<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Risks Of Sleeping Too Much Or Too Little:</strong> Sleeping too little or too much at night not only increases fatigue, but it can also rapidly increase the age of many important organs of the body. A new study published in Nature Journal on May 13 has claimed that both less and more sleep can have adverse effects on the brain, heart, lungs and immune system. According to research, the least risk was seen in those people who sleep for about 6.4 to 7.8 hours every day. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Why is sleep important for us?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This study was led by Junhao Wen, Assistant Professor of Radiology at Columbia University. He said that our research shows that both too little and too much sleep can accelerate the aging of almost every organ of the body. From this it becomes clear that good sleep is very important in keeping the brain and the entire body healthy. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>What was discovered in the research?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Researchers used machine learning technology to measure aging. The team prepared 23 biological clocks for 17 different organ systems. These clocks included information related to medical scans, blood tests and body proteins, which determined how fast a person&#8217;s organs were aging compared to his actual age.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Which people age faster?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In this study, health data of about five lakh people of UK Biobank was analyzed. A U-shaped pattern emerged in the research. That means, the speed of aging was found to be higher in both those who slept less than 6 hours daily and those who slept more than 8 hours. The most healthy sleep range was considered to be around 7 hours. Higher risk of depression, anxiety, obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease was seen in people who got less sleep. At the same time, both less and more sleep were also found to be associated with lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma. Apart from this, the risk of stomach problems like acid reflux was also found to increase.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>What are the disadvantages of getting less sleep?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Junhao Wen, sleep is not just a matter related to the brain, but it affects the entire body. He said that sleep duration is related to our entire physiology and its effect is visible on almost every part of the body. The research team also observed an effect on depression in elderly people. The analysis revealed that less sleep can directly increase depression, while more sleep can affect it through changes in brain and body fat. Researchers believe that people who sleep less and more may require different types of health care.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Although the study does not prove that sleep alone is the cause of rapid aging, researchers say that proper sleep habits can be an important part of maintaining good health as we age.</p>
