In his today’s Mann Ki Baat program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the entire countrymen on the occasion of Chhath festival and described it as a symbol of deep unity between culture, nature and society. He said that there is festive joy in the entire country at this time.

The Prime Minister said that recently we all celebrated Diwali and now a large number of people are preparing to celebrate the great festival of Chhath. PM Modi described Chhath festival as a symbol of deep unity between culture, nature and society.

PM Modi said that every section of the society stands together on the ghats of Chhath, which is the most beautiful example of India’s social unity. He gave a message to all the countrymen that no matter which corner of the country or the world you are in, definitely participate in this great festival of Chhath and experience this experience. He bowed to Chhathi Maiya and especially wished the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Purvanchal a very happy Chhath festival.

What did PM Modi say on Indian breed of dogs?

PM Modi said, “About five years ago, I had discussed Indian breed dogs in this program. I had urged the countrymen as well as our security forces to adopt Indian breed dogs, because they adapt more easily to our environment and conditions. BSF and CRPF have increased the number of Indian breed dogs in their squads. For training of dogs BSF’s National Training Center is in Tekanpur, Gwalior. Here, special focus is being given to Rampur Hound of Uttar Pradesh, Mudhol Hound of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

PM Modi further said, “Training manuals for Indian breed dogs have been rewritten to bring out their unique strengths. Indian dogs like Mongreles, Mudhol Hounds, Kombai and Pandicona are being trained at CRPF’s Dog Breeding and training school in Bengaluru. Last year in Lucknow, All India Police Duty Meet was organized. At that time, a dog named Riya had attracted people’s attention. This is a Mudhol Hound which has been trained by BSF. Riya won the first prize here by defeating many foreign breeds.”

Kolkata Police arrested 316 people on Tuesday (October 21, 2025), a day after Diwali, for indecent behavior and violating the law, including burning banned firecrackers. An official said that during the raid on Tuesday, more than 180 kg of banned firecrackers and more than 30 liters of illicit liquor were also seized.

Police arrested 273 people for indecent behavior and 43 for burning banned firecrackers. He said that Kolkata Traffic Police on Tuesday issued challans to 366 people for various crimes.

Total number of cases in the city on the second day of Diwali

Kolkata Police has arrested 153 other people for violating various laws during the celebrations on the second day after Diwali, including inappropriate behavior and releasing banned fireworks. An official gave this information on Thursday (October 23, 2025).

Of the total arrests made on Wednesday, 146 people were arrested for indecent behaviour, while seven people were arrested for bursting banned firecrackers. The officer said no arrests have been made for any gambling-related crime. The police also initiated 383 traffic cases during this period.

Police seized fireworks material

During this operation, police officials also seized 16.95 kg of banned fireworks material and 14.4 liters of illicit liquor. The officer said that among the traffic violation cases, 85 cases are of driving without helmet. Besides, there were 37 cases of pillion riding without helmet, 73 cases of careless driving and 64 cases of drunk driving. There are 124 such cases which were involved in ‘other’ category crimes.

On Diwali night, people burst firecrackers more than the two-hour limit, after which the AQI reached 447 on Tuesday morning. After seeing this, many Bollywood celebs have expressed concern. Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput and actress Vaani Kapoor have expressed their concern by sharing posts on social media. He says that people should not have done this.

Mira Rajput shared a story on her Instagram story on Tuesday. Meera wrote- ‘Why are we still bursting crackers? It’s not okay, even if it’s just to show the kids one time or we’re doing it just once to give them the experience.

He argued that AQI is not just news for the next Instagram story, but the air our children breathe. Vaani Kapoor also expressed concern

Vaani Kapoor also shared a post on her Instagram story. He wrote- As soon as I woke up in the morning, Delhi’s AQI reached 447, which is the highest in the world today. Maybe next year, we can find a way to celebrate without reducing the air we breathe. An AQI between 0 to 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 satisfactory, 101 to 200 moderate, 201 to 300 poor, 301 to 400 very poor and 401 to 500 severe.

US President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indians during Diwali celebrations at the White House, saying that the US and India have a ‘very good relationship’, and Modi wants to see the Russia-Ukraine conflict end. Trump once again claimed that India will not buy much oil from Russia.

At the event held on Tuesday (October 21, 2025), Trump hosted Indian-American business leaders and prominent community figures, lit the traditional lamp in the Oval Office, and extended greetings to India and Indian-Americans.

Addressing the Indian-American community present at the event, he said, ‘I spoke to your Prime Minister today itself. We had a detailed conversation. We talked about business, discussed many issues. He is very interested in this subject. Describing PM Modi as ‘a great person’, Trump said that ‘he has become a good friend of mine over the years.’

President Trump also said that he discussed India-Pakistan relations with Prime Minister Modi. He said, ‘We had talked some time ago that there should be no war with Pakistan. Trade was also discussed. There is no war between India and Pakistan. This is a very good thing.’

Trump has claimed many times that he helped resolve the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan. However, India has consistently clarified that the ceasefire with Pakistan in May was reached through direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the armies of the two countries.

Later during a media interaction, Trump once again claimed that India will not buy ‘too much’ oil from Russia. In response to a question, Trump said that America and India are working together on some excellent agreements. He said, ‘I like the people of India very much… I spoke to Prime Minister Modi today, as I said earlier, we have very good relations… He (Modi) will not buy more oil from Russia. Like me, he also wants this war to end. He wants to see an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump claimed, ‘As you know, they will not buy much oil. They’ve cut it down drastically, and they’re cutting it down even more. America says that India is getting financial assistance for the war because of buying crude oil from Russia.

Relations between America and India had become tense after Trump’s decision to double the duty on Indian goods to 50 percent. Out of this, 25 percent duty was imposed on purchasing oil from Russia. India had described this action of America as ‘unfair, unjust and unreasonable’.

Last week, Trump had said that if India continues to buy oil from Russia, it will have to pay huge duties. He had claimed that he had received assurance from Prime Minister Modi that India would now stop buying oil from Moscow. A few hours after Trump’s claim, India’s response came that it is ‘broadening and diversifying’ the sources of energy supply so that it can meet its needs as per the market conditions.

Eighth Pay Commission Updates: More than one crore government employees and pensioners across the country are eagerly waiting for the Eighth Pay Commission and are keeping a close eye on every development taking place on it. Although, the government had approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission in January 2025, but the official notification has not been issued yet nor has the chairman and members of the commission been appointed.

One crore employees-pensioners waiting

The formation was expected by Diwali, but the Central Government has clarified that intensive discussions are going on with the state governments on this subject. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had told in the Rajya Sabha that the notification regarding the commission is yet to be issued. However, he also said that the final decision on this has not been taken yet, but preparations are going on.

As soon as the notification is issued, the chairman and members of the commission will be appointed. The formal announcement of the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission was made on 16 January 2025. Its objective is to review the pay structure, allowances and pension of central employees. But according to sources, its implementation is not considered possible before 2026.

What is fitment factor?

Fitment factor plays the most important role in the new pay structure, because it directly affects the calculation of basic salary and pension. In the Seventh Pay Commission, the fitment factor was kept at 2.57. At that time the minimum salary was fixed at Rs 18,000 and minimum pension at Rs 9,000, while DA and DR were 58 percent.

If the government increases the fitment factor to 1.92 in the Eighth Pay Commission, then the minimum salary will be Rs 34,560 and the minimum pension will be Rs 17,280. At the same time, if it is increased to 2.08, then the basic salary can reach Rs 37,440 and pension can reach Rs 18,720. Moreover, as soon as the new pay commission comes into effect, DA and DR will automatically become zero (0%).

Diwali Shopping 2025: People did shopping even after the record broker shop on Dhanteras. The situation is that this year the purchasing has reached its all time record. People bought goods worth Rs 5.40 lakh crore (about 65 billion dollars).

According to the data of Confederation of (CAIT), this is the largest business ever in the sector of the country. This is 25 percent more than the record purchase recorded in 2024. CAIT has attributed this to the strong demand from consumers and the recent GST rate cut. A survey by CAIT has revealed that due to reduction in GST, the purchase of consumer goods like confectionery, footwear, home decor has also increased.

People went to shops and did a lot of shopping

About 72 percent of the businessmen included in the survey said that their sales have increased only after the GST was reduced. The crowd of people in shops has increased. Retail traders had about 85 percent share in this entire purchase. Apart from this, the purchasing power of people has also increased as compared to before.

Along with cities, people from rural parts of the country have also contributed about 28 percent to the total business. CAIT said that this huge surge in business has created temporary employment for about five million (50 lakh) people in related sectors like logistics, transport, packaging and delivery. Industry leaders described the Diwali season of 2025 as a big milestone. At the same time, people had made purchases worth Rs 1 lakh crore on the occasion of Dhanteras this year. Gold and silver alone were sold worth more than Rs 60,000 crore, which is considered auspicious to buy on the day of Dhanteras.

Benefit of GST reforms

Let us tell you that in the meeting held on September 3, the GST Council had abolished the tax slabs of 12 percent and 28 percent under indirect tax and recommended only two rates – 5 percent and 18 percent. Due to this, many things of daily use became cheaper. Its objective is to increase demand, which will help in boosting the economy.

Apart from this, under the GST reforms, the government has also kept many products falling in the slabs of 5% and 18% out of the purview of GST. These include UHT milk, chhena-paneer, bread, ready-to-eat roti, ready-to-eat roti paratha and pizza. Apart from this, GST on health and life insurance premium has also been abolished. GST on 33 life saving drugs has also been removed and reduced to zero. These also include medicines for cancer.
