A severe traffic jam was once again seen in the country’s national capital Delhi over the weekend. People are facing problems especially in the tourist areas of Delhi due to the huge problem of traffic jam. Delhi Traffic Police has closed Lodhi Road, due to which the road leading from Lodhi Road flyover towards Humayun Road has been closed.

Due to the problem of traffic jam at many places in Delhi, the speed of vehicles remained very slow. Vehicles were seen moving at many places. Car riders, bike riders and people riding auto rickshaws are facing a lot of problems.

Severe traffic jam in Delhi

On Sunday, there was heavy traffic jam on Oberoi flyover, Lodhi Road and the main routes around it. Long queues of vehicles were visible at many places, due to which it took a lot of time for people to cover a distance of just a few metres. Traffic police personnel are deployed at various places but the problem of traffic jams persists.

Traffic advisory for 8 to 13 December

At the same time, in view of the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Cultural Heritage at the Red Fort in Delhi from 8 to 13 December 2025, special traffic arrangements will be in force from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Restricted and possible diversion roads

Netaji Subhash Marg and Nishad Raj Marg (diversion as per need from Chhatta Rail Chowk, T-Point Subhash Marg, Shanti Van Chowk, GPO Chowk, Delhi Gate and Hanuman Mandir Crossing)

Use these parking areas

The traffic police has advised to use only designated parking areas. This includes Parade Ground, ASI Parking (Red Fort), Dangal Ground, Omaxe Mall, Church Mission Road Parking. At the same time, parking of vehicles on the roadside is prohibited.

At the same time, it has been said that pedestrians should use footpaths and designated crossings. Also, it has been advised to follow the instructions of the ground staff. Ring Road, Rajghat-ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Netaji Subhash Marg, Nishad Raj Marg, SPM Marg are expected to be affected.

There is huge traffic jam in Delhi NCR before Diwali. On Friday (17 October), the roads of Delhi came to a standstill due to traffic jams. Where the shopping spree in the markets and the huge crowd of passengers returning home completely disrupted the traffic system. The pressure was highest in the central, south, east, north-west, outer and northern outskirts, while the traffic on the Ring Road was seen moving forward at a crawl. Passengers allege that Delhi Traffic Police is nowhere to be seen.

The most heart-wrenching scene was captured on camera when two ambulances were stuck in a traffic jam for hours, one of which was carrying a four-day-old newborn who had a hole in his heart and needed to be immediately rushed to the hospital, but the sluggish traffic put his life at stake. Traffic jam in Gurugram also

There was a traffic jam in Gurugram adjacent to Delhi on Friday (17 October). Due to the festive season and weekends, everything from the highways to the city streets were packed. There was a jam on the highway for about 5 kilometers. Due to heavy traffic jam on the route from Gurugram to Delhi and from Delhi to Gurugram, vehicles were seen crawling.

What did Additional CP say regarding traffic arrangements?

On the other hand, on traffic movement and other arrangements before Diwali and other festivals, Additional CP Dinesh K Gupta said, “We have deployed our maximum staff. Our team is patrolling on motorcycles. Our officers are in the field. Officers are constantly keeping an eye on the field. We are removing vehicles parked on the road. We are issuing challans on the spot.”

Area Specific Traffic Plan

He also said, “We are issuing maximum challans through our challan app so that people do not park their vehicles at the wrong place. In main markets like Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Connaught Place, we have made area specific traffic plans for these areas. We have also installed parking facilities.

The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 is starting from Saturday (02 August) at Arun Jaitley Stadium (Feroz Shah Kotla Maidan) in the national capital, which will continue till 31 August. Day-night matches will be played during the league. A large number of spectators can reach the stadium to see this. In view of this, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced some important traffic ban and route changes.

According to this advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic arrangements have been made around the stadium and the main routes during the matches to ensure the safety and convenience of the audience. People have been appealed to use public transport during this period and if not necessary, avoid the routes near the stadium, so that the traffic remains easy.

Changes made on these main routes

● There will be a change in the direction of traffic on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and JLN route.
● There will be a complete ban on the movement of heavy vehicles from Dariyaganj to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road.
● Banned routes have also been made on the restricted routes from Rajghat to R/A Kamla Market via R/A Kamla Market, Turkman Gate to Delhi Gate, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg from Delhi Gate to Ramcharan Aggarwal Chowk.

Entry and parking for the audience

Various gates have been set for entry in the stadium:

• Gate number 1 to 8: The southern part of the stadium is located and the entry from these gates will be from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
• Gate numbers 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15: The eastern part of the stadium is located in the eastern part of the stadium, and the entry from these gates will be from JLN route near the Ambedkar Stadium bus terminal.
• Gate numbers 16, 17 and 18: The western part of the stadium is located and the entry from these gates will be from the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg near the petrol pump.

Parking facilities

Parking space near the stadium will be limited. Only labeled vehicles will get admission at the prescribed parking sites. Parking P1-Gate No. 3 is located in front of JP Park, P2-Vikram Nagar Parking, near Shaheedi Park and near JGB/Prayer Office for P3-two-wheelers. Apart from this, free parking facility will be available on Mata Sundari Road, Rajghat Power House Road, and Valdrome Road.

Parking forbidden on these roads

The park of vehicles will be prohibited from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg and Ring Road (from Rajghat to IP flyover). If any driver parks vehicles on these routes, then legal action will be taken against the vehicle and legal action will also be taken against him.

Taxi pick and drop points

During the match, special picks and drop points have been fixed for app-based services like auto-rickshaws and cabs, which are located at Gate No. 2 at Maulana Azad Medical College, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg (on Delhi Gate Carriageway) and Rajghat Chowk.

Janakpuri of West Delhi is the much talked about District Center and a unilateral flyover passing in front of it, which comes in the way from Najafgarh to Tilak Nagar, is going to start repairing Ram. Because of this, the traffic department has issued advisory for the general public. Police have said that this flyover has been completely banned on this flyover for the next one month from today (2 August).

Due to this repair work, those traveling towards West Delhi will have to face traffic diversion. The vehicles will be removed from the slip road below instead of the flyover.

The traffic police has already issued advisory for this. Also, the passengers have appealed to avoid traveling on this route from today and use alternative routes or public transport.

Flyover closed, below routes will be open
DCP (West Traffic) Dhirendra Pratap said that repairing work will be done only in the upper part of the flyover. Therefore, the paths on both sides of the flyover will be open. Work is being done by coordinating with PWD. He said that for the least inconvenience to the people, traffic police personnel and Marshal will be constantly posted on the spot.

The police have planned to install signage and indicators along with additional deployment of traffic staff in the entire area to prevent jam. Every day millions of people go through this route. In such a situation, the temporary captive of this flyover can have a direct impact on the traffic of the capital.

Appeal for cooperation from public
The traffic police has appealed to the common people to maintain restraint and cooperation. During this time, use public means like alternative routes or metro so that they do not face inconvenience.
