Suddenly a torrent of water came from the hill near Maneri on Gangotri National Highway with such force that within no time a huge waterfall was formed there. The highway was blocked for some time and traffic came to a standstill.

A sudden storm wreaked havoc in the Dobra-Chati area of ​​Tehri Lake on Saturday evening. The floating hutments built on the lake were hit by the storm. Some were badly damaged, some were washed away in water. About 25 to 30 tourists got trapped in the lake area in this accident. The SDRF team showed promptness and evacuated everyone safely. It is a matter of relief that there was no loss of life in this rescue operation.

Heavy hailstorm occurred in Haldwani, Kotbag, Kaladhungi and Khurpatal of Nainital district in the early morning. There are reports of damage to crops and gardens. The storm that hit Almora late Saturday evening created chaos in the city. The railing of the Municipal Corporation building collapsed and many two-wheelers were damaged. It rained with strong winds in Haridwar, while light drizzle was recorded in Khatima of Udham Singh Nagar.

Meteorological Center Dehradun has issued a yellow alert for the entire state. Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh have been declared particularly sensitive for the next 24 hours. There is a possibility of heavy snowfall and thunderstorm with thunder in the Himalayan areas at an altitude of 4,000 meters or more. Strong gusty winds at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour are expected in both the plains and hilly areas.

The weather will remain bad in the entire state on May 4. There are chances of light to moderate rain and snowfall in high altitude areas. Rain will continue in the hilly districts on May 5. Cold may increase once again. By May 6, the weather will gradually become normal, but there will be a possibility of sporadic rain and thunder. The maximum temperature in Dehradun is expected to be around 33°C and minimum 20°C.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to the common citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially tourists in hilly areas have been advised to remain alert and follow the instructions of the local administration.
