The poisonous air in the capital Delhi has once again put brakes on the pace of normal life. After air pollution reached dangerous levels, the government has made important changes in the education system of schools, giving priority to the health of the students.

After increasing pollution, the Directorate issued these instructions

After the implementation of the fourth phase of GRAP in Delhi, the Directorate of Education has decided to implement hybrid education system for students up to class 9th and 11th. Under this, instructions have been given to schools to conduct offline as well as online classes wherever possible.

Instructions will be applicable from government to private schools

This order will be equally applicable to all government, aided and recognized private schools under Delhi Government. It will also be mandatory for schools under Municipal Corporation, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board to follow this.

Students will get the option of studying

In schools where the facility to conduct online classes is available, students and their parents have been given the freedom to decide whether they want to send their children to school or study online. The school management has been instructed to convey this information to the parents in time.

Officers will enter the field to monitor the orders

District and zone level officials of the Education Department have been asked to inspect the schools in their respective areas and ensure that the guidelines related to hybrid mode are strictly followed.

Fog and stagnant wind worsened the conditions

Let us tell you that on Saturday morning, dense fog was seen in many areas of Delhi. Due to very low wind speed, pollution particles remained stuck in the atmosphere, due to which the air quality index reached dangerous levels. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality was recorded in the severe category at most of the monitoring centers in the capital. AQI above 400 was recorded at about two dozen stations, which is considered very worrisome from health point of view.

The next few days will also be challenging

According to the air quality early warning system, there is little possibility of getting relief from pollution in the coming days. It is estimated that the wind conditions may remain in severe or very poor category till the weekend.

Delhi government has taken an important decision regarding the admission process in its government schools. The Directorate of Education has issued new rules to be implemented from the academic session 2026-27, under which the minimum age of a child for admission in Class 1 has now been fixed at 6 years and the maximum age at 7 years.

This change has been made in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right to Education Act 2009. The Education Department says that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the mental, emotional and social development of children, so that they are fully prepared for formal education.

Age limit fixed under new rules

In the new circular issued by the Delhi government, the age from pre-school to first class has been fixed as follows –

Nursery (Pre-School 1): 3 to 4 years

Lower KG (Pre-School 2): 4 to 5 years

Upper KG (Pre-School 3): 5 to 6 years

 Class 1: 6 to 7 years

school heads will get 1 monthly discount entitlement

The Directorate of Education said that the Head of School has been given the right to give age relaxation up to one month. That is, if the age of the child is slightly less or more than the prescribed limit, then the school head will be able to allow admission at his discretion.

Apart from this, students who are already studying in a recognized school and want to move to the next class will be exempted from the age limit, so that their studies do not get hampered.

Emphasis on transparency and equal opportunity

According to officials, this step will make the admission process more transparent and ensure equal opportunities for all children. Instructions in this regard have been issued to all government, aided and private schools.

Why was this decision taken,

According to the Education Department, the main objective of this change is to improve the educational quality of children and strengthen the level of elementary education. By the age of 6, children usually develop basic reading, writing and comprehension abilities, which improves their literacy and numeracy skills. Apart from this, this policy will also help in reducing the inequalities present in elementary education.

No effect on old students

The Directorate of Education has also clarified that currently students studying in Nursery, KG or Class 1 will be able to continue their studies as per the existing rules. The new rules will be applicable only to new admissions from session 2026-27. In this way, the Delhi government has made a major change in the early stage of education, trying to ensure that every child starts his schooling at the right age, at the right developmental level.

Delhi news: Rekha Gupta government of Delhi has taken a big decision. From the year 2025-26, there will be a section of at least one English medium in every class in all government schools. This step has been taken because many parents want their children to study in English, so that they can help them in science, technology or other high studies later.

Children will get admission in these sections on the basis of interest and merit. Schools have to be given the right books and materials to teach in English. This change will also be recorded on school records and government portals. Government officials will investigate whether the rules are being followed or not.

Government released circular
According to the circular issued by the Delhi government, at least one section in each class should be nominated as English medium. Admission to English medium section can be done on the basis of merit of students. Except for will and regional languages, all subjects will be taught in English in the specified section.

‘Monitoring officers’
It was further written in the circular that adequate teaching materials should be made available in English. This initiative is requested to monitor the implementation of the official school records of the UDISE portal and all the district and regional officials and provide the necessary assistance wherever necessary. This circular should be brought immediately to the attention of all concerned. Pre -approval of competent authority is necessary.

Delhi schools admissions: If your child is going to enroll in the first grade in the next few years, then this news is very important for you. The Delhi government has made an important change under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and it has been decided that now all the schools of the capital will get admission in the first grade, whose age will be at least six years. This change will be implemented from the academic session 2026-27 and its objective is to impart strong basic education to children in advance. This new rule will have to be followed by government, aided and private schools.

According to Dainik Jagran’s report, till now most of the schools in Delhi had only two classes nursery and KG (or UKG) and children used to get admission in the first grade at the age of about five years. But now under the new system, three-level pre-primary education has been made mandatory.

Nursery (at the age of 3)
Lower KG (at the age of 4)
Upper KG (UKG) (at the age of 5)
Only after this, the child will get admission in the first grade and by then his age should be completed six years.

What is the thinking behind change?

This decision of the Delhi government has been taken in accordance with the National Curriculum Infrastructure (NCF-FS), in which the age of 3 to 8 years is considered a “foundational stage”. In this stage, it has been said to provide sports, activity and search based education to children, so that interest and understanding about studies can be developed from the initial stages.

Director of Education Director Vedita Reddy said that before this change, the government will also seek suggestions from all the concerned parties. Teachers, guardians, school management committees and common people can send their suggestions to the schoolbranchnep@gmail.com by 10 July 2025.

Also read- How much can you get education loan for BDS? Know the important things for students

Schools will have to prepare

To implement this change, schools will need new infrastructure. According to experts, it is necessary to amend the Delhi School Education Act, 1973 for this, because it has a provision of minimum age of five years. Along with this, schools will also have to arrange trained teachers and additional classes, so that the study of foundational stage can be implemented better.
