US President Donald Trump presided over the Board of Peace program in Washington. During this, he announced to spend billions of dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza. During the program, Trump welcomed Paraguay’s President Santiago Pena and jokingly said, ‘It is always good to be young and handsome. This does not mean that we have to like you. I don’t like young, handsome men. I love women. I have no interest in men. Everyone present at the program started laughing at this comment. Let us tell you that 47-year-old Santiago Pena is the youngest President of Paraguay’s democratic era. He is an economist and former finance minister and is running for president as the Colorado Party candidate in August 2023.

US President Trump announced that America will give 10 billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza. He said that the aim of this initiative is to bring stability and peace in the region. According to the White House, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have also promised to give at least $1 billion each. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said a total of more than $6.5 billion in pledges had been received, although it was not made clear whether this included the entire amount from the United States.

The Board of Peace was inaugurated in the former United States Institute of Peace headquarters, which has been redesigned by the Trump administration. The President will have veto power in this body and he can remain its head even after leaving office.

Countries wishing to become permanent members for more than two years will have to contribute $1 billion. This initiative has come after the ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt and Qatar, which was prepared after a long conflict between Israel and Hamas. The next phase of the plan also includes a provision for reduction of weapons in Hamas.
