The year 2025 is proving to be a historic admission season for Delhi University (Delhi University – DU). All records have been broken so far in the undergraduate (UG) admission process, which started from 17 June 2025. This time the university gets the most registration and preference submissions, which shows that DU is still at number one in the country’s most reliable and popular Higher Educational Organizations.

Admission process running through CSAS

Delhi University is also processing admission through Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) this time. Students first appear in the CUET (UG) 2025 exam and then choose the colleges and courses of their choice on the CSAS portal based on its score. The purpose of CSAS is to allot students in transparent, data-operated and fair manner based on merit, priority and available seats.

DU set this record

DU Management officially stated that 3,05,357 students registered on the CSAS portal this year, which is the highest figure so far. Of these, 2,39,890 students submitted their college-collection preference.

Students selected a total of 1.68 crore unique courses-college combinations.

On an average 83 preferences were given per student.

A student filing the most preference reached 1414 preference.

In 2023, about 3 lakh students registered.

Embracing of gender and social diversity

Special care has also been taken of inclusion and diversity in the admission process of Delhi University.

The total applicants are 53% of the students and 47% students.

3 transgender students have also applied this time.

512 students have applied under orphan quota and 7243 girl students under single girl child quota.

This course is the most preferred

Talking about the popularity of the course, this year also B.Com (Honors) remains the first choice of students. This course was selected about 2 million times, which is a new record for any one course.

List of courses selected after this

B.com (Program)

BA (Hons) English

BA (Hons) Political Science

BA (Hons) History

B.Com (Hons) and Political Science have also topped the category category of first preference (first choice). This shows that in commerce and social science field, students are showing the most interest.

This is the list of top college

Talking about college, students have given priority to prestigious institutions as usual. The most liked colleges are included.

The process of admission in graduation courses at Delhi University (Delhi University – DU) is in full swing. This time too, admissions in the university are being done under the Common seat allocation system (CSAS), in which students have to select their favorite courses and college online. Many improvements have been made to make the CSAS process transparent and data-based, which aim to give students the most suitable college-colleges combination based on their merit and options.

Simulated rank released on 15 July

On the evening of 15 July 2025, DU has released simulated ranks on the dashboard of all students. This rank is based on the options that students filled on the CSAS portal till the last deadline of July 14. This time the university received more than 5.75 crore preferences, which are based on a total of 1549 unique courses-college combinations. Let us know that simulated ranks only shows which college and courses can be found on which rank students can get. They should not be considered a final. Their purpose is to give students a chance to reconsider their selection, so that they can manage their choice better before the actual allotment.

When is the last date to change the choice?

Students on the CSAS portal can update, change or re -sort their choice by 11 July 2025 at 11:59 pm. It is necessary to press the Save button after every small change, otherwise the changes will not be valid. This option gives students the last chance to decide the priority of their course-college strategically.

When will CSAS’s first allotment list come?

The first allotment list of CSAS 2025 will be released on 19 July 2025 at 5 pm. After this, students will have to accept the colleges and courses allotted within the stipulated time. Also, the process of document verification and fee payment will also start.

ECA and Sports will also start trials for quota

This time too, DU has also included admission in the process under Extra Curricular Activities (ECA), Sports and CW (Children/Widows of Armed Forces Personnel) quota.

The ECA trials will start from 18 July 2025.

Sports trials will start from 25 July 2025.

Complete information of trials will be found on the website of the concerned college or department. Students have been advised to keep checking their email, dashboard and official website from time to time.

The college allotment under ECA, Sports and CW quota will start with the allotment list of the third round. That is, students applying in these quota will have to wait a little.

Delhi university admission form: A big controversy has arisen regarding the undergraduate admission form of Delhi University (DU). It is alleged that ‘Urdu’ has been removed from the option of ‘mother tongue’ in the registration form of the university and instead ‘Muslim’ has been included as mother tongue.

This is not only a violation of the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, but has become a matter of deep concern for many teachers and students.

What is the whole matter?
In the admission form of Delhi University, where students are usually asked their mother tongue, ‘Urdu’ is missing this time and ‘Muslim’ is shown as a language. Teachers and experts allege that this is not only wrong, but a particular community is being targeted.

Along with this, ‘Bihari’, ‘laborers’, ‘rustic’, ‘cobbler’, ‘Kurmi’ etc. have also been written in the column of mother tongue.

Professor Rudrashish Chakraborty’s statement
Rudrashish Chakraborty has reacted sharply by Rudrashish Chakraborty, Associate Professor of Kirorimal College and elected member of Duta (Delhi University Teachers’ Association). He said, “If this is madness, then it has a well-planned scheme. This step of the university is clearly communal. Removing Urdu is not just to remove one language, it is an attempt to erase the shared culture and literature that Urdu has created.”

He also said that DU officials probably believe that Urdu is only the language of Muslims, so he added ‘Muslim’ as a language instead of ‘Urdu’. This is not only ridiculous, but is an attempt to prove the country’s largest minority population ‘second’ or ‘separate’.

Linguistic mistake or deliberate lapse?
Abha Dev Habib, a DU professor and leader of teachers, said, “This form is going to be filled by more than 3 lakh students. This collapse of DU is being done in a planned manner. It is against the Constitution. Urdu is included in recognized languages in the eighth schedule of India’s Constitution. In such a situation, it can be considered against the constitution as a mother tongue.”

Professor Dev Habib further states that it is not only an insult to the language ‘Urdu’ recorded in the eighth schedule of the Constitution, but it shows a communal mentality towards the particular community. He said, does the University of Delhi not understand that Muslims also speak languages just like other people in their region? The question is arising how a central university can make such a mistake. This is not only considered ignorance, but is also seen as a deliberate communal tampering.

Rudrashish Chakraborty also said that the DU administration should first get basic information of English. He told that the correct word for ‘mother tongue’ in English is ‘Native language’, not ‘mother tongue’. ‘Mother Tongue’ is a common colloquial word, but it is wrong to write it in an official form.

This move of Delhi University has not only displeased academics, but has given rise to a big debate – has educational institutions now start discriminating in the name of languages and communities? At present, the DU administration has not given clarification about this matter.

Along with this, ‘Bihari’, ‘Chamar’, ‘Mazdoor’, ‘Dehati’, ‘Mochi’, ‘Kurmi’ etc. have also been written in the column of mother tongue.
