Delhi Obesity Cases Decline In NFHS-6: The report of National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) 2023-24 has presented a worrying report regarding the health situation of Delhi. According to the report, there has been a decline in the cases of obesity in the capital, but along with this, the situation has worsened in many matters related to diabetes, malnutrition and child nutrition. Let us tell you what has been mentioned in the report and the risk of which disease is now increasing in the country’s capital.

Obesity reduced in Delhi

According to the survey, obesity has reduced among the men of Delhi. The obesity rate of men in the country’s capital has reduced from 38.0 percent in the previous NFHS-5 to 34.8 percent in NFHS-6. If we talk about women, the name of Delhi is included among the 5 states in which the cases of obesity among women have been seen less. At first sight this seems to be a positive change, but health says that the other side of the picture is more worrying. The report shows that there has been a significant increase in the number of people taking diabetes medicines. This figure has increased from 12 percent to 19 percent in women and from 14 percent to 22 percent in men. This situation is quite worrying.

Malnutrition cases also increased

Malnutrition cases have also increased in the capital. The rate of malnutrition among women increased from 10 percent to 12 percent, while among men it increased from 9 percent to 14.9 percent. Experts believe that reducing obesity does not always mean better health. Many times, weight loss can also be seen due to poor eating habits, lack of nutrition and other health problems.

Concern about children’s nutrition also

The report has also expressed serious concern regarding the nutrition of children. The number of mothers who started breastfeeding within an hour of birth has decreased from 51.2 percent to 45.1 percent. At the same time, the percentage of babies drinking only mother’s milk for six months decreased from 64.3 to 48.3. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, as it provides babies with essential nutrition and protection from diseases. The statistics related to children’s nutritional supplements are also disappointing. The rate of giving complementary food along with breastfeeding to children aged six to eight months decreased from 62.9 percent to 52.5 percent. At the same time, only 11.2 percent children between 6 to 23 months are getting minimum adequate nutrition, which was earlier 16 percent.
