Indian-origin Vikrant Thakur gave a statement in the Adelaide Magistrate Court of Australia in the case of the murder of his wife Supriya Thakur. He said he was not guilty of murder (intentional killing), but pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter (accidental or unintentional killing).

Vikrant Thakur appeared in the court for the second time on January 14. He was accused of murdering his wife Supriya Thakur in December. In the court, after consulting his lawyer, he said, ‘I accept manslaughter, but not murder.’

What happened on the day of the incident?
Police were called to a house in Adelaide’s north on December 21. There the police found 36-year-old Supriya unconscious. Police gave her CPR, but she could not be saved and Supriya died.

What happened in the first hearing?
In the first hearing held on 22 December, Vikrant did not apply for bail. At that time, the prosecution had asked the court to postpone the case for 16 weeks as they were waiting for important evidence like DNA report and post mortem report. Now the next hearing of this case will be in April.
