Odisha Bank Case: The controversy escalated after the incident of a tribal man taking his sister’s skeleton to the bank in Keonjhar district of Odisha. In this matter, the bank has now given clarification saying that they had never demanded to bring the deceased account holder physically.

According to the bank, a person named Jitu Munda had reached the branch for the first time to withdraw money from the account of his sister Kalara Munda. The bank officials told him that no third person is allowed to withdraw money from the account without proper permission.

When he told that the account holder had died, the branch manager explained that in such cases it is mandatory to submit death certificate and other necessary documents to withdraw the money. According to the bank, the man later returned allegedly in an inebriated state and started creating ruckus in the branch. After this, he brought the alleged skeletal remains of his sister and kept them outside the bank and started demanding withdrawal of money.

This incident created a tense situation in the bank premises, after which the local police was immediately informed. The entire matter was handled in the presence of police. The bank says that this incident happened due to lack of information about the claims settlement process and non-compliance with the rules. The bank has denied allegations of any kind of misbehavior or harassment.

The bank said that the rules were followed only for the purpose of keeping the account holder’s money safe. Also, the process of issuing death certificate is going on in collaboration with the local administration, after which the claim will be settled on priority basis.
