The maximum temperature recorded in Delhi on Saturday was 40.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.6 degrees more than normal. There was a hot and humid atmosphere in the city amid the possibility of delay in the arrival of south-west monsoon. The Meteorological Department has said that there may be very light rain with thunder in some areas of the city during the night.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy sky and rain with thunder for Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 39 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively. Data from different stations showed that the maximum temperature recorded at Palam on Saturday was 39.9 degrees Celsius, which was 0.9 degrees above normal, while the temperature at Lodhi Road was recorded at 40.1 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1 degrees above normal.

The Ridge weather station recorded a temperature of 41.1 degrees Celsius, which was 0.2 degrees above normal, and Ayanagar recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius, which was 0.8 degrees below normal. According to IMD, the minimum temperature at Safdarjung Observatory, the main center of the city, was recorded at 28.7 degrees Celsius, which was 0.7 degrees above normal.

The minimum temperature recorded in Palam was 26.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees below normal. The temperature in Lodhi Road is 27 degrees Celsius, which is one degree less than normal. The temperature in Ridge was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius which is 2.5 degrees below normal and the temperature in Ayanagar was 27.7 degrees Celsius which is 0.2 degrees below normal.

Will have to wait for monsoon till first week of July

This year, Delhi may have to wait till the first week of July for the arrival of south-west monsoon, whereas usually the moon moon hits the national capital by June 27. Weather experts say that the reason for this delay is the absence of favorable weather systems that usually help the rain-bringing winds move towards north-west India.

Delhi’s air quality in moderate category

According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category and the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 132 in the evening. According to CPCB, AQI between 0 to 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

The weather is going to take a turn once again in the capital Delhi. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert indicating the possibility of a dust storm during the next 2 to 3 hours. According to the department, dust can fly with strong winds, due to which visibility may be reduced and people may have to face problems.

Signs of changing weather are also visible in many areas of Delhi. People have been advised to remain alert in view of the possibility of dust in the sky and strong winds. Especially those riding bikes and cars have been asked to be careful.

Mayor Wahi termed the allegation of closure of MCD schools in Delhi as baseless, said – ‘AAP’s claim…’

People advised to be cautious

Meteorologists say that one should avoid leaving the house unnecessarily during a storm. Standing in open spaces, near trees and weak structures can be dangerous.

Due to strong dusty winds, there may be irritation in eyes and difficulty in breathing. The administration has also appealed to the people to stay in safe places in case of bad weather and take special care of children and the elderly.

The scorching heat increased the difficulties

On one hand there is a storm alert and on the other hand the scorching heat continues in Delhi. On Sunday, the temperature in many areas of the capital crossed 44 degrees Celsius.

Ayanagar and Ridge areas were the hottest, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, temperature was recorded at 43.8 degrees in Lodhi Road, 43.7 degrees in Palam and 43.6 degrees Celsius in Safdarjung.

Due to intense heat and heat wave-like conditions, it became difficult for people to go out throughout the day. There was less traffic on the roads in the afternoon and people were seen forced to stay in their homes to avoid the hot winds.

Delhi News: Big relief to traffic police on hot roads, special ‘AC helmet’ will keep the head cool, trial started

Take special care of health

Doctors say that in this season, dehydration in the body can occur quickly. Therefore, it is being advised to drink as much water as possible, eat light food and avoid direct sunlight. Cover your head while leaving the house and protect children and the elderly from the heat.

The Meteorological Department estimates that today it will be mainly sunny and the sky will be clear, which may later become partly cloudy. There is a possibility of change in weather with thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening. During this period, the wind speed is expected to be 15-20 km/hour and the wind speed may increase with gusts.

Advice given to children and elders to avoid the weather

In view of the fluctuations of weather in Delhi-NCR, the Meteorological Department has advised people to take some precautions. Even though the temperature will be moderate today, it can increase health risks for children, elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases. In such a situation, it has been advised to avoid direct contact with heat. Apart from this, people have been asked to wear light and loose cotton clothes. Along with this, people have also been advised to keep their heads covered.

Climate Change Impact: Every day changing weather also affects crops, farmers should make these preparations from now on

The effect of intense heat is being seen in Delhi and surrounding areas for the last several days. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning in many areas. Due to strong sunlight and hot winds in the afternoon, the possibility of impact on the health of children has increased. For this reason, parents and school management are having serious discussions regarding summer holidays.

When can summer vacation happen?

Summer vacations in Delhi schools usually start from the second or third week of May. However, this time in view of the increasing heat, there is a demand to start the holidays earlier. If the temperature continues to remain high like this then the administration may change the dates of holidays. The dates of new holidays have not been officially announced yet.

Change made in school timings

In view of the heat, school timings have been changed in some districts and many areas of NCR. Instructions have been given to open schools early in the morning and close before noon. Due to this, efforts are being made to protect children from strong sunlight and heat. Many schools have also changed the timings at their level.

Also read – Heat havoc in Odisha, premature holidays announced in all schools from April 27

Important instructions given to schools

The Education Department has given several guidelines to schools to protect them from the heat. It has been asked to make arrangements for cold water, first aid facilities and measures to protect children from sunlight in school premises. It has also been advised to limit outdoor sports activities and not send children to open fields in the afternoon.

Due to increasing heat, parents are worried about the health of their children. Many parents say that it is difficult for small children to go to school in the scorching heat. For this reason, demand is being raised on social media and at the local level to declare summer holidays early. Some parents have also suggested the option of online classes. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature may remain high in the coming days also. People have been advised to leave their homes less between 12 noon to 4 pm. Advice has also been issued to drink enough water, wear light clothes and protect from sunlight.

Everyone knows the heat of the day in India, but now there is no relief even after the sun sets. The nights have become hotter than ever before and this trend is increasing rapidly. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that except some parts of Maharashtra and Telangana, the minimum temperature is going to be above normal in the entire country. At many places the minimum temperature has increased by 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal. According to IMD, when the minimum temperature is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees above normal, it is called ‘warm night’ and more than 6.4 degrees is called ‘severe warm night’. These hot nights have now become common, but why and how? Let us understand in the explainer…

Question 1: Why is the heat increasing at night in India?

answer: Nights have now become a major part of the country’s heat crisis. There are two big reasons for this. One is global climate change and the other is increasing urbanization in cities. Concrete, asphalt and glass absorb the sun’s heat throughout the day and slowly release it at night. Tall buildings block the direction of wind, due to which heat gets trapped near the ground.

According to research reports on heat, 60 percent of the increase in night temperature in cities is due to local warming, while 40 percent is due to greenhouse gases. Along with this the humidity is also increasing. Humidity in cities in North India increased from 30-40 percent to 40-50 percent between 2012-2022.

In Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Lucknow this increase was 6-9 percent. Due to excess moisture, sweat does not dry up and the body is not able to cool down. Running the air conditioner releases more heat outside, creating a feedback loop. This problem increases further during El Nino. El Nino is developing this year, so the winter of 2026 and summer of 2027 are especially worth keeping an eye on.

The minimum night temperature in Delhi remains up to 40 degrees Celsius.

Question 2: How fast are hot nights increasing?

answer: In 2025, ScienceDirect conducted a study of 40 years between 1980-2020. According to this, hot nights have increased by 2 to 8 days every decade, especially in Northeast, North-West and Peninsular India. The 2025 district-level report of the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) says that out of 734 districts, 417 districts, or more than half, are in high or very high heat risk zones. These include Delhi, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

76 percent of the entire country’s population lives in these high risk zones. The number of hot nights has increased in big cities between 2012-2022. There have been 15 additional very hot nights every summer in Mumbai, 11 in Bengaluru, 7 each in Bhopal and Jaipur and 6 in Delhi. According to the CEEW report, hot nights are increasing faster than hot days.

The city now feels like an ‘oven’ at night. Poor urban planning, less greenery, drying water sources, increasing concrete and three landfills have increased the heat. Hot nights have increased the most in big cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi. In the Smart City Study (2001-2024), Srinagar recorded the most intense day and compound heat waves, Dahod in Gujarat recorded the most intense compound heat waves and Varanasi recorded the most intense night-time heat waves.

Question 3: Why is it said that hot nights are more dangerous than days?

answer: Medical experts say that when it is hot during the day, the body cools down and recovers at night, but this relief is not available during hot nights. This increases the risk of dehydration, poor sleep, high blood pressure, fatigue, irritability and heat-stroke. The elderly, children and heart-lung patients are most affected.

Dr. Manjusha Aggarwal of Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai says, ‘It increases the risk of dehydration, sleep problems, high blood pressure and heat related diseases. Frequent hot nights increase fatigue, irritability and persistent heat stress.

Due to hot nights, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps, dehydration and lack of sleep have become common. This can also cause loss of memory, concentration problems, anxiety and depression. Between 1998-2017, 1.66 lakh people in the world died due to heatwave. India recorded 48,000 heatstroke cases and 159 deaths in 2023, but the real number is higher.

The biggest ailment on hot nights becomes sleep problems.

Question 4: What is the impact on everyday life and economy?

answer: Working capacity is decreasing due to hot nights. According to the CSE report, India is expected to lose 5.8 percent of working hours (about 34 million full-time jobs) due to global warming by 2030. Running the AC at night increases the demand for electricity and the problem increases due to heat coming out. Laborers and outdoor workers have to endure the heat both day and night.

Question 5: So will those cool moonlit nights never return?

answer: According to a 2025 modeling study, between 2015-2100, hot nights could increase by 10 to 13 days per decade. Compound heatwaves will become more common. For safety, cool roofs, reflective pavements, more trees, better ventilation and less concrete are necessary in cities. Government and cities will have to improve urban planning. IMD is now warning about night temperatures also. Overall, if humans improve their daily routine, the environment will improve due to which cool moonlit nights can return.

These days the weather patterns are constantly changing in Delhi. Sometimes there is strong sunshine, sometimes there are clouds and rain, the reason for this fluctuation is being considered to be Western Disturbance. According to the Meteorological Department, the coming days will also be full of similar changes. Talking about the last 24 hours, the weather in the capital and surrounding areas was quite pleasant. It remained cloudy throughout the day and there was light rain, due to which the temperature dropped and people got relief from the heat.

The weather is expected to be clear today (April 1). There may be strong sunshine during the day, although light clouds will also be visible at times. There is no possibility of rain or storm today.

Temperature will increase today and tomorrow

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature will increase on 1 and 2 April. The maximum temperature can reach around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 20-21 degrees. That means people will start feeling slight heat. But on 3rd and 4th April the weather will change once again.

There is a possibility of thunderstorm and rain with strong winds in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. Due to this the temperature will drop and the maximum temperature can reach around 30 degrees.

It may rain in many parts of the country till April 10

Meteorologists say that the effect of Western Disturbance will still persist, especially in the hilly areas. Due to this, there may be intermittent rain in many parts of the country till April 10. At the same time, if we talk about pollution, the air quality in Delhi remains in the moderate category. AQI 171 has been recorded. March 2026 was the most polluted in the last four years, with an average AQI of 181.

The weather has once again taken a turn in Delhi. On the morning of 26 March, clouds have camped in the capital. The morning temperature was recorded around 20°C, while it can reach 33°C during the day. It is believed that today it will be cloudy throughout the day and there is a possibility of light rain, lightning and dust storm in some areas.

Let us tell you that after one or two days of mild heat in Delhi, this change in the weather is giving relief to the people. On March 26, winds may blow at a speed of 20 to 30 km per hour and thunder clouds may form. The minimum temperature is likely to be 18°C and the maximum temperature is 34°C, due to which both humidity and slight relief can be felt during the day.

Temperature and conditions of the previous day

The bright sunshine on Wednesday made people feel the heat. The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.5°C, 2 degrees more than normal, while the minimum temperature was 16.4°C. The humidity level in the air was recorded between 94 and 33 percent. The maximum temperature in Mungeshpur was 30°C, while the minimum temperature in Lodhi Road and Ayanagar was 15.7°C.

reason for changing weather

According to meteorologists, unusual rains are being seen this time in March. The main reason for this is the active series of western disturbances. The system active since March 15 is affecting lower altitude than normal. An area of cyclonic winds has formed in and around central Pakistan.

According to experts, there are chances of dust storm and light rain on Thursday, although it will not have much immediate impact on the temperature. There is a possibility of widespread rainfall in many parts of the country between 29th and 31st March, due to which the temperature will drop and by the end of the month the day temperature may reach around 20°C. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 183, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category. The air quality is likely to remain in this category till March 28.

As soon as the weather changed in the capital Delhi, a significant improvement in the health of the air has been recorded. Light rains and favorable weather conditions have brought down the pollution levels, which has brought great relief to the people. Due to this, the administration has removed the first phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which has happened for the first time this year.

After the rain on Sunday (15 March), Delhi’s air quality has seen continuous improvement. On Monday (March 16), the air quality index was recorded at 119, which falls in the ‘normal’ category, while it had reached 97 in the morning. For the last one week, the pollution level was gradually decreasing, due to which the air condition seemed to be moving from bad to better category.

Clear air due to weather

According to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), AQI 119 was recorded at 4 pm on March 16. Officials say that favorable weather, such as light rain and strong winds, has played an important role in reducing pollution. Also, after reviewing the forecasts of IMD and IITM, the current situation was considered satisfactory.

In view of the improvement in air quality, the restrictions imposed under GRAP Stage-1 implemented in Delhi-NCR have been removed with immediate effect. However, officials have clarified that this relief may be temporary, therefore, state governments and concerned agencies have been instructed to strictly follow all the guidelines so that pollution does not increase again.

Weather became pleasant due to light rain and wind

One day’s light rain has made the weather pleasant in the capital. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain between March 18 and 20. Yellow alert has been issued for March 20, warning of rain with strong winds. Due to this the temperature may drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.

feeling of slight warmth during the day

On Monday (16 March), cold winds kept the weather pleasant in the morning and evening, while the sun felt a little strong during the day. The maximum temperature was recorded at 32.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 17.4 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of partly cloudy sky on March 17 also.
