Khaleda Zia, who became the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 1991, died on Tuesday (30 December) at the age of 80 after a prolonged illness. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia was one of the two women who dominated Bangladeshi politics for four decades. The second woman is Sheikh Hasina, who has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh 5 times. In August 2024, she had to flee power amid violent student protests and has been living in India since then.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has also expressed condolences on the demise of Khaleda Zia. She said in a post, ‘I express my deep condolences on the demise of BNP President and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. She will always be remembered for her role as the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh and in the struggle to establish democracy. I express my heartfelt condolences to his son Tariq Rehman and his bereaved family members.

political rivalry of begums
Since the 1980s, Bangladesh politics has revolved around Zia and Hasina. The political enmity between the two is well known, which is called the battle of begums. This is a respectable name used for a powerful woman. The political rivalry between the two encouraged street violence in Bangladesh, paralyzed the governance system and also hollowed out democratic politics from within.

Story related to the murder of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
The roots of the enmity between the two Begums go back to 1975, when Bangladesh’s founding father and Awami League chief Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members were assassinated in a coup. Three months later, Zia’s husband Ziaur Rahman (who was the Deputy Chief of Army Staff at the time) effectively took control of the country and became President of Bangladesh in 1977.

How Begum Khaleda became the first PM
After the assassination of Ziaur Rehman in 1981, Zia and Hasina together launched a mass movement for democracy and ousted military ruler Hussain Mohammad Ershad from power in 1990. Jiya and Haseena’s friendship did not last long. The first free elections were held in Bangladesh in 1991. Zia won an unexpected victory over Hasina by getting the support of the country’s largest Islamic party, Jamaat-e-Islami. For this reason Khaleda became the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Hasina was attacked with a grenade!
Sheikh Hasina defeated Zia in the 1996 general elections, but after 5 years Zia returned to power with a huge majority. In 2004, Hasina’s rally was attacked with a grenade, but Hasina survived. Zia’s government was blamed for this attack.

After the start of voting for the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday urged the voters of the state to vote in large numbers as this is a golden opportunity to teach a lesson to the opportunistic rulers who have betrayed the people. A total of 3.75 crore voters will decide the electoral fate of 1,314 candidates in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections.

 Kharge said this big thing

In this phase, the fate of the opposition grand alliance’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and deputy chief ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha along with 16 ministers is also at stake. Kharge posted on ‘X’, ‘Voting for the first phase of assembly elections has started in Bihar, the birthplace of democracy. I appeal to the voters of Bihar to use their constitutional rights in maximum numbers and provide a new direction of change to the state after 20 years.

He said that we have to build such a Bihar where the future of the youth of the state is secure and they do not have to suffer the brunt of unemployment and migration. The Congress President said, ‘Every section of the society – Dalit, Mahadalit, tribal, backward, extremely backward, economically weak, minorities – should get equal rights and we should create a new definition of social justice so that Bihar’s contribution in the progress of the country increases.’

He emphasized, ‘Today, the aware people of Bihar have a golden opportunity to teach a lesson to the opportunistic rulers who have betrayed the public in the last 20 years by branding corruption, misgovernance and jungle raj as ‘development’. Don’t let this opportunity go. Kharge said, ‘I especially appeal to the youth who are voting for the first time, that they should not waste this opportunity and must exercise their franchise for change. Do vote and encourage your friends and family too. ,

What did Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi say?

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called on voters to vote to protect democracy and the Constitution. He posted on ‘X’, ‘My dear brothers, sisters, mothers and youth of Bihar! Today is the day to decide your future with your own hands. Come out in large numbers and participate in the great festival of democracy.

Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘Vote for jobs, education, health and bright future of Bihar, to protect your democracy, constitution and right to vote.’

Voting for the first phase of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 started today with great enthusiasm and peaceful atmosphere. In this phase, voters are exercising their franchise in Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Patna, Bhojpur and Buxar districts.

The Election Commission has given priority to technology and security in the first phase of voting. 100% webcasting has been arranged at each booth, and voters can directly view their voting information through the new Voter Information Slip (VIS) and EVM Net App. For the first phase, 121 general observers, 18 police observers and 33 expenditure observers have been deployed. Special security surveillance has been maintained in rural areas, so that voting can be conducted fairly and smoothly.

According to voter data, Digha assembly constituency has the maximum number of voters registered at 4,57,657, while Barbigha has the least number of voters at 2,31,998. In terms of area, Bankipur is the smallest (16.239 square kilometer) and Suryagarha is the largest (62.247 square kilometer) assembly constituency.

The Commission has made extensive use of technology to maintain transparency in the election process. Voters can confirm their franchise through EVM Net App and VIS and get complete information about the voting process.

In the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025, the fate of many famous and big candidates will be decided in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

The controversy has started just hours after the Election Commission of India (EC) announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in 12 states and union territories. The states where this process is to begin include opposition-ruled Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, where assembly elections are to be held next year.

Tam Lanadu was the first to raise the flag of protest. Chief Minister M.K. The Stalin-led DMK government has termed the process as a conspiracy to snatch away the voting rights of the people of the state and has decided to call an all-party meeting on the issue on November 2. DMK and its allies targeted the BJP government at the Center and said that this step is an attempt to weaken and defame democracy. He says that it will be very difficult to do this work on such a large scale during the north-east monsoon in November-December.

The party alliance said, “We are not saying that the voter list should not be revised, but it is wrong to do it in such a hurry. When assembly elections are going to be held in the state in April, then this step is not appropriate.” DMK alleged that Muslims, Dalits and women were targeted during SIR in Bihar. The statement said, “Tamil Nadu will not allow any such conspiracy to succeed. We will together oppose it.”

West Bengal and Kerala government also targeted

The ruling TMC of West Bengal and the CPI(M) government of Kerala also made sharp attacks on the Election Commission. TMC MP Derek O’Brien said, “The SIR in Bihar was just a trial, the real target is Bengal. The public will answer to the commission in a few months, which has now become completely biased.”

Senior CPI(M) leader M.A. Baby said that the Commission’s decision is one-sided and hasty. He alleged, “When the Supreme Court is hearing the validity of SIR in Bihar, taking this process forward is an insult to democratic standards.”

Congress also raised questions on the intentions of the Election Commission

Congress also raised questions on the intentions of the Election Commission. Party spokesperson Pawan Kheda said, “In Bihar, the shortcomings of the SIR had to be rectified by the intervention of even the Supreme Court. Now the same experiment is being repeated in other states. It is clear that the Election Commission is now working under the control of the BJP.”

Maria Corina Machado, 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner and who has been fighting for the restoration of democracy in Venezuela for 20 years, has described India as a great democracy and a model for the world. In an interview given to a TV channel, Machado said that India can become an important partner of Venezuela and both the countries can work together in many areas after the restoration of democracy.

“I want to talk to Prime Minister Modi and invite him to an independent Venezuela as soon as possible,” Machado said. He also praised India’s democratic role and said that it is very important to keep democracy strong. Machado talked about taking inspiration from the non-violent fight of Mahatma Gandhi. He said, “Keeping peace is not weakness, Gandhi showed this to the whole world.”

What did you say about Venezuela’s 2024 presidential election?

Referring to Venezuela’s 2024 presidential election, he said that the opposition had won with an overwhelming majority, but the Nicolas Maduro government canceled the election. He said that he offered Maduro to leave power peacefully, but Maduro refused and started strict repression in the country.

Machado expressed this hope

Machado said that US President Donald Trump is one of his main allies in restoring democracy. He expressed hope that due to international support, Maduro will understand that his time is over and he will have to leave power peacefully. Machado told India that after democracy is restored in Venezuela, Indian companies can invest in energy, infrastructure and telecommunications.

Opportunities for India and Venezuela relations

Machado also invited India to join the countries raising their voice for democracy and human rights. He said that after democracy is restored, Indian companies can invest in the sectors of energy, infrastructure and telecommunication. Machado also said that India’s democratic strength and experience can guide the reconstruction of Venezuela’s democracy.

Machado finally gave the message that democracy should never be taken lightly and the responsibility of a big democracy like India is very big, because the whole world learns from such an example.

In such a situation, today let us tell you the reason behind why the Constitution of India was implemented only on 26 January.

Why was the country’s Constitution implemented only on 26 January?

In fact, 26 January 1930 was a very special day in the history of the Indian independence movement. At that time in 1929 Lahore session, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru The Congress, under the chairmanship of Dominion If statehood is not given, India will declare itself complete independence. After this, on 26 January 1930, Independence Day was celebrated for the first time in the entire country and the tricolor was hoisted everywhere. This day came to be considered a symbol of the fight for freedom for Indians. Therefore, when India became independent in 1947 and the process of making the Indian Constitution was completed, India’s Constitution It was decided to implement the date of 26th January, so that 26th January Day Always remain intact in history.

when india became Ganraj

On January 26, 1950, India’s first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad hoisted the flag with a 21-gun salute and declared India a full-fledged republic. At this moment the system of public rule i.e. Gana was established in India. Which means that the country is not run by a king or emperor but by a government elected by the people.

What is the importance of Republic Day?

Republic Day is celebrated every year on 26 January. nationwide It is celebrated as the festival of democracy.
A big global movement has started in protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump. This campaign has been named ‘No Kings’, which means, we do not believe in any king. This movement has spread from America to Europe and Asia.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the US Embassy in London on Saturday (18 October 2025) against the policies of the Trump administration. The protesters said that they are standing in protest against the President’s increasing dictatorial behavior and the threat to democratic institutions.

Protest started from London, impact spread to the world

This rally in London is being considered as the first phase of the No Kings campaign. With this, more than 2,600 demonstrations have been organized across the world. Even in Spanish cities like Madrid and Barcelona, people took to the streets and protested. In America, thousands of people in New York, Washington and Chicago expressed their displeasure over the policies of the Trump administration.

People said – ‘Democracy is not anyone’s personal empire’

Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible, an organization associated with the campaign, said that this demonstration is to protect democracy. He said that the idea that we do not have kings is the soul of the American Constitution. This movement gives the message that citizens will have to raise their voice again.

Increased commotion and security in America

Protestors marched peacefully in many parts of America. Hundreds of people in Virginia headed towards Washington DC and gathered near Arlington Cemetery. Organizers said that this campaign has received the support of more than 300 social organizations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has also trained thousands of volunteers to ensure that the protests remain peaceful.

Leaders and celebrities gave support

America’s progressive leaders Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Hillary Clinton also supported the campaign. Many celebrities gave a message of unity on social media with the No Kings hashtag. A few months ago, similar protests took place on Trump’s birthday, in which lakhs of people participated.

Trump said – ‘I am not a king’

Trump responded to the protests by saying it was wrong to call him a king. He also said that these demonstrations are politically motivated and harm the image of the country. Republican Party leaders also criticized these protests, calling them anti-America campaigns.

People’s voice got a platform again

American sociologist Dana Fisher believes that the No Kings campaign could prove to be the largest mass movement in recent years. He says that this is not just a protest against Trump’s policies, but it is the voice of those who are feeling suppressed. According to Fischer, more than three million people can join this movement, which shows that the public will no longer remain silent.

Putin said that US President Donald Trump has been ignored.

Hours after the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize, Putin said, ‘Trump has done a lot for peace. The biggest example of this is the Middle East. Putin was referring to the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza, which was finalized on Thursday and became effective from today.

‘The Nobel Committee has often honored the wrong people’

Putin further said that many times the Nobel Committee has given the award to people who have done nothing for peace. The prestige of this award has been lost to a great extent. However, he further said, ‘I don’t know whether Trump is eligible for this or not.’ Trump did not receive the Nobel Prize this year, even though his Republican allies and many countries, including Russia, lobbied in his favor.

Israel’s Prime Minister also gave a statement in support of Trump

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also supported Trump and said, ‘The Nobel Committee talks about peace and President Donald Trump makes it possible. He speaks the truth. President Trump deserves this honor.

Norway’s committee praised Machado’s struggle

This year the Nobel Peace Prize has been given to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. The Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its statement that this honor has been given to him for his tireless struggle to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

‘Trump will keep making peace deals’

At the same time, the White House, reacting to this announcement, said that the US President will continue to make peace agreements, end wars and save lives. The White House communications director wrote on X (formerly Twitter), ‘President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives. There is humanity in his heart. There will be no one like him, who can make the impossible possible with his will power.

Gaurav bhatia on cji’s statement: Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.K. R. Gawai recently said during an event held at Mauritius that the Indian judicial system is not operated by the rule of bulldozers, but from the rule of law.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia supported this statement saying that India’s democracy is strong and the judiciary has strengthened further in the last 11 years with the government’s cooperation. Apart from this, he also targeted Rahul Gandhi.

Gaurav Bhatia said this

Gaurav Bhatia said, ‘India’s judiciary has strengthened with foresight with the cooperation of the government in the last 11 years. He said that India runs under the Constitution and Law. The faith of the Chief Justice is in the constitution and the faith of Indian citizens is also in the constitution. It is also true that India is a country where democracy is strong. He dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s statement that it was said that India’s democracy is over, and said that it is beyond the truth.

Bhatia further said that India will always run under the Constitution and Law. The government also has a commitment to the Constitution. The judicial system and our Chief Justice are also respected. Their faith is in the constitution and the faith of citizens is also in the Constitution.

Not a bulldozer, India will run with constitution

CJI B. R. Gawai had earlier said in the ‘Rule of Law Memorial Lecture’ in Mauritius that without hearing and legal process, the house of someone from bulldozers is against the rules of law. He clarified, “India runs not from the rule of bulldozers, but from the rule of law.”

The Chief Justice, citing Mahatma Gandhi, said that before taking any decision, it should be thought that what will be the effect on the poorest and last person of the society. Giving the example of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, he said that the Constitution has made rules and procedures in such a way that there is no misuse of power and every human should get justice. CJI B. R. Gawai said that the Supreme Court of India has always been strengthening the “rule of law” and he also mentioned many historical decisions for this.

As soon as the election season comes in Bihar, the political movement intensifies. There is only one discussion at every nook-street, tea tapri, and paan shop, who will win and whose government will be formed this time. But amidst these debates, the old people must remember the special event of booth capturing for the first time in the country. This was the period when the election was not a celebration of democracy but fear and panic. Today we have EVM, security forces, media, and social media. Now if there is a disturbance, then the voice can be raised immediately. But today we are telling you the story of during the time when booths were captured in Bihar. Know how the Election Commission used to announce the results at that time?
When there was booth capturing in Bihar

Today we vote very easily. Security forces are deployed, cameras are installed, and immediate action is taken on every disturbance. However, when the country was going through the initial phase of independence in 1957, about 68 years ago, the first case of booth loot ie booth capturing came to light in Bihar. The incident took place in Rachiyahi village in Begusarai district of Bihar. Where some musclemen captured the polling station, cast fake votes and beat up the protesters.

The first general election in India was held in 1951. Then the public exposed democracy by casting his vote for the first time. But when the second election was held in 1957, then there was an attempt to crush democracy in Bihar on the strength of weapons. The Rachiyahi area of Begusarai district, which was then part of the Begusarai assembly constituency, came into the limelight when the booth capturing was open for the first time here.

How did the Election Commission announce the results?

In the 1957 election, there was no special security at polling booths, no CCTV camera, no central force (CRPF), no system to file a complaint. So when this scandal was done at the booth, then people used to get information about it from the newspapers the next day. The Election Commission also could not do anything special on this issue, and the results were declared in the same way, this incident of 1957 changed the direction of politics in Bihar. After this, elections started coming under the influence of mafia leaders, in the 1970s, this series became more dangerous. After this incident, there was gradually talk of election reforms in the country. But crimes like booth capturing in Bihar continued for many years.

At the same time, after the 1957 incident, the Election Commission started emphasizing on the deployment of security forces. Gradually the presence of central forces became necessary. The decision to bring EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) was also to stop similar disturbances. The use of technical measures like VVPAT, CCTV cameras, and flying squads began.
