Diwali sweets: As soon as the festival of Diwali arrives, sweets start getting stocked in the house. It adds sweetness to the festival. But during this sweetness, we often make a mistake that we keep them thinking that we have to eat them tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Whereas we should try to avoid such things. The shelf life of every sweet is different. That is, for how many days does it remain fresh and after how many days can eating it be harmful to health. When you eat sweets kept at home later, it causes food poisoning, stomach upset and health related problems. In such a situation, let us tell you which sweet should be eaten within how many days.

A type of sweet

The first name that comes in this is that of laddu. This is one of the most liked sweets in India. In this, gram flour laddus, boondi laddus and semolina laddus are usually made and their shelf life also depends on what they are made from. As gram flour laddus contain high amount of ghee and sugar, hence they remain good for about 10-12 days, provided they are kept in an airtight container. Whereas Boondi laddus are a little delicate and contain more moisture. Therefore, they remain edible only for about 4 to 5 days.

Barfi

Diwali is becoming such a festival that if you give some other sweet to your relatives or neighbors instead of barfi, they will be shocked. There are many types of barfi like cashew barfi, coconut barfi, milk barfi. Their shelf life varies, for example, if Kaju Katli is kept in the refrigerator, it can last for 7 to 10 days. Coconut spoils quickly, coconut barfi remains fresh only for 3 to 4 days. Barfi made from milk has a short shelf life and does not last more than 2 to 3 days.

sweet dish

Gulab Jamun has its own craze, but its shelf life is very short. It is kept dipped in sweet syrup. Therefore, at room temperature it remains edible for only 1 to 2 days, whereas if kept in the refrigerator, it can be eaten for 4 to 5 days.

Kalakand and Rasgulla

Kalakand is made from milk and khoya, due to which it spoils quickly. If you keep it at normal temperature, it remains edible for only 1 to 2 days. Even if kept in the refrigerator, it remains good for maximum 3 to 4 days. If we talk about Rasgullas, they remain good for only 1 day at room temperature and their shelf life can be 3 to 4 days when kept in the refrigerator.

Jalebi

You get to eat a lot of Jalebi on Diwali. During this time you get to see another version of it, which is known as Imarti. Jalebi remains completely fresh for one day and after that its taste and crispness gets spoiled.

How to keep it fresh?

If you want to preserve them for a longer period, then always keep the sweets in an airtight container. Store sweets containing milk and syrup in the refrigerator. Along with this, if there is more moisture in the sweets then try to eat it within 1 to 2 days. Whereas if you buy from a good store or order it online, it contains information about its shelf life, you should finish it before the expiry date.

The festival of Diwali is considered not only of lights and happiness but also of sweets. A lot of sweets are eaten at this time. However, during this period, packed sweets and deep fried snacks available in the market can become a cause of concern for our health. In such a situation, let us tell you today which sweets and snacks you can use to take care of both taste and health this Diwali.

Boondi laddus from the market or gram flour laddus at home

Boondi laddus available in the market are often made of refined sugar, cheap oil and synthetic colours. The special thing is that 1 kg boondi laddu contains about 700 grams of sugar. In such a situation, experts suggest that instead of buying Bundi laddus from the market, make gram flour laddus at home, which have A.2 Ghee and organic jaggery should be used. These home made laddus are not only delicious but are also considered beneficial for health.

Packaged Soan Papdi or Barfi boxes

On Diwali, every house has a box of Soan Papdi and Barfi, but these contain high amounts of refined sugar. Instead, experts suggest pistachio and rose coconut bites, which can be prepared from puree. These sweets are not only light but also full of nutrition.

Deep Fried Salted or Roasted Nuts and Seed Mix

During festivals, namkeens are served to guests which are often deep fried and loaded with preservatives. Regarding this, experts say that instead of namkeen, you can serve a mixture of roasted nuts and seeds on Diwali. This healthy snack is beneficial for both children and elderly and does not harm health.

Fancy Gift Hampers or Healthy Wellness Baskets

Diwali gifts often include chocolate boxes and packaged sweets. However, it is not beneficial for health. In such a situation, this Diwali you can prepare a healthy wellness basket, which includes blueberries, avocado, dragon fruit and 85 percent dark chocolate. This gift will not only look good but will also be good for health.

The festival of Diwali is full of sweetness and happiness. People feed sweets to each other. But in this happy festival, some people add poison through their actions and this poison shows effect on the health of the people.

In fact, half of the sweets sold in the market during Diwali are fake and adulterated. At some places lime is mixed in them and at some places they are prepared by adding chemicals and people’s health is played with. During the festive season, news of adulteration is shown in newspapers and news every day. In such a situation, you should be alert while taking sweets. Before going to buy sweets, you should also know the difference between real and fake sweets so that you too do not get cheated by going to the market and do not bring home fake and adulterated sweets.

How to identify real and fake sweets?

All the sweets sold in the market look real and tasty from outside. It is a little difficult to identify them at a glance. In such a situation you can use this method. Most of the sweets on Diwali are made from khoya. To identify real or fake, you have to take hot water in a vessel and put sweets in it. If its color turns blue then understand that khoya is fake. Also, if it is soft when touched, then it is genuine, otherwise its rubbery appearance indicates that it is synthetic. Apart from this, you can also test it to identify real and fake. If it dissolves in the mouth after testing and its smell is like milk then it is real, otherwise khoya without smell is fake.

How to identify by looking at the shop?

It is difficult to tell whether a sweet is real or fake by looking at it. But there are definitely some ways by which they can be identified. If any sweet appears to be highly coloured, then try not to buy it because the synthetic colors added to it can be harmful to health. Fake sweets can also be identified by smelling them. If the sweet is made of palm oil or dalda then it will smell different. Also, while taking sweets, always take a small piece in your hand and try to crush it. If there is a lot of oil in it then understand that it is not made from ghee. Apart from this, while buying sweets, one should always taste them to see if there is any sourness or bitter taste in it.
