These days, Black Friday sale is going on on almost every e-commerce platform. During this period, goods become very cheap and people do a lot of shopping. Seeing this, scammers also become active and they try to defraud people through fake websites or other means. Recently, more than 2,000 real looking fake websites have been detected, where people were being looted of money by luring them with sales. In such a situation, there is a need to be cautious while shopping online. Today we are going to tell you tips to stay safe while online shopping.

Shop only from trusted websites

For online shopping, always go to a trusted website only. Avoid shopping on any new or suspicious looking website due to the lure of links received in messages or attractive offers seen on social media.

Look for the lock icon in the URL

If you have doubts about any website, always check its URL carefully. There will be no spelling mistake in the URL of the original website and a lock icon will also be visible in it. The lock icon means that the site has Secure Sockets Layer encryption, making your data more secure than an unencrypted site.

Do not shop with debit card

Use only mobile payment app or credit card for online shopping. Never shop with debit card. If the debit card gets compromised then cyber criminals will get all the details of your bank account, due to which you will have to suffer huge loss.

Don’t shop on public Wi-Fi

If you are at a cafe, railway station or airport and using public Wi-Fi, then avoid online shopping. The reason for this is that public Wi-Fi has less security and the transactions done through it can be hacked. Therefore, always shop through a secured connection.

These days, cases of cyber fraud are increasing in the country and the world. Scammers are trying to trap people in different ways. In view of this, Reliance Jio has alerted its users. The company has sent a message to its users informing them that cyber criminals are making fake messages and calls in its name. The company has also given some ways to avoid fraud in the message. Let us know about this in detail.

Jio told these methods of protection

In the message sent by Jio, it is written that beware of any fraudulent messages and calls sharing personal information. Let us tell you that nowadays cyber criminals take OTP and other information from people by luring or threatening them, which can cause huge loss.

Avoid downloading third-party apps

In the message, Jio has advised its users to avoid downloading third-party apps. The company said that Jio representatives will never ask you to download third-party apps. In such a situation, if someone asks you to download a third-party app on message or call, then be careful.

Be careful of suspicious links

Jio said that the company never sends such links to customers, which open outside My Jio app or Jio.com. Therefore, be careful of unknown links opening somewhere else.

Do these things when you are down

If someone comes to you posing as a representative of Jio and makes attractive offers, then do not get lured. If you want to get information about any service or offer of the company, then the help of MyJio app can be taken. Jio has said that in case of any doubt, users can search relevant information by logging into My Jio app.

‘Contours of Cybercrime: Persistent and Emerging Risk of Online Financial Frauds and Deepfakes in India’ With the title of Ki Detalyds said in its report that this loss in 2024 is about three times from Rs 7,465 crore in 2023 and about 10 times more than Rs 2,306 crore in 2022.

This year, so much loss is estimated

The Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), established by the Ministry of Home Affairs, estimates that Indians will suffer a loss of Rs 1.2 lakh crore this year. The number of complaints of cyber crime has also risen in recent times. In 2024 alone, about twenty lakh complaints were filed, which was about 15.6 lakhs last year and it is ten times more than the complaints filed in 2019.

According to the NDTV report, the increasing complaints about cybercrime and the damage caused by India show that India’s digital criminals are becoming more clever and smart and their number is increasing in this country of about 290 lakh unemployed people.

Bank related frauds are also getting a lot

During this time, there has been a huge jump in the cases of bank related fraud. According to the report of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the number of such cases has increased by about eight times in the first six months of 2025-26 and the amount of loss during this period has also increased from Rs 2,623 crore to Rs 21,367 crore. Of these, 60 percent fraud cases are related to private sector banks, but the maximum loss of Rs 25,667 crore has been lost to the customers of the government bank.

Digital banking rules: The kind of frauds that are coming out between digital banking becoming increasingly popular, this has become a big concern today. Millions of fraudsters blow money kept in the bank. But now the RBI has taken steps to stop such fraud. Now RBI has drafted such new rules, which will be safe for all to use digital banking. All online services from internet banking to mobile banking which are provided by the bank, this new guidelines of RBI are included.

RBI new rules

Under the new rule, their customers will have to give the bank the option whether they can only watch the bank account online or want the complete service of the transaction. The bank cannot force anyone to use digital banking, if they want to use only debit cards.

The RBI also wants the bank to take their permission before sign up for the customer in the digital service. Every customer will be clearly told how much will be charged for him, if there is a problem then how will it be resolved and every transaction will necessarily get the information about it through e-mail or SMS.

Another important thing is that the bank cannot force a third party products such as investment plans or insurance, nor can it show it on its website without the permission of RBI.

The bank will have to do this work

For strictness on online fraud, all banks will have to use fraud detection tools, so that any kind of suspicious transactions can be closely monitored. They will also have to study the daily expenses of the customers, so that any transaction to be separated from it can be easily identified. These draft rules have been shared by RBI on Monday. The central bank has asked for its suggestions from banks, experts and people on 11 August 2025.

New and unique scams are being seen in India and one of them is e-challan scam, which is spreading rapidly among the vehicle owners. In this, an e -procession is sent in the name of “mparivahan” or “RTO” through WhatsApp or SMS. The information and writing format of writing as soon as you open the message will make you feel absolutely valid, but it is actually a message sent by the scammers, which can completely vacate your bank account.

In this new e-challan scam, a file is also sent along with the text associated with the challan, which should actually be in the PDF format, but it is an APK file, which if you download and install in your phone, then understand that the entire control of your phone can go to the scammer’s hand. Below we are giving you complete information about this scam.

How does this e-challan scam work?

The user receives an ecchaelan message through WhatsApp, in which the name Bakayat M-Parivahan is seen.

The message begins with ‘Vioolation Case’ or such words and then in a long message the challan number, day and date, location, amount of challan, everything is written in such a way that it is as if it is sent by RTO.

It is also written that fill E-Challan with the official website and app of the Transport Department or in the nearest traffic police office.

However, the real scam is not here, but from a file with this message.

A file is sent in this message, which is named E-Challan Report, Parivahan, Challan etc.

This is not a PDF extension, but a file with APK extension.

APK is used for extension apps, which simply means that it is a fake, malicious app, which can be installed in your phone as soon as it is downloaded.

After installing, this fake app can help scammers to access your phone’s SMS, call log and OTP or give it remote access. In this way your private details may be stolen or your bank account may be empty.

Measures to avoid e-challan scam

As soon as such a message comes, first report it and block the number. You can also complain about the number from the Indian Cyber Cell (1930).

Avoid downloading the file found in any kind of SMS or Whatsapp messages.

If there is a link instead of the file, do not forget to tap on it.

Always check or pay your challan on the website of the traffic police of your state or through the Parivahan portal.

Keep Google Play Protect on your Android phone and disable the option to install the app from Unknown sources.

Cyber fraud cases are increasing rapidly in India and more than 11 lakh cases have been registered in 2024 so far. These also include cases of fraud called Digital Arrest Scam, in which criminals try to scare and cheat people by calling themselves an officer of police or other investigating agencies. Especially senior citizens and less familiar people are on their targets. The government has recently informed about the steps taken to prevent such cyber crimes, including blocking thousands of fake WhatsApp and Skype accounts.

In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Sanjay Kumar said that the Cyber Crime Coordination Center (i4C) has so far been 83,668 WhatsApp accounts and 3,962 Skype ID blocks, which were being used in crimes like digital arrest scam. In addition, more than 7.81 lakh SIM cards and 2.08 lakh IMEI numbers have been deactivated after the police reported.

The government, along with telecom companies, is developing a special system to stop and block the activity of calling Indian numbers by international scammers to stop such numbers.

So far, I4C has succeeded in stopping the fraud of more than Rs 4,386 crore in time. Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, which was launched in 2021, has so far filed complaints of more than 13.36 lakh cyber fraud.

The government is also adopting many ways to raise awareness about cyber fraud. Now outgoing calls are being run unkipble collar tunes to protect against cyber fraud, so that people can be alerted to such scams. Apart from this, people are also being told about this through advertisements in newspapers, campaigns on social media and partnership with digital influencers.
