Delhi is currently struggling with a serious flood crisis. The water level of the Yamuna river was recorded at 205.91 meters on 6 September 2025, which is 0.58 meters above the danger mark (205.33 m). This means that the water of Yamuna has crossed the danger limit and water has been filled in many low -lying areas. The report of the Central Water Commission states that Yamuna is still in the Severe Flood Situation.

The situation in many parts of the capital like Mayur Vihar, Kashmiri Gate, Akshardham, Uttam Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Mukherjee Nagar is worrying. People have been kept in temporary shelter by putting tents in many areas along the banks of Yamuna. More than 70 families are now living in tents on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Talking about rain, this year, Delhi has received 52 percent more rainfall than average, due to which the water level of Yamuna is continuously increasing. In such a situation, let us tell you what to do if you have flood water near your house too.

What to do if you have come near your house?

In many areas of Delhi, water has entered inside the houses. Especially in places which are in low -lying areas or near drains. If you also live in such an area, then some important steps and helpline numbers can be useful for you.

1. If you have started filling water in your house, then immediately shift with the family to a high and safe place.

2. If there is water in the house, then turn off the electrical equipment and cut the power supply from the main switch, so that there is no risk of current.

3. Keep your essential medicines, identity cards (Aadhaar, PAN etc.), mobile charger, power bank, some clothes and food and drink in advance in a bag.

4. Due to filling water, mosquitoes increase, due to which there is a risk of diseases. In such a situation, use mosquito nets and keep the body covered.

These are the helpline numbers to help in Delhi flood conditions

1. If you are trapped in a disaster like floods, or someone needs immediate relief and rescue, then call the Delhi government’s disaster management helpline 1077. This is a 24×7 helpline, that is, you can call it at any time. Whether someone needs a temporary shelter, needs food and water, or a rescue operation at some place, help can be found by calling this number.

2. If your area is flooded, sewer overflowing, or water drainage has stopped, then you can call the helpline of Delhi Jal Board 1916. This helpline is for problems like waterlogging, sewerage blockage, and tank overflow. After calling, you will get a reference number through SMS, so that you can track what action is being taken on your complaint. If you want, you can also download the mobile app of Delhi Jal Board, from where you can file a complaint and follow-up.

3. If there is waterlogging in your area, the road is broken, the drains are open, the garbage is not being cleaned, or the street light is not working, then you can register all these complaints by calling 311. The number 311 acts like a complaint portal, from where your complaint is delivered to NDMC, MCD, PWD, Jal Board or concerned department. Apart from this, some municipal corporations also have 311 apps, from which you can send a photo and complain.

Also read: Emergency is not done at home, no time to buy tickets; How can you travel to train?

The water level of Yamuna in Delhi is continuously increasing. The water level of Yamuna on the old railway bridge on the morning of Thursday (4 September) was 207.47 meters. The water of the swollen Yamuna is continuously filling in the surrounding areas. The wall of Nigabodh Ghat is broken. Water has entered the secretariat, where the Chief Minister, cabinet ministers and major bureaucrats have offices.

Apart from this, people in Wazirabad said that they have become very upset with the flood. Everyone comes to take votes, but no one comes at the time of need.

Water also in Monastery Market, Civil Lines and Geeta Colony
The Monastery Market is completely submerged. Ring road is also flooded. The vehicles are running half -submerged and there is a long jam on the streets. Water has reached the Swami Narayan temple in Civil Lines. People have gone to the roofs due to the flooding of the temple premises. In the Gita Colony, flood -like conditions have been created in Yamuna. The crematorium is also not untouched.

Relief camp also submerged
The areas around Vasudev Ghat have also been flooded. Some low-lying areas like Mayur Vihar Phase-1 have also been flooded. Even relief camps built there are submerged. Areas like Yamuna Bazaar along with Monastery Market are still submerged. Residents hope that water will decrease and normal condition will be restored.

Flood water has also reached the Hanuman Baba temple with Shri Marghat near Kashmiri Gate. A devotee said, “Every year when the water level of Yamuna rises, it leads to a bath of Lord Hanuman. This is holy water. We respect it. ”

Big loss in cremation ghats
Sanjay Sharma, head of Geeta Colony crematorium, claimed, “Water entered the crematorium in 2023 and today the water has been flooded for about 10 feet again. The damage is very big because all the wood outside has been wasted. We are not getting any help from the administration. “Why some cremation ghats have already been closed, so people are coming here from far and wide.

The effect of Yamuna floods is also seen in Mathura, Agra and Aligarh. Water has reached the villages, fields and link roads located along the Yamuna of Mahavan Tehsil and Umbrella Tehsil in Mathura, which has eliminated the connectivity of the village. Many villages in Tappal region of Aligarh have been hit by floods.

The water level of Yamuna river reached 205.75 meters on the old railway bridge in Delhi on Tuesday morning, crossing the danger mark 205.33 meters. An official gave this information. The rising water level of the river is creating a threat of floods in the low -lying areas of Delhi.

On Monday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured that the government is fully ready to deal with the situation. According to officials, the water level of the river on the old Yamuna bridge was at 205.68 meters at six in the morning, which is far above the danger mark 205.33 meters.

Flood risk increased in Delhi due to release of water from Haryana

Officials said 2.07 lakh cusecs from Hathinikund barrage, 67,260 cusecs from Wazirabad Barrage and 61,958 cusecs of water from Okhla barrage. Due to excess water being released from the three barrages, the water level increased to 205.75 meters in the morning.

Due to the release of record amount of water from Haryana, the risk of floods in Delhi has increased, in view of which the authority is very cautious. Authorities have advised people living in the submergence area of Yamuna to move to safe places as the river water level is continuously rising and it is expected to reach a 206 meter withdrawal mark by this evening.

In Delhi Standing on Flood threat

Let me tell you, such situations were created earlier also, when water was flooded in Delhi after releasing water from Haryana. After the release of water from Hathinikund barrage in Haryana, the water level of Yamuna is continuously increasing, due to which there is a threat of floods in Delhi.

The Meteorological Department in Delhi has also predicted heavy rains and an orange alert has been issued for the capital. Earlier, such situations were created when water was flooded in many places in Delhi after releasing water from Haryana.
