Which Meat Is Better For Protein Intake: Protein is a very important nutrient for our body, but not every protein source is equally beneficial. Especially when it comes to non-veg protein, the question often arises whether chicken or mutton is better. Both are popular, but there is a big difference between them from health point of view. Let us tell you which one is considered beneficial for you.

Mutton has more fat along with protein

In a study published in October 2024, which is mentioned in the National Library of Medicine, the effect of high-fat diet was seen on rats. In this research, 60 albino rats were divided into different groups and their weight, calorie intake, blood report and liver condition were studied. The results revealed that in the rats which were given mutton fat, both calorie intake and weight increased. Apart from this, blood sugar level increased, glucose tolerance deteriorated and triglycerides, cholesterol and LDL levels also increased, while HDL was found to be low. Liver related enzymes also increased, which is a sign of negative effect on the liver. It is clear from these findings that mutton not only provides protein but also a lot of fat, which can be harmful if consumed regularly for a long time.

Chicken Light and Lean Protein

Now let’s talk about chicken. According to the report of Healthline, the amount of calories in chicken depends on its portion. Breast contains the most protein, followed by thighs, wings and drumsticks. Despite this, chicken is not considered a high-calorie meat. According to the National Chicken Council, chicken is a lean protein, meaning it has low fat content. It does not contain carbohydrates and fiber, which makes it a better option for those who have to be careful about their diet. Apart from this, chicken also has less saturated fat and cholesterol, hence it is considered safer for people with heart related problems.

Who is better in terms of health?

If both are compared, it is clear that chicken is a better option than mutton for regular consumption. It is okay if mutton is taken occasionally and in limited quantity, but chicken provides a more balanced and light protein in the daily diet. That means, if health is to be given priority along with protein, then chicken gets priority.
