Israel launched a major air attack on Gaza City on Thursday (9 October) night. The attack took place when Israel’s cabinet was meeting to vote on US President Donald Trump’s ‘Gaza Peace Plan’, which aims to permanently end the Gaza war.

According to American media CNN, the security agency controlled by Hamas said that due to this attack in Sabra area of ​​Gaza City, a multi-storey building collapsed, due to which about 40 people were buried under the debris. The Israeli Army (IDF) confirmed the attack and said that the target was Hamas terrorists.

IDF statement- ‘Attack on Hamas hideout’

Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said that four bodies have been recovered so far, while dozens of people are still trapped under the debris. Meanwhile, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, informed that 30 Palestinians have been killed since Wednesday evening. According to the IDF statement, “We targeted Hamas terrorists who were located close to Israeli soldiers and posed an immediate threat to them.”

According to AFP, a team of about 200 American soldiers will be deployed to monitor the ceasefire in Gaza. This step has been taken to make the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas successful and to assist in the release process of hostages.

Trump announced ceasefire agreement

Just hours before the attack, US President Donald Trump had announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed on the first phase of ceasefire. According to him, “As soon as the Israeli government approves this agreement, the war will end immediately.” Trump said that this agreement will also pave the way for the release of the hostages and expressed hope that all the hostages will be released in 1-2 days.

President Trump described this agreement as a historic and important step, which will bring major progress towards ending the two-year-long conflict. He said that this agreement is the first phase of his 20-point peace plan, under which Hamas will release all the hostages and Israel will withdraw its forces to the agreed limit.

Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Netanyahu on the agreement to release all the hostages.

A tweet issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi expressed his good wishes to Prime Minister Netanyahu on the agreement for the release of all hostages.”

Hamas said on Friday that he agrees to some points of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan to end the Gaza war. The organization has given a positive indication on the release of the hostages and the administration of the Gaza strip to an independent Palestinian body. However, he made it clear that he wants to interact further on many other conditions of the plan.

According to a report by Reuters, Hamas gave his official response to Trump’s 20-Autial plan. The US President had given Hamas a deadline to accept or reject the proposal by Sunday. Trump did not clarify whether any amendment or interaction in the terms of the proposal is possible or not, while Hamas wants to discuss it.

Silence on leaving weapons

Significantly, Hamas did not tell in this statement whether he is ready to accept the condition of disarmament. Israel and America have been demanding Hamas to leave weapons for a long time, but the organization has been rejecting it continuously.

Hamas said in his statement, “We appreciate Arabia, Islamic and International Efforts, including US President Donald Trump’s efforts, seeking to end the war on Gaza, exchange prisoners and get admission to humanitarian aid.” Hamas further said that he according to the terms of the trump “all the occupied prisoners- whether they are alive or agree to release their remains, ensure the required ground conditions.”

The organization also said that it is ready to start a detailed talks through intermediaries immediately. Apart from this, he also obeyed the administration of the Gaza strip to hand over an independent Palestinian body or group of technical experts, which should be the support of Palestinian national consent and Arabian-Islamic countries.

White House did not respond

The plan of US President Donald Trump immediately includes the Ceasefire, the occupation of Hamas, instead of the release of hostages, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, the return of the Israeli army in a phased manner from Gaza, healing of Hamas and the installation of a temporary government under the supervision of an international body are included.
