Dengue is a viral disease that spreads from the bites of Aedes mosquito (mainly Aedes Egypt). The disease is more common in tropical and sub-triangular regions, but due to climate change, urbanization and global journey it is now spreading in areas where it was not before.

The WHO had prepared a report based on data up to 20 March 2025. It was told that from the beginning of 2025 to March 20, more than 14 lakh cases of dengue were reported in 53 countries/regions. At the same time, 400 people lost their lives. However, this figure is 65 percent less than in 2024, but four percent more than the last five years.

There were many more dengue cases in 2023. During that time more than 65 lakh cases were registered worldwide. At the same time, more than 6800 people lost their lives. During that time South America and South-East Asia were the most affected. Experts believe that climate change, monsoon irregularity and increase in mosquito reproduction were the main reasons.

According to the new study, the most deaths due to dengue are happening in South America. 39,24,992 cases of dengue were reported in South America during 2023. Of these, 1946 people lost their lives. Brazil was the most affected in the region, where more than 12 million cases of dengue were registered till August 2024.

Dengue outbreak is also no less in South-East Asia. During 2023, 16,22,405 cases of dengue were registered in the region. At the same time, 3637 people lost their lives. The most affected countries here were Bangladesh and Thailand. 3,08,167 cases were registered in Bangladesh by November 2023. During that time 1598 people died here. During that time 1,36,655 cases of dengue were registered in Thailand, while 147 people died.

Dengue is also a very dangerous disease in India and it is included in the list of 30 most affected countries in the world. By June 2024, more than 32,000 dengue cases were registered in India, while 32 people died.
