Who is Dinesh Trivedi?

Dinesh Trivedi was born on 4 June 1950. He has been a well-known face of West Bengal politics. He served as MP from Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat from 2009 to 2019. Apart from this, he has also been a member of Rajya Sabha, where he served for two different times. His political journey has been quite interesting. He was associated with Trinamool Congress (TMC) for a long time and through the same party became the Railway Minister in the UPA government at the Centre. Big decision while being Railway Minister

In 2012, when he was the Railway Minister, he had taken a big and controversial decision. He proposed to increase passenger fares in the railway budget. This increase was being made after many years, so that the poor financial condition of the Railways could be improved, but this decision was opposed by his own party. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was against this increase, because she believed that it would put additional burden on the common people. Due to party pressure, Dinesh Trivedi had to resign from his post.
