Scientists of Mia University, Japan have taken a revolutionary step over Down syndrome. The research team of this university has succeeded in removing extra 21st chromosomes of human cells through CRISPR-CAS9 technology. This is the same chromosome whose additional appearance produces a genetic condition like Down syndrome. This experiment is currently done only at lab level, but its results are shocking.

General behavior shown in cells

The research team has used allele specific editing technology, in which only extra chromosome has been removed. While the remaining two normal chromosomes remain safe. After this change affected cells began to behave like normal cells. She started growing rapidly and she was also seen to have organic stress work.

Distance in reaching real life from laboratory
This research is considered a big success at the laboratory level, but it is not easy to apply in real life. Experts say that it is still a serious challenge to reach gene editing tools inside the body in a safe and accurate manner. Some experts say that this research is not just a medical miracle but can also change the cognitive and developmental future of children who suffer from Down syndrome. However, the use of this technology in embryonic cells of fetus or early stage can lead to many risks. Such as unwanted genetic changes, large detections or socks like socks.

Questions cannot be ignored
Many moral debates have also been given rise in the possibility of this technology to succeed. If a person’s ability to change the genetic conditions before birth comes to us, should this do so or it will be opposed to the values of human diversity and acceptance. Regarding this, some experts say that even though it raises hope from the technical medical point of view. But we should not forget that people with Down syndrome are today an active part of society who are contributing to education, work and social responsibilities. They cannot be defined by just their situation.

Both science and sensation are balanced
The balance between scientist progress and human compassion is very important. It is believed that while deciding the direction of this technology, not only scientific efficiency but also an inclusive and sensitive moral dialogue. So that this technique can become a means of accepting it instead of challenging the human system.
