The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and DGCA on the lack of transparency in air ticket prices. It has been said in the petition that the airlines companies are fixing the fares as per their own wish. Rent is often quite expensive. People are not able to know the reason for this. There should be clear rules regarding ticket price.

Social worker S. Many important questions have been raised in the PIL filed by Lakshminarayanan. It has been said in the petition that private airlines fix air fares unfairly. Many additional charges are imposed by them. There is a need to form a regulatory body to make clear rules in this regard and ensure that those rules are followed.

Supreme Court AERA Notice also issued to

The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta on Monday (November 17, 2025) issued notice to the Central Government and DGCA as well as the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). The main points of the petition pending in the court are:

Opaque system – It has been argued in the petition that airlines suddenly increase fares. Their grievance redressal system is not satisfactory. Pricing done through computer algorithms is completely opaque.

Compulsory Service – Sometimes air travel is necessary to protect the fundamental right to life. In such a situation, air travel has the status of an essential service. The prices of other essential services are controlled, but the pricing of air tickets is largely unregulated.

Lack of regulatory body – It has been said in the petition that DGCA looks after security and other arrangements. At the same time, AERA only controls airport fees. There is no organization to monitor airline fares. In such circumstances, airlines start imposing hidden charges in difficult circumstances or at times of high demand. This leads to a sudden increase in prices.

Excess recovery on baggage – The petitioner has said that private airlines have reduced the free check-in luggage for economy passengers from 25 kg to 15 kg. This is also a ploy to extract more money from the passengers. The government did not stop this

After a brief cross-examination of the petitioner’s lawyer, the court said that the matter is worthy of consideration. After this, the court issued notice on the petition and asked all the parties to file their reply within four weeks.

The process of technical disturbances in the aircraft flying in India does not seem to...

The process of technical disturbances in the aircraft flying in India does not seem to stop. From the year 2021 till now (July 2025), more than 2000 technical flaws from different airlines of the country were reported to DGCA. This information was given by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in response to a question asked in Parliament.

The most shocking thing in these figures is that the highest faults were recorded in the flights of Air India and Air India Express. In the year 2024, more than 250 technical problems came to light in the flights of Air India Group. It is clear from this that the country’s oldest airline needs to pay more attention to its technical system.

Most flaws are fine before flight

Technical flaws i.e. when the plane causes problems such as engine malfunctions, software fault, landing gear disturbances, and system alert during flight. However, DGCA says that most of the flaws were corrected before the flight and there was no compromise on the safety of the passengers.

Now DGCA intensively examines all these flaws and instructs the airlines to take corrective steps.
1. Spot check
2. Night surveillance
3. Flight recording and report check

International agencies started adopting FAA Standards

Apart from this, DGCA has also started adopting the standard of international agencies FAA (US Federal Aviation Agency) to further strengthen security. Along with technical disturbances, the data of complaints of air travelers is also not low. In 2023, DGCA had received more than 5500 complaints, while in 2025 so far (till July 14), around 3900 complaints have been filed.

These complaints are usually associated with delays, trouble refund problems, poor customer service and lack of convenience during flight. DGCA starts the process of solution by transporting these complaints to the airlines, but still there is dissatisfaction among the passengers.

1. Total technical flaws (2021–2025): 2000+
2. Most complaints: Air India+Air India Express
3. Technical flaws in the year 2025: 183
4. 250+ malfunctions in Air India Group flights in 2024
5. Complaints of passengers received in 2023: 5513
6. So far in 2025 (till 14 July): 3925 complaints

It is clear that efforts of the government and DGCA are going on, but both the safety and satisfaction of the passengers will be affected until the airlines improve the ground level.

Dgca new directs: There is a good news for air travelers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given some guidelines related to all airlines passengers on Monday. According to this, whenever you book a ticket for an airline, you will be given complete information about your rights and facilities through SMS or WhatsApp.

So DGCA took this step

According to the DGCA instructions, all airlines will have to ensure that online link of passenger charter available on the website of the Ministry of Civil Aviation will have to be sent through SMS or WhatsApp immediately after ticket booking. This link will contain all the information related to the rights of the passengers to the rules and grievance redressal.

DGCA has also told that this information related to the rights of passengers should be mentioned prominently on the airline website and tickets. Due to this, passengers traveling by air will have to do the details of the rules related to baggage, as well as many other important things will be mentioned.

Let us know that this new directive of DGCA came after reports of many big celebrities like David Warner, Harsha Bhogle as well as the incidents of airlines missing by the general public.

Passengers will get big benefit

This decision for DGCA will benefit the passengers as many times they face many problems like delay or cancellation of flight, losing baggage or damage, boarding dinyl. Many times in these situations, passengers do not know what they have to do. Now after the decision for DGCA, they will know how to work in these conditions. Along with this, they will also be able to resolve their complaints.
