Congress opened front against the government

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Congress workers demonstrated on the streets in Kalaburagi against the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG and demanding immediate withdrawal of these from the BJP led central government. Organized by the District Congress Committee, the demonstration started from the party office on Sedam Road and went till Annapurna Cross. The protesters raised slogans against the central government and stopped the movement of vehicles at the busy intersection as part of the agitation.

Addressing the gathering, Gescom Chairman Praveen Patil Harwal alleged that the continuous increase in fuel prices is increasing the burden on poor families and appealed to the Central Government to reduce the prices of LPG, petrol and diesel without any delay. District Mahila Congress President Renuka Singe and District Youth Congress President Shakeel Ahmed Sardagi also took part in this protest.

When was the last amendment made?

The government said the measure was aimed at ensuring adequate domestic supply of petroleum products in the face of excessive exports, at a time when global energy markets were being affected by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Officials said that the fee is reviewed and revised every fortnight based on the current conditions of the international market. The previous amendment came into effect from May 16, 2026.

There will be a duty of Rs 1.5 per liter on export of petrol. This entire amount will be collected as special additional excise duty, while Road and Infrastructure Cess will not be levied.
