If pollution increases in Delhi, parking will also become expensive. As soon as GRAP-III and IV appear, you will have to pay double the fee. In view of the increasing air pollution in Delhi, the government has taken this big decision. According to the notification of the Environment Department, whenever Phase-III (Serious) and Phase-IV (Very Critical) of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will be implemented in the capital, then double the fee for parking vehicles will be charged at all the parking spots in the city.

Metro parking lot will get discount

Vehicle parking charges will be doubled at all authorized parking spots. This order was issued under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Its objective is to reduce the use of private vehicles and promote public transport. PM2.5 and PM10 pollution levels should be controlled. However, park-and-ride parking lots of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will remain completely exempted.

The order comes into force with immediate effect.

Municipal Corporations, local bodies and parking agencies have been instructed to ensure strict compliance. Provision for punitive action has been made under Section 15 for violation. The order has come into effect with immediate effect.

On the other hand, CAQM told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that vehicular pollution is most responsible for air pollution in Delhi-NCR. Along with this, the Commission recommended long-term measures to improve the deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI).

Phasing out polluting vehicles from Delhi-NCR in a time bound manner on the basis of emission capacity.

Strengthening PUC (Pollution Under Control) 2.0 and monitoring vehicles plying on the road through remote sensing devices.

Expanding regional rail transport and metro rail network with more routes and stations in Delhi and NCR.

Developing multi-modal transport hubs connecting metro and regional rapid transit systems.

Ensuring connectivity through real time passenger information system with destination-based public transport tracking.

To review and amend the relevant electric vehicle policies to accelerate the process of converting all vehicles to zero emission vehicles in Delhi-NCR. To give more incentive to the owners of old vehicles for sending them to scrap.

Rapid expansion of electric vehicle charging stations, including battery swapping stations, in line with the increasing number of vehicles.

Augmentation of urban public bus service through e-buses/CNG as per model standards and service level norms of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs based on population.

To develop a plan for CNG/LNG fuel network in NCR and on highways, so that long distance vehicles and other commercial vehicles can be run on gas.

Toll should be collected while ensuring multi-lane uninterrupted traffic by installing ANPR cameras and automated RFID at all entry points into Delhi.

To implement Integrated Traffic Management System for smooth and better traffic movement in Delhi and other major urban areas, especially Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat.

Implementing parking area management schemes in Delhi and NCR.

Increasing environmental protection fees.
