How Rising Night Temperatures Increase Disease Risk: This time in many parts of the country including Delhi, the heat is taking a toll on people’s health not only during the day but also at night. Whereas earlier night time used to give relief to the body from the heat of the day, now the increasing temperature is not allowing the body to take rest even at night. Doctors and researchers believe that continuous hot nights have now started increasing serious risks like heart diseases, dehydration and stroke.

mercury crosses 45 in delhi

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in Delhi has crossed 45 degrees Celsius and the situation may become more serious in the coming days. But it is not just the bright sunlight that is a matter of concern. Experts say that the temperature not falling at night is proving to be more dangerous for the body. Normally at night the body cools itself and recovers from the stress of the day. But when the heat persists even at night, the body remains under constant pressure.

What is the harm caused by the heat at night?

Research has revealed that hot nights can increase the risk of deaths related to heart disease and stroke. A study conducted by the National Institute of Health found that when an extremely hot day is followed by an unusually hot night, the body does not get relief and the health risks increase manifold. Especially the risk of stroke and heart disease was seen to be higher.

Also read: Cough, cold, soreness and fatigue? It’s not the change in weather, it’s the deficiency in the body, read doctor’s warning

Why the problem for cities like Delhi?

Urban heat island effect is making this problem more serious in big cities like Delhi. Concrete buildings, little greenery and poor ventilation trap heat throughout the night. Its impact is most severe on those people who live in small houses or rooms without air conditioners. In many houses the temperature remains above 31 degrees Celsius even at night, due to which sleep is affected and the body does not get adequate rest.

Why is the problem increasing in Delhi?

The number of patients suffering from heat related diseases is also increasing rapidly in the hospitals of Delhi. According to Dr. Arvind Kumar Aggarwal, the number of patients with dehydration, heat exhaustion and initial symptoms of heat stroke has increased in the emergency ward. At the same time, Dr. Atul says that it is affecting children, elderly people and people suffering from heart, lung or kidney disease the most. Now doctors are not only advising to avoid sunlight during the day, but also to keep the body cool and hydrated at night. The World Health Organization has also included heat among the world’s biggest environmental health threats.

Heat Wave Alert: The heat is now becoming severe across the country. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning saying that in the coming days, a severe heat wave is going to hit many parts of North and Central India including Delhi. Due to continuously rising temperatures, crores of people may have to face scorching heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, heat wave conditions may persist in many parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Konkan-Goa till May 22.

Mercury can reach 45 degrees in Delhi

IMD has said that the temperature of Delhi may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next three days. There is a possibility of partly cloudy sky, thunderstorms and strong winds at a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour in the capital on Sunday. At some places the wind speed can reach 40 kilometers per hour.

The maximum temperature on Sunday is expected to be around 44 degrees Celsius. After this, as soon as the sky clears, the temperature may reach 45 degrees Celsius in the next week. There is less possibility of getting relief from hot winds even at night.

Temperature will increase rapidly in North and Central India

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature is increasing rapidly in North and Central India. The temperature in the western Himalayan regions may also increase by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. Skymet Weather President Mahesh Palawat said that instead of eastern winds, now north-western winds are blowing, which are coming from central Pakistan and Rajasthan. These winds are extremely hot and dry, due to which the temperature will increase further in the coming days and the possibility of heatwave has become stronger.

Heatwave alert will continue in these states

According to IMD, heat wave may continue in Rajasthan from 17 to 23 May. At the same time, heat wave will continue in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from 18 to 23 May. A severe heatwave warning has been issued in some parts of Uttar Pradesh between May 19 and 23. Apart from this, heatwave conditions may prevail in Telangana from 17th to 21st May. There is a possibility of severe heat in some areas of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.

Relief from rain in Northeast and South India

While North India will be scorching with scorching heat, there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in the northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Strong winds and light to moderate rain are also expected in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh of South India. Light rain may also occur in some parts of Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. It has rained in Tamil Nadu.

What is heatwave?

According to IMD, when the temperature in an area increases much more than normal, then it is declared a heatwave. In the plains, which includes Delhi, heatwave conditions are considered when the temperature is 40 degrees Celsius or more and is recorded 4.5 to 6.4 degrees above normal.

At the same time, if the temperature reaches more than 6.4 degrees above normal, then it is considered a severe heatwave. Apart from this, if the temperature reaches 45 degrees Celsius or more, a heatwave is declared, no matter what the difference is from normal temperature. Experts say that this is not just normal heat but a dangerous situation, which can prove fatal for children, elderly and people working outside.

Be careful about health

Experts have advised people to be cautious. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. People have been advised to stay at home or in the shade from 12 noon to 4 pm, drink as much water as possible and wear light cotton clothes. It has been asked to use umbrella, hat or towel while going out. Along with this, an appeal has been made to take special care of the elderly, children and people working outside.

These days Delhi is struggling with scorching heat. The heat of the sun is such that it becomes difficult to go out since morning. Heat waves are being felt on the roads and the situation becomes worse by afternoon. This extreme heat affects children the most, who go to school every day and sit in class for hours. In view of this danger, the Delhi government has taken an important decision, which is directly related to the health of children.

The government has issued new guidelines for all schools. Now children’s health will be given priority before studies. The order is clear that now a special kind of bell will ring in every school, which has been named ‘Water Bell’. This bell will ring not to end the class, but to remind the children to drink water.

In summer, children are often busy playing or studying and forget to drink water on time. This causes lack of water in the body, which is called dehydration. Many times this carelessness becomes the cause of serious problems like dizziness, vomiting, headache and heat stroke. Doctors also constantly advise that one should keep drinking water at regular intervals during summer. Keeping this in mind, the government has implemented this new system.

What are the new guidelines?

According to the new guidelines, the school bell will ring every 45 to 60 minutes. As soon as the bell rings, the teacher will give the children a break for a few minutes so that they can drink water comfortably. Schools will also have to ensure that clean and cool water is available to children. Where needed, arrangements for additional water coolers or filters will also have to be made.

The government says that in this period of scorching heat, the pressure of studies should not be so much that children ignore their health. Therefore, this system will have to be implemented compulsorily in all government and private schools. Clear instructions have been given to the school administration to strictly follow this rule.

There is a red alert like situation in Delhi these days due to heatwave. The temperature is continuously reaching around 45 degrees. In such a situation, it quickly affects the children’s body. Small children often do not pay attention even when they feel thirsty. For this reason, this ‘Water Bell’ is being considered a small but very important initiative.

Delhi weather update: In Delhi, the heat of Delhi (June 9) has made people suffer. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature may have been recorded at 43.4 degrees Celsius, but the body felt 48.9 degrees of heat. In view of this dangerous heat, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released ‘Orange Alert’.

Along with this, people have been asked to take extreme care. The minimum temperature in Delhi was 27.6 degrees and humidity levels were recorded between 48 and 25 percent, which made the heat even more scorched.

No relief will be available till June 12- IMD
The Meteorological Department says that there is a situation of heat stroke in the capital and there will be no significant relief in the weather till at least 12 June. In the next two days, the day temperature can be 44 degrees and night temperature can be around 28 degrees.

In addition, winds are expected to move at a speed of 20–30 kmph. However, experts believe that this will not provide relief from the heat. In Haryana, Chandigarh and many areas of Delhi, the temperature has reached close to 45 degrees, including Hisar, Sirsa, Rohtak and the Ayanagar areas of Delhi.

These people will have to take special care
In Delhi, he was also hot for the second consecutive night, due to which people felt trouble and tiredness in sleep. Health experts have advised to take special care to the elderly, children and people with heart or respiratory disease, as the risk of heat stroke and dehydration has increased.

However, the Meteorological Department has predicted that from June 12, there is a possibility of light rain and thunderstorms in some parts, which can provide relief for some time. Also, strong winds can also blow, whose speed can be 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

After the rain, there is a possibility of increasing humidity in Delhi, due to which people may feel uncomfortable again.

At the same time, the level of pollution also remains worrying. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 4 pm on Monday evening, which falls in the ‘poor’ category. Experts have advised that people should stay in homes in the afternoon to avoid this dangerous combination of excessive heat and pollution.
