A big change is being seen in the relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan. After a long time, direct air services between the two countries are going to start again. Bangladesh’s national airline Biman Bangladesh Airlines will start non-stop flights from Dhaka to Karachi from the end of this month.

According to Reuters reports, direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi will start from January 29. In the initial phase, these flights will be operated two days a week, Thursday and Saturday. The plane will take off from Dhaka at 8 pm and reach Karachi at 11 pm. The return flight will depart from Karachi at 12 midnight and reach Dhaka at 4:20 am.

Air connectivity being restored after a decade

Direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan were closed for the last decade. The last time direct flights between the two countries were in 2012. Now, after several months of negotiations between the regulatory agencies, this route is being reopened.

Will the flight pass through Indian airspace?

At present it is not clear whether the flight from Dhaka to Karachi will use Indian airspace or not. The shortest route goes over India, but for this, overflight permission from New Delhi will be required. There has been no official confirmation on this yet.

Steps towards defense cooperation

Along with air services, defense cooperation between the two countries also seems to be intensifying. Pakistan has offered its JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft to Bangladesh. This multi-role fighter jet has been jointly developed by China and Pakistan.

Talks regarding this possible deal have been held between Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar and Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan.
