Petrol Diesel Price: Due to the ongoing war between US-Iran, the prices of crude oil are increasing globally. Due to which the prices of petrol, diesel and gas are increasing. Due to which the common man is getting troubled but now once again the government has increased the tension of the common man. It has been told by the government that oil companies are incurring losses even after increasing the fuel prices. Seeing this, it seems that the prices are going to increase further in the coming time.

Petroleum Ministry statement
In fact, recently the Petroleum Ministry has held a media briefing, in which it has been told that government oil companies are incurring a loss of about Rs 30 per liter on diesel, Rs 6 per liter on petrol and about Rs 700 on domestic LPG cylinder. Putting all these together, companies are facing losses of Rs 600-700 crore every day.

Also read: Smart Prepaid Meter: New era of prepaid meters in UP, smart electricity meters will be installed in crores of houses, Adani will spend Rs 3000 crores.

In the press conference, Additional Secretary of Petroleum Ministry, Praveen Mal Khanuja said, ‘There is a loss of about Rs 30 per liter on diesel. In Delhi, when you buy diesel for Rs 95, the company actually bears the remaining Rs 30, and in the case of petrol this loss is still around Rs 6 per litre. The daily loss is still around Rs 600-700 crore.

The reason is the blockage in the Strait of Hormuz
There is a blockage in the Strait of Hormuz due to the Iran-US war, due to which the prices of crude oil have increased in the global market. This has also affected India’s government oil companies (OMCs), because they are selling fuel at relatively lower prices to domestic consumers. This has increased the financial pressure on these companies.

Meanwhile, let us tell you that on June 7, government oil companies have increased the price of domestic LPG cylinder by Rs 29. This is the second time since the beginning of the crisis in the Middle East, that the prices of LPG have been increased.

Amidst the ongoing conflict and tension in the Middle East, the dates for the assembly elections to be held in many states of India have been announced. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has made a big prediction. He said that after the elections, the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG gas cylinders will increase rapidly in the country.

What did Rahul Gandhi say in X post?

Actually, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has shared a post on social media platform X on Saturday (March 21, 2026). In the post, Rahul Gandhi has targeted the Modi government at the Center over the weakening of the Indian rupee against the US dollar.

The weakening of the rupee towards 100 against the dollar and the sharp rise in the prices of industrial fuel – these are not just figures, but clear signs of the coming inflation.

The government may call it “normal”, but the reality is this:

• Production and transportation will be expensive
• MSMEs are hurt the most…

—Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) March 21, 2026

He wrote in the post, ‘The weakening of the rupee against the dollar and moving towards 100 and the sharp increase in the prices of industrial fuel, these are not just figures, they are clear signs of the coming inflation.’ He said, ‘The government may call it normal, but the reality is that production and transport will be expensive, MSMEs will be hurt the most, prices of everyday items will increase and FII (Foreign Institutional Investor) money will come out more rapidly, which will increase pressure on the stock market. That means it is sure to have a direct and deep impact on the pockets of every family. And it is only a matter of time that after the elections the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG will also be increased.

Modi government is just making statements: Rahul Gandhi

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi further said, ‘Modi government has neither direction nor strategy – only rhetoric. The question is not what the government is saying – the question is what is left in your plate.

Oil crisis increasing worldwide due to Iran-Israel war

Due to Iran’s war with Israel-America, the crude oil supply of many countries around the world has been significantly damaged. The prices of petrol and diesel have been increased in about 95 countries of the world. However, till now there has been no increase in the prices of regular petrol and diesel used by common people in India. However, oil companies have definitely increased the prices of premium petrol and industrial diesel in the country.

A good news has come for India amid the blockade imposed by Iran on the movement of crude oil, gas and commercial ships to countries around the world through the Strait of Hormuz. In the coming days, two LPG tankers carrying the Indian national flag are preparing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, after a phone conversation between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, two Indian ships had come out of the Strait of Hormuz. However, no tanker loaded with crude oil has passed through this route in the last 24 hours.

Both Indian tankers are standing anchored in the Gulf area.

Aljazeera, quoting data analytics firm Kpler, has reported that these two Indian flagged LPG tankers are currently anchored in the waters of the Gulf region and are waiting for the situation to improve. An empty crude oil tanker, which is subject to US sanctions, returned to Iranian waters through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday (March 18, 2026).

Strait of Hormuz is very important for the world

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important sea routes in the world. This sea route connects the Gulf country’s waters with the Indian Ocean, where about 20 percent of the global oil supply passes through this route. In such a situation, any kind of problem or obstruction in this area can have a direct impact on international oil prices and supply.

Iran has imposed blockade in the Strait of Hormuz

Since the beginning of the war with Israel and America, Iran has completely blockaded the Strait of Hormuz sea route. Iran is targeting ships of every country in the world passing through this route with its drones and missiles. However, Iran has allowed Indian oil and gas tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

After the increase in the prices of premium petrol, now industrial diesel (Diesel Price Hike in India) has also become expensive. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has made a major revision in the rate of industrial diesel, increasing it from ₹ 87.67 per liter to ₹ 109.59 per liter. After this decision, it is expected that the industrial sector, logistics and transport costs will be affected.

Industrial diesel is not sold at common petrol pumps. It is purchased directly by factories, big generators, mining companies, construction sites and power plants. Earlier, oil companies had increased the prices of branded and high-octane category premium petrol by about ₹ 2 per liter. However, at present there has been no change in the prices of normal petrol, which has provided immediate relief to the common consumers.

Inflation will increase due to increase in fuel prices

According to economic analysts, if this trend in fuel cost continues, its effect may gradually be visible on inflation and supply chain as well. At present, the market’s eyes are on international oil prices and the next decisions of oil companies. Energy market experts say that this increase is a sign of instability in the global crude oil market and increasing concern about supply. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has increased pressure on the global energy supply chain, increasing costs for oil companies. For this reason, prices have been revised in select fuel categories.

Increase in price of industrial production will affect common people

However, it is a matter of relief for the common consumers that there has been no change in the prices of normal petrol and diesel at present. Analysts believe that the impact of such increase in fuel cost may indirectly reach the common consumers as well. When industrial production and freight transportation become expensive, its effect is ultimately reflected in the prices of goods and services, which can lead to upward pressure on inflation.

India imports a large part of its oil needs, hence fluctuations in the international market have a direct impact on domestic fuel prices. At present, the common motorists have definitely got immediate relief due to the stable prices of petrol and diesel, but the possibility of further changes cannot be ruled out amid the uncertainty of the energy market.
