UP DGP Salary: Different levels of police forces are deployed for the security of the states. But the officer who is in charge of the security of the state is considered to be the most senior police officer of the state. The Director General of Police i.e. DGP is responsible for everything from law and order to crime control and operation of the entire police force. In such a situation, questions often arise in the minds of many people that how much salary does an officer holding such a high post get and what government facilities do he get.

Especially when it comes to a big state like Uttar Pradesh, this question increases further. Let us tell you that at present the command of Uttar Pradesh Police is in the hands of 1991 batch IPS officer Rajiv Krishna. He is leading the police administration as DGP. In such a situation, let us tell you today how much salary the DGP of UP Police gets and how IPS officers reach this post.

DGP is the biggest post in the police department.

DGP i.e. Director General of Police is the highest officer of the police system of any state. In Hindi it is called Director General of Police. The main responsibilities of the DGP include maintaining law and order, crime control, operation of the police force and giving security related advice to the government. It is counted among the highest posts in the Indian Police Service. For this reason, the salary of DGP is also decided according to the highest pay scales of the Central and State Government.

How much salary do you get at present?

At present the DGP is paid under the Seventh Pay Commission. This post comes under the Apex scale, which is among the highest pay scales in the government service. The basic salary of DGP is around Rs 2.25 lakh per month. Apart from this, they also get dearness allowance, traveling allowance and other government facilities. At present, after adding dearness allowance, an additional amount of more than Rs 1 lakh is added to the basic salary. At the same time, if government accommodation is not provided to the officers, then house rent allowance is also given. Including various allowances and facilities, the total monthly income of DGP reaches approximately 3 lakh to 4 lakh.

Also read- Ranchi’s daughter did wonders in CBSE 12th, achieved 500 marks out of 500 after re-evaluation.

What is the path to become DGP?

To become a DGP, first of all the candidate has to pass the Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission and get selected in the Indian Police Service. After becoming an IPS officer, the officer’s career passes through many stages. Generally the officer starts at the level of Deputy Superintendent of Police. Then one reaches the post of Additional Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General, Inspector General, Additional Director General of Police and finally DGP. This post is given on the basis of long experience, good service record and seniority, hence it takes several decades of service to become DGP.

The election bugle has sounded in Bengal. Political rhetoric has continued since the dates were announced after the Election Commission’s press conference on Sunday. In such a situation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised questions on the decision of the Election Commission. He has said that the removal of the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary by the Election Commission shows serious disrespect towards the efficient officers of Bengal.

What did Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee say?

Mamata Banerjee said that transferring the woman Chief Secretary without consulting the state government is an anti-women step. In fact, after the Principal Secretary and Chief Secretary, now senior police officers in West Bengal were also transferred by the Central Election Commission. Apart from this, the state DGP, IG and Kolkata Police Commissioner have also been transferred. In their place new officers have been given the responsibility.

According to the Election Commission, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had said in a press conference that the elections in West Bengal will be conducted in a violence-free and peaceful manner. Due to this, the Election Commission has transferred senior police officers of West Bengal including DGP and Kolkata Police Commissioner.

This time elections will be held in two phases in West Bengal

The Election Commission has announced the election dates of the upcoming five states including West Bengal on Sunday. Elections will be held in Bengal in 2 phases instead of 8 phases. The first phase notification will be issued on March 30. For this, candidates can file their nominations till 6th April. Withdrawal of nominations will be allowed on 9th April. Voting for the first phase will take place on April 23.

Notification for the second phase will be issued on April 2. Nominations will be filed by April 9. Nominations for the second phase can be withdrawn till April 13. Apart from this, the second phase of voting will take place on April 29. The counting of electoral votes will take place on 4th May 2026, with this the elections in the states will be completed on 6th May 2026. Voting will be held on 294 assembly seats in the state. With the announcement of election dates, the code of conduct has now been implemented in the state.

Just hours after the announcement of the dates of Assembly elections 2026 in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) made a major reshuffle in the state administration. The Commission first ordered the removal of the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary and now senior police officers of the state have also been transferred. The state DGP, IG and Kolkata Police Commissioner have been removed from their posts and new officers will be given the responsibility in their place.

Chief Secretary and Home Secretary changed
The Election Commission has removed West Bengal Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Home Secretary Jagdish Prasad Meena from their posts. Dushyant Nariyala has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state in place of Nandini Chakraborty. Sangamitra Ghosh has been made the new Home Secretary.

Transfer of senior police officers
Along with the administrative reshuffle, the Commission has also made changes in the police department of the state. The West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP), an IG rank officer and the Kolkata Police Commissioner have also been transferred. New officers will soon be appointed in place of these officers, who will take charge of law and order during the elections.

Seven AERO officers were suspended
Taking strict action, the Election Commission has also directly suspended seven AERO officials. The Commission believes that changes in the administrative system are necessary to keep the election process fair and transparent.

Know who got the responsibility
ECI said in a letter that 1993 batch IAS officer Dushyant Nariyala has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of West Bengal. Whereas 1997 batch IAS officer Sangamitra Ghosh has been posted as the Principal Secretary of Home and Hill Affairs of West Bengal. The Election Commission has directed that these orders should be implemented immediately and the report regarding the involvement of these officers should be sent by 3 pm on March 16 (Monday).

According to sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee intervened during the ED raid on the premises of I-PAC on Thursday (January 8). Mamta Banerjee took the phone of I-PAC official Prateek Jain in her hand on the spot and kept it with herself.

This entire incident came to light when ED in Kolkata raided the premises of political consulting firm I-PAC as part of a money laundering investigation. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reacted sharply to this and has accused TMC of theft of documents.

Threat of arrest to ED officials
Not only this, sources also say that the DGP told three ED officers not to record anything in the Panchnama and to show that nothing has been recovered. If not then they will arrest the ED officials. ED officials say that there were three ED officers at that time while on the other hand dozens of police officers and the team of Z Security given to the CM were present.

‘Forced to make changes in documents’
According to ED sources, an attempt was made to intimidate the officers and prevent them from writing the real thing in the report. Sources also claim that the DGP told the ED officials that now we will file an FIR and arrest you people. Sources say that independent witnesses were also present there. Kolkata Police and CM’s staff also tried to harass and intimidate him. According to sources, Enforcement Directorate officials say that they faced pressure and threats throughout the operation and were forced to make changes in official documents under pressure.

What did Mamta Banerjee say
At the same time, Mamata Banerjee rejected the ED’s statement outright. He claimed that the ED was trying to seize internal data, hard disks and strategy documents related to the election planning of Trinamool Congress, which had nothing to do with the money laundering investigation.

Haryana Police has got a new chief. The state government has appointed 1992 batch IPS officer Ajay Singhal as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana. Ajay Singhal was till now fulfilling his responsibilities as the head of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau. His name was announced on the same day as that of current DGP O.P. Singh retired after 33 years of service.

According to the government order, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Sumita Mishra issued a notification regarding the appointment of the new DGP. Earlier on December 16, the state government had requested the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to send a panel of eligible officers for the post of DGP. After this, a UPSC meeting was held on 31 December, in which the list of eligible officers was prepared. Ajay Singhal’s name was approved from this panel.

UPSC panel and popular names

One name in the panel sent by UPSC was that of Shatrujit Singh Kapoor, who is considered to be the most senior officer in this list. However, after an FIR was registered against him in a case, he was sent on leave. Despite this, his name being included in the panel remained a topic of discussion. But the state government clearly gave priority to Ajay Singhal and entrusted him with the responsibility of the post of DGP.

Appointment under the instructions of the Supreme Court

The appointment of DGP in Haryana has been done as per the instructions of the Supreme Court in ‘Prakash Singh Case’. Under these instructions, UPSC first prepares a panel of eligible officers and then the state government selects a name from that panel. Following this entire process, Ajay Singhal has been made the new DGP.

Who is Ajay Singhal?

57-year-old Ajay Singhal is a 1992 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. Most of his service period was spent in Haryana. He originally comes from Rewari district of Haryana. Talking about education, Ajay Singhal is a B.Tech degree holder.

Ajay Singhal is known as a strict and disciplined officer in Haryana Police. He has worked in many sensitive areas of the state, where the law and order situation was always challenging. His experience in matters like riots, election duty and crime control is considered very strong.

Long and impeccable career

In his police career of more than three decades, Ajay Singhal’s name has remained almost away from controversies. He has worked in important departments like Intelligence, Crime Investigation, Crime against Women, Human Rights, Railway Police and Vigilance. He has also held important responsibilities in the State Crime Branch and Anti Corruption Bureau.

Apart from this, he has also worked with central agencies in many cases. He is known as an officer who likes to work on the ground and does not believe in much show off.

Haryana DGP O.P. On December 1, 2025, Singh conducted a surprise visit to Gurugram Police Station Cyber Crime East, where he put himself in the role of a “digital arrest” victim and examined the response process, support system and technical capacity of the police.

This inspection is being considered very important for the purpose of cyber crime prevention, quick relief to the victims and fixing the responsibility of the banks. The DGP clarified that Haryana Police will now adopt a more aggressive, strategic and innovative approach to deal with cyber crimes.

Major decisions regarding cyber crime control

During the inspection, the DGP directed the officials to take prompt action on cyber complaints and ensure immediate recovery of small financial losses. He said that in cases of bank freezing of small amounts, the victims will be given quick financial relief by involving Lok Adalat.

He said that if the negligence of the bank is proved, the bank will have to compensate for the financial loss. Cases causing delay in disposal of complaints will be strictly reviewed. With each complaint lodged, tracking status and support will be provided to the victim.

He said that “Haryana Police aims to make cyber fraud difficult and make the police process citizen-friendly.” During the inspection, he also thoroughly examined the response system, data handling and follow-up structure of the police station.

Appeal to beware of cyber fraud

DGP OP While talking to the media, Singh said that most of the cyber crimes are committed by creating greed or fear in the minds of people, hence vigilance is the biggest weapon. He stressed that if someone asks to send money in the name of earnings, award, government order, police action or any kind of pressure, then understand that fraud is taking place.

If you open a suspicious call, link, website or app, be alert immediately. Verify before making any payment and do not trust messages from unknown sources. If you face cyber crime, lodge a complaint on helpline 1930. DGP warned citizens that in the digital age, fraudsters are constantly adopting new methods, hence security is not possible without awareness.

Preparation of “Cyber Awareness Ambassador” in schools and colleges

Haryana Police is working on a plan to make cyber security a mass movement in the state, under which “cyber awareness ambassadors” are being prepared in schools and colleges. The role of these students will be to spread safety messages in every home, society and on digital platforms.

Youth will be trained to identify and prevent cyber crimes. Awareness campaign will be run widely on social media. Partnership between police, educational institutions and citizens will be strengthened.

The DGP assured that Haryana Police will continue its efforts to provide justice to the victims, increase technological infrastructure and ensure digital security across the state. He said that along with police action, public vigilance is equally necessary in the fight against cyber crime.

The two high posts that play the most important role in the security and law and order of the country are Army General and DGP (Director General of Police). While the Army General is responsible for the country’s borders and national security, the DGP works to maintain the internal security and law and order of the state. Although both the posts are very important, their scope, powers and responsibilities are different. Let us know what is the difference between Army General and DGP and what are their rights, salary and scope of work.

The Army General is the biggest sentinel of the country’s national security. He operates the entire army to deal with India’s borders, war preparations and situations like terrorism. Army generals report directly to the President and the Defense Ministry. Their role is strategic and decisive for the security of the country. In war, national security threats and any cross-border activity, the opinion and decisions of the Army General are paramount.

DGP’s duties and responsibilities

DGP is the chief officer of law and order and internal security of the state. He reports to the state government and works directly under the home secretary and chief minister of the state. The main job of DGP is to monitor crime in the state, maintain law and order and operate the police force. They also deal with terrorism and serious state level crimes, but their responsibility is limited to their state only.

Who is more powerful?

While both the posts are extremely important in their respective fields, the Army General is considered more powerful than the DGP. The reason for this is that the Army General is responsible for the security of the entire country. He not only faces serious challenges like war and terrorism, but also plays an important role in the strategic decisions of the country. The responsibility of DGP is limited to the law and order of one state only.

Salary and allowances

Talking about the salary of both the posts, there is not much difference in it.
Former Uttar Pradesh Police DGP Prashant Kumar has posted a passionate post after retirement. In this, he has mentioned the police department remembering his entire tenure. He has also said that our uniform is temporary but duty is always there.

On the social media site X, Prashant Kumar wrote on Sunday, June 1- When he retired yesterday, my heart was full of gratitude, pride and a sense of belonging. This is not just Farewell but it is an opportunity to stop, consider and walk with me in this extraordinary journey of service. From the first day to this occasion in uniform, I lived with the only purpose of serving people, maintaining justice and standing with my police every day.

The former IPS wrote- What we do is not just a job but a call. During this time I have got the privilege of supporting you all. Standing in torrential rains, from the constable who managed traffic managing, from the officer who solved a case by sleeping at night. The teams who emphasized innovation are the true soul of this police.

SP MP Priya Saroj and cricketer Rinku’s wedding date set, seven rounds will be taken in Varanasi on this day

We restored confidence in citizens- former DGP
The former DGP wrote- I am just a thread of the grand picture of Uttar Pradesh Police, and yet you made me feel very important. In these years of career, we saw together from tragedy to victory and change. We modernized policing, faced cyber crimes and responded to crises. The most important thing in all this is that we restored confidence in khaki among citizens. For me, this is the biggest medal I will take into retirement.

He wrote that I am leaving this post with pride without any regret. It is possible that there are no stars on my shoulders, but I will always walk in my heart with the spirit of the police. As I will step into the next chapter of life, my prayers, respect and unwavering support will always be with you. We should never forget that ‘uniform is temporary. Duties, always live. You continue to serve with courage, compassion and conscience.
