The harsh cold in Delhi has created havoc for the lives of the homeless. In the last 15 days, 44 homeless people have died due to cold, which is very worrying. ABP News team took stock of many night shelters in Delhi. The investigation revealed shockingly that these night shelters have become dens of drug addicts and thieves.

Poor and needy homeless people shy away from staying in these for fear of knives, blades, robbery and assault. The result is that many people are forced to spend the night under the open sky. In a special conversation with ABP News, social worker Bhavesh Piplia shared this serious information.

He told that according to the report of Delhi Police, 44 people have died due to cold in the last 15 days. These deaths are exposing government negligence.

Women living in the night shelter under the Nizamuddin flyover said that lizards are found inside the food, hair falls out and the food is not served properly. They are living here under compulsion with their children. They are living under compulsion because it is cold outside so that the children do not fall ill. Here, wind blows from everywhere, cold rain occurs and water falls drop by drop from above, all the blankets get wet. Here only cleaning is done once in a while and that too only with a broom, there is no cleaning here, we have to clean with our hands.

I am forced to sleep outside

More than half of the people are sleeping outside, there is no cleanliness, food and drinks are not available on time, watered tea is available. How were we afraid because there is knife fighting here, someone’s pockets are cut, someone’s money is stolen, someone’s phone is stolen, even blankets are stolen, hence under compulsion many people have to sleep outside, our husbands do not sleep due to theft or because of fear, there is fear that someone is stabbed with a blade, someone is stabbed and there is no guard here.

There is no security for women here, there is neither electricity nor water. A man was entering our tent at night, so we told the guard, then he closed the tent. The guard comes at night, sleeps and leaves in the morning. Rekha Gupta should come here and see.

people sleeping outside leaving night shelters

The man who has left the night shelter and is sleeping outside, while talking to ABP News, said that drug addicts come there, hence I will not go inside the night shelter at all, I will sleep outside but will not go inside. I have gone inside but did not sleep. The knife and blade are stolen. We come back after earning two paise and kill. If there is safety then we will definitely go. What will happen if someone hits you with a blade?

People living in the night shelter located on Lodhi Road told that the belongings of 45 year old and 50 year old women were thrown in the night shelter near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Red Light. They were killed and the person doing it was a lady. Why was she killed? It is not known till now that she is not talking due to fear.

People angrily said that you tell me, is there anything visible inside it which the government is claiming? Do you see something inside it which is what the government is saying, which the government has published. A buzzer said that we do not sleep in night shelters, even the 10 rupees we earn are stolen. A woman named Anjali said that all the publicity that the government has given outside the night shelters is nothing like this and the blankets are also not clean. We blow our own blankets and the blankets are dirty.

no water in toilet

Along with this, other men who were standing there told that there is no water here, the toilets are dirty and neither medicines are available here nor there is light here nor doctors come here. We are happy with whatever we are getting, now even if we speak, then to whom should we speak? The government has shown in its propaganda that water and electricity are not all these facilities. The blankets given by the government have not been washed nor have the mattresses been washed since we arrived.

‘Convening people to stay in shelter homes’

How many problems are there in night shelters, how can they be fixed and how many people have lost their lives due to the harsh winter in Delhi? ABP News spoke to social worker Bhavesh Piplia, who has been working for night shelters and homeless people for the last several years. He told ABP News that the government should conduct conveyance so that more and more people reach the shelters. One reason for sleeping on the streets instead of shelter homes is that people get blankets and other good things on the streets. People who come to the streets and are sleeping on the streets are given blankets and food.

Bhavesh said that as per the figures of Delhi Police, currently 71 are being reflected on the website of Delhi Police, out of which 44 are such that there is any sign of injury, which means that there are 44 such people who have died due to cold. For the government, these are just statistics, it is the result of the failure of the government. It is shameful that so many deaths are occurring even after spending so much money.

As far as I feel, this picture may be generated, it does not match with the real thing, we continuously raise voice for this, it is so cold, it has become 44 degrees, hence on the 2nd of the month, an order was given that heaters will not be used but the government should think about how to provide facilities to the people. And now we will definitely take this issue to the government because if the people for whom the government has built night shelters are not coming to the night shelters, then the government should reduce this issue.

Winter is at its peak in entire North India including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. Dense fog in the morning and night is affecting road, rail and air traffic. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the situation will not become easy for the coming one week and the cold will continue.

According to the Meteorological Department, today (January 5, 2026), cold day like conditions may arise in some areas of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Along with this, there is a possibility of cold wave in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from January 5 to 8, in West Rajasthan from January 5 to 9 and in East Rajasthan from January 5 to 10. Jharkhand may also experience severe cold on 6th and 7th January.

Chances of rain and snowfall in hilly areas

IMD has informed that on January 5 and 6, there may be light rain or snowfall in the high altitude areas of North and Central Kashmir. There is a possibility of rain or snow in some parts of Uttarakhand on January 6. According to meteorologists, the minimum temperature in Central and Eastern India may drop by 2 to 4 degrees for the next three days.

Cold and bad air in Delhi-NCR

The weather will be mostly clear in Delhi and surrounding areas, but light fog may be seen in the morning. The minimum temperature in the capital has been recorded around 7 degrees Celsius. Also, the air quality still remains in the poor category. The effect of cold wave may be visible in some areas of Delhi on January 6.

Chilliness will increase in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand

The cold is continuously increasing in Uttar Pradesh. Cities like Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Meerut and Noida will feel more cold due to north-westerly winds. At the same time, the effect of cold wave and dense fog will be seen in Jharkhand, due to which life and traffic can be affected.

Most cold in Kashmir valley

The temperature has fallen further in Jammu and Kashmir. The mercury in Gulmarg has reached minus 6.5 degrees, while in Pahalgam also the temperature remains around minus 5 degrees. The weather department has indicated that the cold will increase further in the coming days.

A word of caution though

A warning has been issued that the temperature will fall by 2 to 3 degrees in the first week of January and cold day conditions will persist.

If we talk about Delhi, dense fog may be seen in the coming days, in view of which the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for January 4.

Cold havoc in North and Central India

According to IMD, after the passing of the western disturbance, icy winds have become active in north-west and central India. Cold wave conditions will persist in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In Central India i.e. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Eastern Maharashtra, the temperature may also fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next three days.

Double attack of fog and cold wave

The Meteorological Department said that the blanket of fog and cold wave in the plains will simultaneously increase the problems of the people. There is a possibility of dense to very dense fog in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh till January 7 and in eastern Uttar Pradesh till January 8 at night and morning.

Dense fog will remain in effect in Western Rajasthan till January 4 and in Odisha till January 6. Visibility may be extremely low in Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh and parts of Bihar between January 7 and 9. There has been a warning of cold wave outbreak in western parts of Rajasthan from January 5 to 8 and in eastern parts from January 4 to 8.

Snowfall on mountains, rain and condition of Delhi

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in the Himalayan parts of West Bengal and snowfall in the higher reaches. There may be light rain and snowfall in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir also. Due to the cyclonic circulation formed in the Bay of Bengal, there are chances of rain in Tamil Nadu and Assam-Meghalaya. In view of the possibility of moderate to dense fog in Delhi in the coming days, a yellow alert has been issued.

The maximum temperature recorded in the capital on Saturday was 17.3 degrees and the minimum temperature was 8.1 degrees Celsius, while the air quality index remained in the poor category at 267.
The pollution level in Delhi has once again reached the bad category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in the national capital remained in the very poor category on Sunday and the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 390. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert of very dense fog for Monday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi on Monday are likely to be around 22 and 7 degrees Celsius respectively. According to data from CPCB’s Sameer App, 19 monitoring stations in Delhi reported air quality in the severe category, with Anand Vihar recording the highest AQI of 457, while other places recorded very poor levels.

The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature recorded in the city was 6.3 degrees Celsius, which was 0.5 degrees less than the season’s average, while the maximum temperature was 22.5 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1 degrees more than the season’s average. Humidity was recorded at 100 percent at 5.30 pm.

According to CPCB standards, AQI between 0 to 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 satisfactory, 101 to 200 moderate, 201 to 300 poor, 301 to 400 very poor and 401 to 500 severe.

At the same time, the fog situation remains a problem throughout the day. India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi NCR on 27 December and 28 December. Dense fog, slow winds and falling temperatures have been recorded in the last 24 hours. This has had a direct impact on life, visibility and pollution levels, due to which both cold and smog remain a challenge.

Latest forecast of Delhi NCR

According to the India Meteorological Department, the wind speed in Delhi NCR is continuously decreasing and currently remains between 10 to 12 kilometers per hour during the day. This situation is likely to persist till January 1. In the last 24 hours, there was dense fog in many areas and cold winds blew. There is no relief in pollution as there is no significant change in the speed of winds till the end of December. Between December 27 and 31, the maximum temperature is expected to be 19 to 21 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 6 degrees Celsius.

Yellow fog alert and temperature conditions

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of moderate to dense fog for December 27 and 28. Visibility may be very low in some areas. Due to the presence of clouds, there will be no sharp drop in temperature, but the night will remain cold.

The minimum temperature is likely to be between 6 to 8 degrees on December 27 and 5 to 7 degrees on December 28. There may be a slight increase in the maximum temperature on 30th and 31st December. Delhi’s AQI has been recorded at 332, Noida 376, Ghaziabad 382, Gurugram 312 and Greater Noida 394.

Severe cold at night and experts’ opinion

Yellow alert means that these days, severe cold can be seen at night and dense fog can be seen in many areas. At present there is no possibility of cold wave or rain. According to the Meteorological Department, western disturbances will be continuously active in the hilly areas and snowfall may continue till January 1. Light rain is possible in North Punjab on 31 December and 1 January. Rain will increase in South India from December 30, while there is a possibility of frost in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.

Now the real effect of winter is visible in Delhi. Due to the icy winds coming from the north-western direction, the night temperature has dropped by more than three degrees. People are feeling severe cold in the morning and night. Cold winds have made Delhi’s winter more intense.

According to the Meteorological Department, on Friday (December 26), the maximum temperature of the capital is likely to be between 21 to 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be between 7 to 9 degrees. The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi on Thursday was 6.5 degrees, which is about one degree less than normal. Due to increasing cold at night, people were seen resorting to warm clothes.

Dense fog will remain for two days

The weather department has also warned about fog for the next two days. It is estimated that light to moderate fog may prevail in most areas of Delhi. There is a possibility of reduced visibility especially in the morning, due to which road and rail traffic may be affected.

There will be light clouds during the day

However, the situation is a little relieved during the day. The Meteorological Department says that there may be light clouds during the day, but there is also a possibility of bright sunshine. For this reason the maximum temperature still remains above normal. Due to sunshine in the afternoon, the effect of cold is felt less.

improve air quality

Along with winter, there is good news about Delhi’s air as well. A decrease in pollution levels has been recorded in the capital for the second consecutive day. There has been improvement in air quality due to strong sunlight and wind throughout the day. At present the AQI has been recorded at 286, which falls in the poor category, but the situation is better than before.

However, the Air Quality Early Warning System says that if the wind speed decreases, the pollution level may again fall into the very poor category in the next 24 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department, the pollution level may increase once again with the change in weather.

On Thursday (11 December) morning in Delhi-NCR, people started the day with severe cold. Light fog, smog and cold winds have brought a big change in the weather of the capital. There has been a slight decline in pollution due to increase in wind speed, but visibility still remains low in many areas. IMD has predicted clear sky and drop in minimum temperature.

light fog and cold wind

There was light fog in Delhi-NCR on Thursday (11 December) morning. The temperature is continuously going down and people shiver from the intense cold of the morning. According to the Meteorological Department, today the maximum temperature can be between 23-25°C and the minimum temperature can be between 7-9°C.

The wind is blowing from the north-west direction at a speed of 5-10 km/hour, due to which the weather is feeling colder. There was light fog in the morning in Delhi’s North, South, West, Central, East and Shahdara. Whereas in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad, visibility was slightly reduced due to thin layer of fog.

Slight reduction in pollution, but AQI still ‘bad’

There has been some improvement in pollution today due to increase in wind speed, but the air quality has still not come out of the ‘bad’ category. According to CPCB data at 6 am, the average AQI of Delhi was recorded just above 300.

AQI was 338 in Jahangirpuri, while 317 was recorded in Vivek Vihar and 320 in Wazirpur. On the other hand, the air level of Anand Vihar remained around 300. 305 was recorded in Chandni Chowk, 308 in RK Puram and 302 in Punjabi Bagh.

IIT Delhi area remained in better condition, where AQI was recorded around 210. There was dense fog and smog in the morning in areas like India Gate, Dutta Path, ITO and Anand Vihar, due to which visibility was very low and vehicles had to move at very slow speed.

The temperature will drop further in the coming days

According to the Meteorological Department, both cold and fog may increase in Delhi-NCR in the next 3 to 5 days. On December 12, the sky is likely to be partly cloudy and there is a possibility of light fog in the morning.

On 13 and 14 December, due to the effect of western disturbance, clouds may appear and moderate fog can be seen in the morning. The weather will be clear again on 15th and 16th December, but light to moderate fog may continue in the morning.

IMD says that a further drop of 2 to 3 degrees in the minimum temperature is possible in the next 48 hours. After this, there may be a slight increase in temperature, but the effect of cold will remain.

The country’s capital has now started shivering. Starting to feel cold from morning to evening. There may be continuous fluctuations in the weather in Delhi-NCR this week. The temperature may drop to 6°C on 11-12 December.

According to the Meteorological Department, there will be fog and mist in the morning between December 9 and 14, while light clouds and cold winds will blow during the day. The new western disturbance reaching the mountains on December 13 will have an impact in Northern India but its impact in Delhi will be limited.

weather forecast

The weather in Delhi is likely to be clear to light cloudy from December 9 to December 14. The wind speed will be between 5 to 25 km per hour and dense fog in the morning can increase the problems of the people. On December 9, the winds will blow the strongest, while on December 10 and 11, the sky will be clear and light fog will be seen in the morning.

Light clouds will return between 12th and 14th December. The minimum temperature will remain on a continuous decline. The temperature is expected to reach 6°C on 11th and 12th December. On the other hand, the ongoing snowfall in the hilly states has further increased the effect of cold in the plains. IMD said that there is a possibility of rain in four states of the country today, due to which further drop in temperature can be recorded in Northern India.

The havoc of pollution continues

On the morning of 9th December, the density of smog and pollution increased along with cold in Delhi. AQI remains above 280 in most areas. The situation is worse in the northern areas because AQI is beyond 300. Delhi, which is struggling with pollution, is now going to have the effect of fog, due to which reduced visibility can be seen in the morning and afternoon. A steady decline in temperatures with local winds may continue for the next few days.

Fall in temperature and impact of western disturbance in NCR

Along with Delhi, the weather patterns in NCR’s Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad will also change significantly this week. Strong winds are expected in the initial days and later the cold will increase rapidly. The new western disturbance coming over the mountains on December 13 will not have much impact on Delhi, but a slight increase in temperature may be recorded. However, for the first two days, cold winds will bring down the temperature and morning fog may become dense.

NCR will have to face a mix of cold, wind, fog and light cloudy weather throughout the next week. Meteorologists say that due to drop in temperature and change in wind direction, people need to be cautious of severe cold in the coming days.

The Meteorological Department has warned that there will be dense fog in many parts of North India on Monday morning (8 December 2025), due to which visibility will be low. Cities like Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Delhi, Amritsar, Agra, Tundla, Chandigarh, Nainital and Shimla are in the grip of deep fog.

The weather is different in South India. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in many districts of Tamil Nadu till December 12. The effect of low pressure is visible in the marine areas, due to which the waves in the Gulf of Mannar and Kumari Sagar may become stronger. For this reason, fishermen have been advised not to enter the sea till December 10.

Severe cold in Delhi, temperature may drop to 6°C in the morning
The effect of cold is increasing rapidly in the national capital. The Meteorological Department says that due to very slow wind speed the fog will become more dense. Cold winds will blow during the day too, while morning humidity can reach 100 percent. The minimum temperature is expected to fall to around 6 degrees.

Fog will prevail in Uttar Pradesh for three days
In most of the cities of UP, the morning time will be very hazy between 10th and 12th December. Many districts including Lucknow, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Etawah, Agra, Tundla and Kanpur will be affected by low visibility. People have been advised to avoid morning travel.

Dense fog and wind speed also increase in many districts of Bihar
The effect of dense fog will be visible in Patna, Bhagalpur, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Purnia, Bhojpur, Gaya and Araria. Wind speed can reach 15 to 20 kilometers per hour, which will further increase the effect of cold.

Cold wave hits Jharkhand, yellow alert on 11 districts
Ranchi Meteorological Center has issued a warning saying that the effect of cold wave will be felt in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Khunti, Lohardaga, Simdega, Gumla, Bokaro and Ramgarh of the state. The morning and night temperatures may go down continuously.

Clouds return in Rajasthan, slight increase in temperature
A new western disturbance has become active in Rajasthan, due to which there will be light clouds in many areas. An increase of a few degrees may be seen in the minimum temperature, but the relief will not last long. The weather is expected to remain dry throughout the week.

Cold at its peak in Madhya Pradesh, temperature near 4°C at many places
Icy winds have made the cold more severe in many districts of MP. The temperature in Umaria and Shahdol has been recorded around 4 degrees. The maximum temperature may also fall in the coming days, due to which people will feel chill throughout the day.

Temperature below zero in Kashmir, snowfall in high altitude areas
Winter is continuously increasing in Kashmir valley. The temperature in Pahalgam has reached minus 4.3 degrees. There is a possibility of snowfall in many hilly areas in the next 24 hours. The night temperature remains below zero at most places.

Cold increases in West Bengal too, coldest day of the season in Kolkata
The weather is dry in West Bengal, but the cold is increasing. The temperature is continuously falling in Kolkata and this may prove to be the coldest day of the season. The weather will remain clear and cold next week also.
