time. The thugs called it digital arrest. During this time the doctors were scared. Fearing arrest, he made big transactions through RTGS from his account thrice between 25 and 28 November. First time 2 lakh 30 thousand, second time 22 lakh and finally 3 lakh were sent. When the swindlers again asked for Rs 3 lakh more, the doctor had no money left.

When the doctor called a relative, it was revealed that he had become a victim of cyber fraud. Immediately lodged a complaint on Cyber Cell’s toll free number 1930. Reached the cyber police station and gave a written application. The disappointed doctor has refused to talk to the media. Jehanabad’s Cyber DSP Krishna Gopal has appealed to the people to immediately inform on 1930 if they receive a call from any government department, police, crime branch or court, who are claiming to be from any government department, or who are creating threatening pressure. It also said that do not send money to unknown accounts under any circumstances.

These days, Black Friday sale is going on on almost every e-commerce platform. During this period, goods become very cheap and people do a lot of shopping. Seeing this, scammers also become active and they try to defraud people through fake websites or other means. Recently, more than 2,000 real looking fake websites have been detected, where people were being looted of money by luring them with sales. In such a situation, there is a need to be cautious while shopping online. Today we are going to tell you tips to stay safe while online shopping.

Shop only from trusted websites

For online shopping, always go to a trusted website only. Avoid shopping on any new or suspicious looking website due to the lure of links received in messages or attractive offers seen on social media.

Look for the lock icon in the URL

If you have doubts about any website, always check its URL carefully. There will be no spelling mistake in the URL of the original website and a lock icon will also be visible in it. The lock icon means that the site has Secure Sockets Layer encryption, making your data more secure than an unencrypted site.

Do not shop with debit card

Use only mobile payment app or credit card for online shopping. Never shop with debit card. If the debit card gets compromised then cyber criminals will get all the details of your bank account, due to which you will have to suffer huge loss.

Don’t shop on public Wi-Fi

If you are at a cafe, railway station or airport and using public Wi-Fi, then avoid online shopping. The reason for this is that public Wi-Fi has less security and the transactions done through it can be hacked. Therefore, always shop through a secured connection.

Read this also-

Creators are busy, now they will get more reach, Instagram brought this powerful feature

These days, there is a lot of buzz about Black Friday sale on the internet. Every e-commerce platform is giving huge discounts in this sale and people are also doing a lot of shopping. If you are also clicking on the Black Friday Sale banner on the internet, then you need to be a little careful. In fact, a cyber security company named CloudSEK has found that there are more than 2000 fake websites on the Internet imitating companies like Amazon, Samsung and Apple, which are luring customers in the name of sales and stealing their data and payment information.

The biggest phishing network in recent years

According to the CloudSEK report, cybercriminals are running the largest phishing ecosystem in recent years. These fake websites have been designed to look absolutely real. These display festive sale banners, countdown clocks, fake trust badges and pop-ups with recent purchases, so that customers can reach the payment page without thinking too much. As soon as the customer reaches the checkout page after selecting the item, their information is stolen and they are redirected to a payment portal controlled by the hacker. Many customers pay here in a hurry and this money reaches the hackers. Cyber criminals have created these fake websites in the name of big companies like Apple, Cisco, Logitech, Toshiba, Xiaomi and Ray-Ban.

How to avoid such scams?

To avoid such scams, do not click on tempting advertisements seen on social media.

Check the website URL carefully before starting shopping. If there is spelling mistake in it then do not shop from here.

Be alert if the checkout page of any site redirects to a suspicious website.

Giving an important order on Thursday (November 27, 2025), the Delhi High Court said that the Reserve Bank of India and all banks will have to strengthen the process of customer complaint handling so that people can be saved from unnecessary troubles. Justice Prabha M. Singh said that it is the responsibility of banks, financial institutions and regulators to create such systems that frauds are stopped, strict action is taken against the culprits and innocent customers do not have to face false bills, threatening messages or constant calls.

Complete investigation of customer’s complaint – Delhi High Court

Delhi High Court directed RBI not to reject complaints only on the basis of machine based process. If a customer makes a mistake while filing a complaint, he should be given a chance to correct it. The court said that many times, due to the Ombudsman rejecting the complaints without any human intervention, people are forced to file cases in consumer forums, civil courts and the High Court. The court also said that if necessary, trained legal experts like retired judges or experienced lawyers should be included in the Ombudsman office so that complaints are not dismissed due to small mistakes.

Delhi High Court RBI Ordered to issue instructions to all banks

Delhi High Court directed that RBI should issue orders to all banks to post a simple flow chart on their websites, explaining how customers can raise complaints to customer care, branch manager and nodal officer.

Delhi High Court took action on lawyer’s complaint

This order of the Delhi High Court came during the hearing on a case in which a lawyer named Sarwar Raza was harassed for making payment for a credit card transaction which he had never done. Later the bank returned his amount of Rs 76,777, but as soon as the complaint was closed, interest and penalty were added to it.

The court said that the bank will no longer charge them any late fees or interest and their CIBIL score will also not be harmed. Also, for harassing the customer, the bank has been ordered to pay compensation of Rs 1 lakh, which will have to be paid by January 15, 2026.

Google Chrome is the most used web browser in the world. If you also use it then you need to be cautious. Google has detected a new zero-day flaw in it. This security flaw has been labeled CVE-2025-13223 and is affecting older Chrome versions. Cyber attackers have tried to take advantage of this flaw. In view of this, Google has released a security patch and has asked users to update Chrome as soon as possible.

Where was the security flaw found?

This bug has been found in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine, due to which this browser misreads some types of data during execution. This can cause memory corruption, taking advantage of which attackers can run malicious code on the targeted device. Google said that even before it discovered this flaw, attackers had tried to take advantage of it. Google’s Threat Analysis Group detected this bug on November 12. This is the seventh zero-day flaw of this year. This means that this has happened seven times in 2025, when hackers have come to know about a bug before Google.

Google rolled out the update

Google is constantly working to strengthen the security of Chrome and has released a security patch for this bug as well. It is being rolled out for users. If you see any update pending in Chrome, then install it immediately. To protect against such security vulnerabilities and increasing cyber attacks, it is advised to update Chrome and other apps regularly.
