Madhya Pradesh Government is going to change the name of Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV) and divide it into three parts. As soon as this news came to light, Congress got angry at the BJP government and accused it of erasing the history of the state. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has now reacted to this and said that it is not appropriate to remove the name of former Prime Minister and architect of the technological revolution Rajiv Gandhi in this manner.

Digvijay Singh wrote in a post on Facebook, ‘Political differences have their place, but it is not appropriate to remove the name of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of the country and the architect of the technological revolution. I urge Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to keep the name of RGPV as it is. There is a need to respect the history and contribution, not to erase them.

After the High Court’s decision on Bhojshala, Digvijay Singh said – it is not right to target any community.

Digvijay Singh said changing name is not right

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh further wrote, ‘Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi did the historic work of strengthening the foundation of technical and modern education in India. In Madhya Pradesh, our government established ‘Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV)’ in the year 1998 in honor of his contribution, which is today the largest technical university in the state. Changing the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV)’ is not appropriate.

Leader of opposition had also expressed objection

Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Umang Singhar had also objected to this and said that BJP can erase history, but the country can never forget the contribution of Rajiv Gandhi. He had said that changing the name of the university will neither make it better, nor will the youth get jobs, nor will the quality of education improve. Let us tell you that there is a discussion on changing the name of RGPV, which provides degrees in engineering and other subjects to lakhs of students across the country, but no official announcement of the new name has been made. It will be divided into three parts – Bhopal, Jabalpur and Ujjain so that the management of engineering colleges can be better.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh went to CM Mohan Yadav’s house and met him, interesting political picture!

Indian National Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh retired from the House today. In his farewell speech, he appealed to everyone for harmony while mentioning the then Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During this, he also told his future plan through gestures.

He said that – I remember the words of Atal Bihari Vajpayee – ‘Main na thaka hoon, na retiyan hoon. (Neither I am tired, nor retired)’. We will do more work in future.

It is believed that Digvijay Singh will now work hard for the party for the 2028 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. His son Jaivardhan Singh is also an MLA from Raghogarh assembly constituency.

I always tried to follow the path of ideology – Digvijay Singh

Earlier, Digvijay Singh said that people will be surprised that I never had any contact or support from politics during my student life. Circumstances became such that I became the Municipality President at the age of 22. He was unanimously elected MLA at the age of 30, became a state minister at the age of 33, became an MP and became the Chief Minister at the age of 40.

The Congress leader said that but I have always tried to follow the path of my ideology. I never compromised with my ideology. I have never harbored bitterness towards anyone in my political career. There were differences of opinion, and it is natural to have differences of opinion, but I never gave any opportunity to differences of opinion.

The former CM of Madhya Pradesh said that even today I want to make the same request to you. It is possible that there may have been some bitterness in my speech at times and someone may have felt bad, for that I apologize. But I definitely want to assure you that whether it is Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Lok Sabha or this House – my relations have always been good even with those people whose ideology I did not agree with, neither do I nor will I ever. As far as our comrades are concerned, there may be some differences regarding the conduct of work, but I have always supported their ideology in favor of the poor.

I have never been in favor of disruptions- Digvijay Singh

He said that it has been my good fortune that I have been a member of that Lok Sabha, in which leaders like Atal Bihar Vajpayee (then Prime Minister) and Rajiv Gandhi (then Prime Minister) were there. Indira Gandhi (then Prime Minister) got me admitted into Congress and Chandrashekhar (then Prime Minister) was also in Parliament at that time. I have decided on my political journey only after being influenced by all these great leaders. I have never been in favor of disruptions in the House. The foundation of democracy is discussion, and it is the responsibility of the ruling party in the House to dialogue with the opposition and find a solution.

Digvijay Singh said that Ansari Saheb (former Vice President Hamid Ansari) has been the President of this House. He never allowed any bill to be passed without adequate discussion. The way out is always through dialogue, can and should be found. This is the basic spirit of democracy, in which something seems lacking today.

‘I am grateful to the Congress Party that…’

The MP said that I also want to tell you that the way communal bitterness and discord is increasing in the country today, it is not appropriate for the country. This is neither in accordance with our values and culture, nor with democracy, nor with the spirit of the Indian Constitution. I have decided my own path in my political career and for this I am grateful to the Congress Party, which has given me the opportunity to serve in every House.

He said that today on this occasion I express my gratitude to all those members who said good words about me. I assure that in my political career, I will continue to work with the same spirit as Kabir has said – ‘Kabira stands in the market, sabki maange khair, neither friendship with anyone, nor enmity with anyone.’

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Sunday (March 8) dismissed speculations of his retirement from politics and said that he has only requested the party not to make him a candidate for Rajya Sabha for the third time after the end of the current term. Singh said that he will continue to serve the party till his last breath. Speculation about Singh’s future plans began when he shared a video on social media platform ‘X’ on March 5, in which a couple is seen traveling to various places in the country after retirement.

‘I will continue to serve Congress till my last breath’- Digvijay Singh

While sharing the video, Singh had written, ‘My retirement plans? Perhaps. Why not? Jai Siya Ram’ This led to speculations that he was indicating his retirement from active politics. Singh told reporters that he has only requested the Congress leadership that he should not go to the Rajya Sabha after his current tenure ends. He said, ‘Look, this kind of discussion keeps happening and you know where it comes from. The only thing is that I have told my party that after the second term, I do not want to go to Rajya Sabha for the third time.
Congress leader Singh said that this does not mean that he will stop working for the party, but he will continue to serve the Congress till his last breath. He said what responsibility will be given to him will depend on the party leadership, All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Madhya Pradesh Congress.

Demand from Prime Minister to give GI tag to Basmati rice produced

Singh also clarified the situation regarding the video shared on social media. He said it was a video of a retired bank manager couple from Odisha who are traveling across the country and he found the idea interesting, so he shared it. When Digvijay Singh was asked about his announcement of a demonstration for farmers, he said that he has always been active in politics.

Singh has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to give ‘Geographical Indication’ (GITAG) to Basmati rice produced in Madhya Pradesh. He warned that if a decision on the demand was not taken soon, an agitation would be launched.

Senior party leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has reacted to the uproar created by the post of Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh. Shashi Tharoor supported the views of his party colleague Digvijay Singh and said that the organization should be strengthened.

Shashi Tharoor said this during the 140th Foundation Day program of the party organized on Sunday (December 28, 2025) at the Congress Headquarters. During the event, Tharoor was sitting next to Digvijay Singh at the party’s Indira Bhawan headquarters and shared views with the senior leader.

Digvijay Singh had given a statement regarding PM Modi

Digvijay Singh created a political stir on Saturday (December 27, 2025) when he praised the organizational strength of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While sharing an old picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had said how a grassroots worker, learning by sitting at the feet of his leaders, became the Chief Minister and then the Prime Minister.

Digvijay Singh said after the controversy over the statement

During this, he also raised the issue of strengthening the Congress organization at the grassroots level and said that this is very important to compete with the ruling BJP and remove it from power. A day after the controversy over the statement, Digvijay Singh said that he has said whatever he had to say. He said, ‘I have been with the Congress Party for 50 years and I have fought these communal forces in the Assembly, Parliament or organization.’

He claimed, ‘I have fundamental disagreement with him and I oppose his ideology. I have fought against such people and will continue to fight. When asked to comment on his statement given on Saturday (December 27, 2025), he said, ‘Every organization needs strength.’

Shashi Tharoor spoke on Digvijay Singh’s statement

When Shashi Tharoor was asked to comment on this issue, he said, ‘The organization should be strengthened, there is no doubt about it.’ When asked about sitting next to Digvijay Singh and discussing this topic between the two, Tharoor said, ‘We keep talking to each other, we are friends and keep talking to each other.’

He told journalists, ‘Today is the 140th foundation day of Congress. This is a very important occasion for the party. This is the day when we remember our glorious history and the contribution of the party to the country.

Shashi Tharoor posted on X

At the same time, Shashi Tharoor said in a post on social media platform X, ‘Today is the 140th anniversary of the establishment of the Indian National Congress (INC).
He said, ‘From its first convention in the year 1885 till today, the Congress Party has remained a strong cornerstone of the country’s democratic journey and political development. Today this occasion was celebrated with solemnity and mutual harmony at Indira Bhawan.

Other leaders of Congress Party also reacted

Meanwhile, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, ‘I feel that BJP is distorting the essence of Digvijay’s post. We do not need to learn anything from the Sangh, which spreads hatred and takes inspiration from the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi’s murderer (Nathuram) Godse.

Shrinet claimed, ‘We are the Indian National Congress and we fought the freedom struggle against the injustice and exploitation of the British rule and converted it into a mass movement. We do not need to learn anything from anyone, rather others should learn from us.

At the same time, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, ‘There is a lot in Congress and others should learn from Congress only. We have absolutely no need to learn from RSS, because we oppose that ideology. While another leader Rajeev Shukla said, ‘The roots of this party are so deep that they can never be erased.’

Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore has criticized Digvijay Singh’s statement about RSS organization. He even compared Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh with terrorist organization Al Qaeda. Manickam has called it a ‘famous self goal’.

Manickam Tagore said, ‘RSS is an organization which is built on hatred. It spreads hatred. There is nothing to be learned from hatred. Can you learn something from al-Qaeda? Al-Qaeda is an organization of hatred. He hates others. What is there to learn from that organization?’

What did Digvijay Singh say?

Digvijay Singh had shared a black and white photo from the 1990s. In this picture, young Narendra Modi is seen sitting on the ground near senior BJP leader LK Advani at an event in Gujarat. Along with this photo, he wrote, ‘People who once worked at the grassroots level can rise up in the organizational hierarchy and become Chief Ministers and eventually Prime Ministers.’

In this post Digvijay Singh called it the power of organization. He also tagged senior Congress leaders including Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, PM Modi and the official handle of the Congress in the post.

He wrote in his post, ‘I found this picture on Quora site. This is very impressive. How did grassroots volunteers of RSS and workers of Jan Sangh @BJP4India become the Chief Minister of the state and the Prime Minister of the country by sitting on the ground near the feet of the leaders? This is the strength of organization. Hail Siya Ram. @INCIndia @INCMP @kharge @RahulGandhi @priyankagandhi @Jairam_Ramesh @narendramodi.

There is an uproar over this post of Digvijay Singh. While BJP is cornering Congress and Rahul Gandhi after his post, Congress leaders are divided into two factions. On this, Manickam Tagore said that one should learn from an organization like Congress. This organization brought people together. Mahatma Gandhi transformed the Congress Party into a mass movement. Should organizations learn from organizations that spread hate?

Rahul Gandhi with the people: Tagore

He said, ‘Rahul Gandhi is completely with the people. Fighting for the people against the arbitrariness of the government. We should support them. Such a statement does not help Rahul ji’s struggle.

He said, ‘There is nothing to be learned from Godse’s organization except hatred. 140 year old Congress is still young. Fights hatred.

Digvijay Singh’s clarification after controversy

After the controversy over the statement increased, he also gave a clarification. On this he had said that he had praised the organizational structure of RSS, not its ideology. He remains an opponent of RSS and PM Modi.

BJP targeted

BJP also took a dig at Digvijay’s statement. Party national spokesperson CR Kesavan said that these comments have exposed the dictatorial and undemocratic work of the Congress leadership. Will Rahul Gandhi show courage? Will they react to the shocking truth bomb dropped by Digvijay Singh’s tweet? This has completely exposed how the first family of Congress runs the party in a dictatorial manner. How dictatorial and undemocratic is this Congress leadership?

Digvijay Singh clarified on the post

However, Digvijay Singh also gave clarification on the political controversy that arose after the post. Describing himself as an opponent of RSS and the government, he said that I only praised the organization in the post. After the CWC meeting in Delhi, Congress leader Digvijay Singh said, “I have praised the organization. I was, am and will remain a staunch opponent of the RSS and the policies of the Central Government.

What did Navneet Rana say on Uddhav Thackeray’s statement?

On Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s comments, BJP leader Navneet Rana said, “What I can tell you is that people with ill intentions will not understand that BJP has never tried to eliminate anyone. BJP, with the blessings of Balasaheb Thackeray, has always moved forward with Uddhav Thackeray. Even today, our Devendra Fadnavis works under the same blessings, because Balasaheb Thackeray’s guidance was always to work for Hindus, India and patriotism. However, Uddhav Thackeray has abandoned his core ideology and is working in a completely different way today.”

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh had shared an old photo of PM Modi and Lal Krishna Advani on Instagram on Saturday (27 December), in which Narendra Modi is seen sitting on the ground. By sharing this photo, he had praised the organizational power of RSS, due to which now Congress seems to be divided into two groups.

Pawan Kheda enraged by Digvijay’s statement
According to news agency ANI, Congress Media and Publicity Department Chairman Pawan Kheda on Sunday took a dig at Digvijay Singh’s statement and said that there is nothing to learn from the Sangh. Making a scathing attack on the Sangh, Kheda compared the RSS to Nathuram Godse, the Hindutva thinker who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. Congress leader Pawan Kheda said that there is nothing to learn from RSS. What can the infamous organization for Godse teach the organization founded by Gandhi?

Shashi Tharoor in support of Digvijay
On the other hand, when Digvijay Singh praised the organizational strength of RSS, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that I also want our organization to be strong. There should be discipline in our organization. Digvijay Singh himself can speak about this.

What did Sachin Pilot say
Congress leader Sachin Pilot said on Sunday that the opposition party is united, but everyone has the right to express their opinion. He said this after Digvijay Singh’s comments about the organizational ability of RSS, which have spread rumors of discord within the Congress.

According to ANI, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan rejected the rumors of ideological differences within the Congress and said that the Congress party is united. The country needs a strong opposition. Our aim is to strengthen the organization and we have full right to express our views in our party.

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh had shared an old photo of PM Modi and Lal Krishna Advani on Instagram on Saturday (27 December), for which BJP is attacking Rahul Gandhi. Now Digvijay Singh has given clarification regarding this picture.

Talking to news agency ANI regarding photo sharing and RSS, the veteran Congress leader said that I have been saying from the beginning that I am opposed to the ideology of RSS. They neither respect the Constitution nor the laws of the country, and it is an unregistered organization. He further said that I admire his organizational ability.

Digvijay praised RSS
Congress MP Digvijay Singh said that RSS is an organization which is not even registered, yet has become so powerful that the Prime Minister says from the Red Fort that it is the largest NGO in the world. If it is an NGO, then where are your rules and regulations? But I admire his organizational abilities.

What did Digvijay Singh say on the organizational ability of Congress?
On the question of organizational capacity of Congress Party, Digvijay Singh said that all I can say is that there is scope for improvement and there should be scope for improvement in every organization. I have said many times that Congress is a party of movement and should remain so, because the Congress Party is smart in turning any issue into a movement. It does this work well and only then movements take place but we become weak in converting that movement into votes.

When Digvijay Singh was asked that you are such a big leader of the Congress and has been in charge of many states, then why your message is not reaching the Congress leadership, then he replied that if you are asking me then why the matter will not reach.

There has been a stir in Indian politics regarding the alleged atrocities on Hindu and Christian communities in Bangladesh. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has given a big and controversial statement on this issue. After his statement, a round of political rhetoric and reactions has started.

Digvijay Singh said that the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh should not be seen only as an internal problem there, but should be understood as a reaction to the actions being taken against minorities in India.

He said in his statement, “Ever since the government changed in Bangladesh after such a movement, there are all those elements who do politics by spreading religious fanaticism. Those who were opposed by Sheikh Hasina, were opposed by Sheikh Mujib Sahib. This is the situation in our country, here the same fundamentalist forces spreading bigotry are there, the way they are taking action against the minority community, the same kind of reaction is taking place there.”

Condemnation of attacks on minorities

Digvijay Singh in his statement clearly condemned the attacks on Hindu and Christian communities in Bangladesh. He said that such incidents cannot be accepted under any circumstances and are a serious violation of human rights.

He further said, “We strongly condemn what is happening to our Hindu brothers and Christians in Bangladesh.”

Demand for action from Mohammad Yunus

The former Chief Minister also appealed to the current leadership of Bangladesh to take strict action. He said that the government there should take immediate action to control the situation. He said, “The great economist and chief of Bangladesh Mohammad Yunus Saheb should take action.” At present, both the security of minorities in Bangladesh and India’s politics on this issue remain at the center of discussion.

Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijay Singh on Wednesday (26 November) attacked the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. He alleged that a devious attempt was being made to convert democracy into an ‘autocracy’ through the ‘completely flawed process’ of SIR.

He said this while addressing Congress workers in Indore on Constitution Day. Digvijay Singh said in a meeting organized near the statue of Constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at Geeta Bhawan intersection of the city that the process of SIR is ‘completely flawed’.

Digvijay Singh targeted regarding SIR

Taking aim at SIR, Digvijay Singh said, “A devious attempt is being made to change the Constitution of India from democracy to autocracy.” Our voter list is being tampered with. This tampering is not limited to the voter list only. Your citizenship is also being questioned.

Singh further said, “Democracy is in danger in the country today. We have to decide whether there should be dictatorship or democracy in the country?” Giving examples of dictators like Hitler and Mussolini, he said that in ‘autocracy’ only one person rules and the common people are not heard anywhere.

Earlier this responsibility was of the government and the commission – Digvijay Singh

The Rajya Sabha member said that in the SIR that was conducted in the country till 2003, it was the responsibility of the government and the Election Commission to add the name of every eligible citizen to the voter list, but under the current process of SIR, proof of their being voters is being sought from the citizens themselves.

The senior Congress leader raised questions on the Election Commission removing the names of about 65 lakh people from the draft voter list under SIR in Bihar and said, ‘Were these people not citizens of this country?

He further said that there is often talk of infiltrators, but did they (Election Commission) find even a single infiltrator in Bihar? Singh administered oath to Congress workers in the meeting to save the Constitution. On this occasion, another Rajya Sabha member of the party, Vivek Tankha was also present.
